WMU beat SIUE today 1-0, which clinches hosting of the MAC tournament for them.

If the Zips win out, they should easily be a top-16 seeded team in the NCAAs.

Zips now #14 in RPI. As noted by TennZip, the Pitt & WVU games are crucial. If the Zips can get at least one win out of those two, and beat the teams they should beat, they will be in good shape to get a seed for the NCAAs ...

Great win by the Zips in SB! Akron fan contingent was small: me & and a U.A. alum who lives in Los Angeles (& who was also at the 2 previous Zips @ Gauchos games), and family of Niko De Vera (dad from Portland & aunts & cousins from Los Angeles & San Diego). We needed you there Z.I.P.! From my vantage point, Zips dominated play most of the match. All goals (except the PK) were scored at the far end from where we were sitting, so I did not get a good look at any of them Zips look to me like a team that could put together a strong season. Hello fellow Zips fans! I am an Akron native (OK actually Mogadore) who has been living in Santa Barbara for the past 30+ years. I am generally just a casual soccer fan, but I was thrilled to be in the stands in Harder Stadium in 2010 when the Zips won it all! I've also attended all the UCSB-Akron games that have been played out here since then. And I will be back there tomorrow night in my Zips T-shirt to cheer them on! There is usually a small group of Akron fans, & I hope to meet up with them. Crowd will be small because UCSB classes have not started yet. The UCSB team has a good local non-student following though, so the place won't be empty. Both teams need the win! Should be a good game.

But apparently the Zips have never won in Bloomington?! Time for that to change!

Yes, absolutely. Getting to the College Cup puts the stamp of approval on Embick: he's no longer just the guy who took over after Caleb Porter, he's the guy who took his team to the Final Four. This raises the stature of Akron in the eyes of every potential recruit.

Sad end to what turned out to be a great season. Not many predicted Akron in the College Cup at the start of the year; it's a huge accomplishment. So congrats to all Zips players and coaches!

From a poster at the bigsoccer forum: Akron 2 - 1 final. The 2nd half was an absolute clinic by Akron. Could of been 4 or 5. Only great goalkeeping and the crossbar got in the way of a similar score to the Rutgers game. This team is very dangerous and one that can be lifting the trophy in 2 weeks. It's amazing how well a team plays when they get the proper seed by the NCAA committee #respect
