  1. It would certainly be an about face to go from the guy who repeatedly touted character to a guy (Petrino) with none. On top of his college "incidents" he bailed on the Atlanta Falcons in mid-season. You know, we could hire Petrino and when Groce moves to a bigger job we could bring in Rick Pittino. Pittino and Petrino. Wow, I think I'm onto something here!
  2. I left with a little over 4 minutes left and they weren't in, but when I got to the car they were in so I suspect it happened at about 4 minutes.
  3. Yes, we move up from NAIA to D2!
  4. If only it wasn't 1461 days ago.
  5. Just a few more observations. I thought Groce should have gotten the end of the bench in a little sooner. I'd hate to see a valuable rotation player go down in the last 10 minutes of a 50 point win. Bandaogo is going to be very good in time and really help this team against bigger lineups. I like that they're figuring out how to have him and Freeman on the court together at times. he really needs to learn to go up strong. He too often throws up weak shots while falling away. I'm pleased to see Castaneda finding his shot. He was a decent 3 point shooter at USF and the team will need that with a lack of established shooters other than Trimble. as for Trimble, it was good to see some finally start to fall.
  6. The 1-1 Wheeling Cardinals come in to play the Zips Thursday night. So far the Cardinals have beaten East Stroudsburg 72-70 and lost to Winston-Salem 66-65. 6-1 grad student Jordan Reid leads the Cards at 18.5 ppg. 6-5 sophomore forward Andrew Taylor leads rebounding at 10 per game while kicking in 10 points per contest. The Cardinals participate in the Mountain East Conference with our previous OOC opponent Concord. Cleveland area Notre Dame College is also in the DII Mountain East.
  7. Point Park was pretty awful. Not sure what we can take from that one other than an opportunity to practice against some different faces. Encouraged by Castaneda's shooting. Also impressed with MIkhal Dawson's intensity and leadership.
  8. Freeman with a big game. Time for the end of the bench to come in.
  9. I understand she's been sick and is just now coming back up to speed. Whew.
  10. A t-shirt toss. NWAkron just breathed a sigh of relief.
  11. Nice to see the 3 falling for Castaneda. They're going to need that this year.
  12. Student section almost entirely full at 6:30! WOW.
  13. Seems like a common scheduling approach for teams of UA's ilk. Play a good team or two then a bunch of little sisters to come up to speed. PCCC gets Point Park in 2 weeks. Point Park basketball is in the River States Conference which is NAIA.
  14. Not in again today. I hope she's not experiencing knee issues again. That poor girl's had enough with two ACL's in her short life.
  15. Yep, no need to rehash it, especially when we can always debate Bowden's departure ad nauseam.
  16. Moving that student section may also be an indicator of fewer reserved ticket sales. Curious to see how they move those season ticket holders. It will also free up seats around me in the nosebleeds on the north end where they we putting the students.
  17. That's the kind of thing I mean when I say that the Zips players don't do the simple things I taught 6-year-old fly football players. I taught those children as safeties not to let anybody get behind them. I also taught them to stay at home on defense. Repeatedly, I see zips players break those very simple rules that I could get 6-year-olds to follow. That's the result of bad coaching.
  18. We're a day from being back in the JAR. As much as we complain about that barn of an arena, it'll be nice to be back. NWAkron's t-shirt cannon PTSD should be kicking in any minute!
  19. With the way these two are playing on defense the under/over may be higher on the football game than it will be for the basketball game in 2 months!
  20. Looks like it really helped. They held CMU to 54 points!
  21. I think alcohol is more of a necessity at Infocision.
  22. I like Ali's developing game but at the same time I would prefer that he avoid the crazy all over the floor dribbling display a couple of possessions before he hit the 3. That possession and the possession where Freeman got stuck with the ball were painful at an important point in the game.
  23. I am with RowdyZip in that I am hoping that this game gives us an opportunity to see some of the guys towards the end of the bench.
  24. Good call on Trimble. The entire team has a defensive intensity we haven't seen before. We've had individual strong defenders like Banks and Tribble but this team is far more solid from a team defense perspective and its fun to see. The depth will also help keep that intensity up through an entire game. We can expect to see a lot more full court pressure and trapping in the half court.
