  1. OK, since the decision has been made to again pummel the cold rotting carcass of this poor damn horse, the odds of a MAC team getting an at large bid are slim. That being said, the chance of a MAC team getting an at-large bid that has luminaries like Gardner Webb on the schedule is 0%. I'd rather have that slim chance rather than none, even if the team has to play for $60K. it's like playing the same damn par 3 golf course every day. At some point, you have to try something new and better. Oh, I hear they are now looking into joining the AFC North or the Premier League.
  2. Easy there sport, I never said we were.
  3. If anyone legitimately believes that our university has any chance of joining the ACC, I want what they're having. If anyone in the athletic department is wasting time on it, I think I want my money back. As for the attitude that we're too damn proud to take $60K for a game, you might want to look into a lifetime NIT pass as the Bethune Cookman's of the world and 21 wins over patsies will get you no respect nationally or from any selection committee.
  4. I think he was just that deep on the depth chart. I don't think he was in the discussion to play at OSU this year. He just wasn't a top 10 team talent. However, that does not mean he can't be very productive at the MAC level. His high school highlight videos are certainly indicative that there's some talent there.
  5. I am hoping Warren Ball can help make us our shortcomings at RB. He's been buried on the bench at OSU, but being behind guys like Hyde and Elliott is certainly not an indictment of his talent.
  6. Very impressed by the depth and quality of our receivers. Have just the opposite impression of out DB's, though a couple were decent.
  7. My quick observations from the time I was there: 1) Gladney will eventually start at WR, if his attitude stays in check. 2) Chapman is really pressing Woodson at QB. 3) The o-line is still coming together. 4) If UA could guaranty that all games would be played on 70 degree sunny days, they'd sell a lot of tickets.
  8. Dear Coach Boals- Welcome to Stony Brook- http://nypost.com/2016/04/11/stony-brook-basketball-player-accused-of-breaking-into-car-stealing-5k-tax-return/ Aaaaaaah, the joys of being a college coach.
  9. On a completely unrelated topic, the newest E:60 on EPSN tomorrow night will be about our old Zip fan favorite Bobby Hurley.
  10. Good for Boals. Too often, jobs come open due to a failure by the prior staff, but just the opposite is true here. Hope he can build on the foundation of his predecessor.
  11. In today's economy at UA and Akron as a whole, no one is going to finance a new arena. Once you come to that conclusion, the actual physical plant (the physical box of the building) of the JAR is okay. They need to dump that idiotic track and glass barrier between the levels, do away with that gap, improve the quality of the reserved seating and change the pitch of all of the seating to improve the sight lines. There's no reason you shouldn't be able to see the entire floor from every seat unless the doofus in front of you is standing. Bringing those upper level fans closer to the floor would also help the home team atmosphere. Nice graphics in the floor and adding color to some bleachers does nothing for the fan experience.
  12. The year we think RPI is unimportant the committee will decide it is important. That's the problem with the committee- any member is free to use whatever measure they want, whether it's RPI, Kenpom, pompom, coin flip or magic 8 ball.
  13. This tournament again shows that the story EVERY YEAR is about the small school underdogs, the Arkansas Little Rocks, Steven F, Austins, Middle Tennessees and the like. That's what draws the interest of the common fans. Maybe, just maybe, the NCAA will wake up some day and realize that mid-majors spur interest and extend the reach of the game.
  14. People seem to forget or not realize that scheduling a game requires more than one team wanting it.
  15. As long as JT3 is coaching Georgetown, the Hoyas will be beatable!
  16. Anyone who hasn't suffered through seasons of Coleman Crawford and Dan Hipsher doesn't get a vote on Dambrot. I am shocked at the lack of perspective of some of the posters and their inability to fathom the fact that a change has two probable outcomes- a young coach who does well and leaves you in two years putting you back at ground zero or a mediocre one that stays too long (see Rob Senderoff).
  17. I'll miss all three of the seniors. Reggie and Jake always played hard and their shooting will be hard to replace. Pat looked disinterested and occasionally confused this season. When he showed up at UA I thought we really had something as his footwork for a big man was outstanding, but there just never seemed to be any improvement.
  18. I was screaming at the TV and wanted the Zips to win as much as anybody, but holy smokes, the area law enforcement agencies better start watching bridges for jumpers today given the tone on here. It was a damn NIT game, a game in a tournament to determine 69th place in NCAA basketball. There's a reason some kids get recruited to UA and some kids get recruited to OSU, and that came through last night in crunch time when "bigger, faster, stronger" prevails. It's time to thank the seniors for their four years and move on with hopes that the program hasn't plateaued and can get more of the "bigger, stronger, faster" kids.
  19. Hmmmmmmm, the guys calling the game who make their living watching college basketball think KD's a pretty good coach.
  20. I It means they played their last game in a t-shirt, jeans and flip flops.
  21. KD's comments were essentially that he likes to run the offense through Big Dog, not unlike he did through LBJ. I was an analogy to one aspect of the offense, not a comparison of the players. Also, one thing this forum lacks is the a setting to put obnoxious posters on ignore.
  22. Kwan seems like a great kid, but I wish he would have the revelation that we have enough three point shooters but not enough big men and adjust his game accordingly. If he'd direct his energies to rebounding and defense, he could really make a difference in a game like this where we are at a size and athleticism disadvantage.
  23. I'd like to see traditionally good mid-majors on the schedule- Creighton, Butler, Wichita State and the like. Throw in some traditional area powers like a UC, Dayton or Xavier. You can get some of the bigger schools out of early season tournaments.
  24. Check out John Feinstein's CBS Minute on the plight of the mid-majors. Pretty succinct and insightful. http://www1.play.it/audio/cbs-sports-minute/5-21-jim-rome-cbs-sports-minute-on-jr-smith/
  25. Gotta love a forum where KD's auditioning for the OSU job while others suggest he should be fired. Unbelievable. The amusing thing is that both of those positions are wildly wrong. KD's going nowhere until he retires from Ohio Polytechnic.
