  1. PCCC got a young up and comer to come to Ravenna! LOL.
  2. The first thing I would do with a candidate is put him in a room with 2 or 3 of the most noncommunicative kids on the team and watch how he interacts with the kids. If he can't communicate with kids he won't be able to recruit or motivate them. You need a guy who can sit in a kid's living room with the kid and his mom and convince them the kid should come to Akron, Ohio
  3. Very well stated. In very simple terms, Arth was not bringing in kids that could collectively compete on the MAC level. I did not expect them to be world beaters in their first or second years but they should not be getting manhandled regularly in the third year of his tenure. Watching the games it was clear that the Zips were just not as talented as their opponents, not just less experienced. Add to that the basic technique breakdowns we saw weekly and you had a near irreparable mess. I want to watch a UA game where I don't yell to my wife "look at this kid, he's doing what I taught 6 year old flag football players not to do!" Character does not have to equal less talented.
  4. Article on the interim head coach- https://www.beaconjournal.com/story/sports/2021/11/04/meet-akron-zips-interim-football-coach-oscar-rodriguez-jr/6283859001/
  5. My position is very simple. I want the good players to stay and the bad players to leave.
  6. Recruiting coordinator. That's clearly his strength. I remember people complaining with Groce that we were getting another school's reject. YSU's reject? It certainly could not have trended downward. Does that include the TV audience? That's the only way I could see the fans totaling 7000.
  7. Use the balance of the season as player auditions for next year. While doing so, make a pitch for them staying so we don't have to start all over. I still think the timing is odd, but if it is going to happen I prefer it to be too early than too late like it was last time leaving the Zips with limited options. Also, spare me the cost of a search firm. I get why they do it (CYA), but just go find your guy.
  8. I think if the standard would have been "bowl probable" they could have canned him during spring practices.

  10. I don't have a problem with axing him but I don't quite get the timing.
  11. Ride it out for the rest of the season and see how it goes. No reason to do anything now as there's no one to turn to. See how the rest of the season plays out and if poorly, can him and move the process quickly so that they don't end up with the leftovers.
  12. Congratulations. The previous record for the farthest anyone has made it into an Arth/Thomas post-game presser was 6:57.
  13. Umm, ya know.
  14. The Zips head to Kalamazoo on Tuesday the 9th to face the 5-3 Broncos. The Broncos have beaten Pitt, PCCC, Buffalo, San Jose State and Illinois State while losing to Toledo, Ball State and Michigan. What's better than Tuesday night football in Kalamazoo?
  15. Later than usual.
  16. 2 QBs again tonight?
  17. I messed up as I was busy scouring the internet for someone scalping some tickets for tonight's game.
  18. I am a veritable cesspool of information.
  19. That is what I meant and I also meant to insert Western. I went back and fixed.
  20. Ball State athletics teams adopted the nickname Cardinals in 1927. Prior to that, the school's teams were known as the Hoosieroons. Before being purchased by the Ball brothers of Ball jar fame, the school was known as the Normal College, Normal School and the Normal Institute.
  21. I'm all for Buffalo travelling regularly to Murfreesboro.
  22. Maybe they should have a directional conference- Eastern (Mich), Central (Mich), Western (Mich), Northern (Ill), Western (Ky.) and Middle (Tenn)!
  23. Good call. I am a little more enthused about WKU. I remember the Zips having some good games with those MTSU squads in the early 2010's.
  24. I think the MAC is looking at all of the movement of schools into other conferences and the gobbling up of schools by competing conferences and thinks that there's safety in numbers. Competitively, MTSU basketball has fallen off of the face of the earth and football is pretty average. MTSU was a very good mid-major in basketball for a good stretch under Kermit Davis but the program has completely fallen apart since he left for Ole Miss. Western Kentucky has had some nice basketball teams and has been pretty average in football. Western would give the MAC two teams in towns named Bowling Green.
