  1. I believe you'll have to go to a higher authority than TW in terms of selling our soul to ESPN3. It's a MAC deal, isn't it? I'm glad to see some games airing on TWCSC. ESPN3 is great for the diehards, but I doubt it gets many viewers other than that. For what it's worth, Duke and North Carolina play next on Weds. Feb 18.
  2. An over aggressive auto correct? They've been informed. We'll see if they correct it on-line.
  3. Great "Staff Report" on the game today in the ABJ. Who the hell is Willie Alvarez? Good grief. http://ohio.com/sports/zips/men-s-basketball-ohio-83-akron-82-zips-blow-double-digit-lead-fall-to-bobcats-1.564437
  4. I paid the $6.95 for BG feed too and complained to them about the quality from the beginning. They said it was a BG issue since the feed came from the school. I replied that was not a satisfactory answer since I was paying them, Sidearm Sports, not BG for the feed. I also pointed out I had found out I could have been watching the same feed for free on the MAC Digital network (which I did for a short time on my phone). Regardless, for $6.95 I should get a better feed. It was watchable, but thank goodness for the play by play. They eventually agreed to give me a refund. We'll see if that happens. The initial charge hasn't even come through yet. In regard missing the action because of replays, I think what we are watching on some of the feeds is the video playing on the video screens/scoreboard in the building. I seem to recall Buffalo doing the same thing. Most schools are still patchworking various feeds together instead of really coordinating them.
  5. For $6.95 the feed should be better than it is. Looks more like the free feeds from the MAC.
  6. Agreed. The uniforms were great and contributed to a fitting tribute to Coach Peters. I would be nice, though, if the Zips could find a way to have at least one uniform combination with blue and gold. The silver editions have run their course with me.
  7. I was wondering if McMahan struggled in FT shooting as much in high school, but I couldn't find her stats. She's at 46% now. Her shooting form looks fine, but they don't go in. Unfortunately, Barilla hasn't been much better. Gotta have a PG that can make FTs.
  8. Great comeback for the win! Did anyone else notice the attendance figure for the game? 3,117 at Savage. (They average 3,604). We only had 3,313 at the JAR that night for the BGSU game. As far as the great foul shooting that I've touted/enjoyed in recent years, that seems to have disappeared. The men are shooting better at 68.5% versus 66.1%. The women only made 10 of 18 in the last 2 1/2 minutes, including missing the front end of 2 1-and-1's and 2 with 12 seconds left that would have at least increased the lead to 3. They need to get that figured out soon or it will come back to bite them in future games, especially on the road.
  9. What I like even better is that he is improving his mid range and inside scoring. Yeah, he was 5 for 7 on 3's last night but he was also 9 for 14 from inside the arc the previous two games.
  10. Maybe not. They are trending downward. 51 for 78 (65.3%) in the three game homestand (without Tree). Back to the charity stripe for more practice.
  11. Although I'm not a big fan of the black alternate unis, I get it that others find it appealing. I like the chrome helmets, not the whites. At least the football team has a uniform set that has blue and gold in it. The men's basketball team does not have one uniform combination with blue and gold. Time to get rid of the silver editions.
  12. I thought this was a pretty tough, but fair, article by Elton Alexander in the PD yesterday. A little surprised he took such a direct stance considering he covers the entire MAC, too. What are your thoughts? http://www.cleveland.com/sports/college/index.ssf/2014/11/northern_illinois_vs_bowling_g.html#incart_river
  13. I gotta say I've thoroughly enjoyed the women's basketball games the past few years. No, they don't have the athletic ability the men do, but they play more within their abilities (which are significant) and have many fewer "knucklehead" plays trying to make a play or shot they've only made in their dreams. It's a different game played below the rim, but still entertaining. It's also great to see players make their free throws. The men could learn a bit from them on that. I also see players shooting and making mid-range jumpers, something missing greatly from most men's (all NCAA) games. Those shots count too. I wish more people would come to the games and see what they are missing. The marketing department could work a little harder to promote them too. I saw very little effort last year for what we pretty much knew was going to be their best team ever.
  14. I think the "announcement" was poorly handled/coordinated by all involved. The vote of the Board of Trustees was allowed to be the first mention of an agreement by Summit County, the city of Akron, the University and the Development Finance Authority to build an arena with financing from a countywide sales tax from which the great majority of the funds will go to something else. Seems to me with all these people involved there would have been a combined announcement to explain the entire plan. Many people will probably now only see this as the U of Akron arena project no matter what. Hopefully they will pull things together soon and do a better job of communicating.
  15. Looks like the Houston job is not an issue. http://www.myfoxhouston.com/story/25301684/florida-state-assistant-hughey-takes-over-uh-womens-basketball
  16. I really wish UA had made the effort to make this an overnight trip. A one day 12 hour bus trip is a bit much.
  17. Houser actually tore her ACL on Feb 2 against Michigan State and Purdue went on to win their next 6 in a row before losing to Iowa in the 2nd round of the conference tournament. Too bad for the kid, but the team seems to have adjusted. Considering they are getting to play a home game as a #4 seed, I'll take whatever breaks we can get.
  18. Here's the info from ODOT about the construction project that wil close part of I-77 this weekend. It looks like you MIGHT even be able to get on 21 off of 77 near Brecksville, bypass the inevitable 480/77 backup and then pick up 77 again when 21 ends. I've contacted the athletic department to see if any official recommendations are being issued by UA, The MAC or The Q. http://www.dot.state.oh.us/districts/D12/construction/I77BridgeDeckReplacement/Pages/default.aspx
  19. I'm a season ticket holder for both the men and the women and am always impressed with how much better the women shoot free throws than the men. 75% this year vs versus 61% for the men. Maybe they need to get a little contest going between the two teams to get the men to step it up.
  20. I love the new location of the band. I sit in section B and can finally hear the person next to me when we talk. That being said, I do wonder why it was moved.
  21. Not going to win any game shooting 28%.
