While I agree, I do want to point out that at Notre Dame Charlie Weis named him assistant head coach of offense, which is basically as stupid as it sounds. He was also Notre Dame's recruiting coordinator. So I think Akron took a "if he's good enough for Notre Dame he's good enough for us" approach. I mean, I can't possibly imagine what else they were thinking. I guess they also ignored what a clown show Notre Dame was. Anyway, after the extreme disappointment of the VCU game, at least we've all returned to our senses and realized how lucky we are to have Coach Dambrot. With Kest, Bowden, and others, we're pretty spoiled right now.

This may be the greatest example of why all-star games should be ignored. If someone judges Zeke based on one all-star game rather than 4 years of game file, they're idiots. An athletic 7 footer than has a knack for blocking shots and is still filling out his frame... and yet I have no idea if he'll be drafted or not. But Desagana Diop was a lottery pick because of "upside". The NBA seems insane at times.

I guess I'll clarify. I don't want him to leave either, and like anyone, I hope he learns from the situation(s) and moves on. But if you're repeatedly in a situation like that, you're partly responsible. Pointing the finger at the university and crying "unfair" doesn't help anyone. I'm confident Dambrot and his staff will do the best they can with each player though. I think for the future of the program that will be more important than anything either player can do on the court next season.

Here we go, more whining for the way Q was treated. Have him go somewhere else then if he was treated so badly.

Ha. Actually, Fox isn't too bad, but I'm always amazed at how much sports radio guys don't know. Joe Dunn and the guys on 1350 are an exception. But most of the 92.3 and 850 guys really don't know many facts when it comes to the teams they cover. They're always having to have things looked up for them. Bruce Hooley used to cover OSU, but he seems clueless on even their recent history. Every one of their meetings about show topics has to end with, "let's just talk about the Browns' QB situation some more."

Someone listens to Bull and Fox?

They have? Kosar and ???

On the other hand, he tweeted this a few days ago: Not jealous that people are at the beach right now, my life the next 4 years will be at the beach!! #Coastal As much as I/we believe the program is moving in the right direction, it's still 3 wins in 3 years, and the three wins aren't impressive. So right now, Coastal isn't a bad choice in comparison to Akron. Hopefully that's not the case soon.

Yes, though it's still so early. He's not even had his day in court yet, so rejoining the team is still way down the road for him. Coach Dambrot has had a few good quotes on this, but I like this the best: “I am going to stick behind him. It is my obligation to stick behind him and get him through his difficult times. Nobody knows better than me that people make mistakes. If anybody can forgive him, it’s going to be me.” If he did come back, can you imagine the chants at OU? He deserves that punishment.

Marla Ridenour on Future of Zips
legendofzippy replied to Blue & Gold's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
I'll end my part in this discussion by saying we've all seen the police reports. If it happens once, ok, maybe there's something fishy. Twice? If you put yourself in that situation twice, it's on you, and you have a problem. -

So says the expert that doesn't know when the victim was in school (not sure why that even matters). Or as you refer to her, "alleged victim". If you're cool with abuse that's fine, it's clear from your posts. I'm not ok with what either guy did, but hopefully they can learn and move one. -
Transfer DL from Florida State

Agree. Let's stay more positive. Football is actually moving in a positive direction so let's enjoy the ride. -
Marla Ridenour on Future of Zips
legendofzippy replied to Blue & Gold's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
Is everyone really so naive as to think he was suspended for a year for "pushing away"? Harney and Treadwell were listed as witnesses, so they would have stuck up for him if that's all it was. If it was just a push, he wouldn't have been suspended. If you've watched Quincy play, you really wouldn't question the allegation. Hopefully he learned from it and can move forward a better person. I'll phrase it a different way - how many people on this board have done pot, and how many have hit a woman? Again, I'm not making excuses for Alex, but in general people seem ready to forgive Quincy and bury Alex. We'll see what happens before next season. Hopefully they both can move forward. -

I hope both are back, but they need to do everything right. Playing for the Zips - or any team - is a privilege and they need to earn that back. Not sure why Diggs is getting off easier on this board right now, other than the timing of Alex's mistake being far worse. As far as I'm concerned, hitting a woman is far worse than doing/dealing pot. -
Dambrot open to Q home game and major schedule upgrade
legendofzippy replied to xu9697's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
I think this is a great idea. A chance for the Zips to play a game against a top team in an NBA arena? That's the kind of thing that draws recruits, and I would absolutely be there. We're not getting a new facility in the short-run, so why not utilize the Q? -
Obviously GP1 nailed it. It was fun to watch him develop, and hopefully we get to continue to watch him progress in the NBA. Please Cavs, please... When the guy was on his game, it was a blast. The MAC Championship against Can't probably stands out to me the most. There's just nothing better than seeing shots blocked, or guys storm to the hoop, then back off when they saw him standing there. If that type of intimidation doesn't get you going, you're not a basketball fan. He'll be missed, but I'm glad he decided to be a Zip.

No, they aren't satisfied, but someone pointed out the bottom line in another thread: VCU's budget for basketball is a million dollars greater than Akron's. People are being far too negative over one game, though I'll grant you it was a curb-stomping. A top 25 ranking, 19 game win streak, regular season and tournament champs.... those are huge accomplishments for a program our size! I think just because OU made a run to the sweet 16 last year that some people felt entitled to Akron doing the same. A strong backcourt is key in the tournament, and ours was suspended or sick. Let's stop dwelling on the negatives and keep pushing this program forward.
-
Never be surprised by the stupidity of your fellow man. Last night was hurtful - I feel like I was in a bar fight just watching it - but let's not forget the Zips lost to VCU in OT last year, so let's not act like the program is suddenly a mess. We ran into a buzzsaw and were undermanned, so it was a whupping. No one expected it, but this was still a very good team. Step back from the ledge. Losing Zeke stinks, but lots of talent coming back next year.
-
Maybe an odd analogy, but this reminds me of when - in football - Florida whipped OSU in the national championship game. Great season, ending in a blowout where you wondered what team you were watching. Ultimately, these memories fade, and Akron still gets regular season and tournament champ banners, plus defensive POY and COY in the MAC, and maybe more honors for Dambrot to come. So last night hurt, but ask any other MAC fan if they'd take our season.
-
This can't possibly be true. My brain can't comprehend something more arrogant than OU fan/grad. I'm glad they lost last night. Their fans thought they were going to the big dance and now they're nowhere. Good riddance.
-
I'll take a late game over an early afternoon game.
-
My daughter and I got on the court afterward (with many others) and all the players were great. They were very patient in posing for pictures, signing autographs, etc., while still celebrating with each other. Great group of kids. On the complete opposite end of the spectrum: OU fans. We were in a section that was mostly green, and they started booing Betancourt as soon as he went down. They continued to boo the whole time he was down, then got louder when he got up. Keep it classy OU!

News Interview - Zeke Marshall
legendofzippy replied to FromdaBurgh's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
They haven't put a new name in the rafter's for men in quite some time. Zeke should be the next 44 to go up there. Not sure what the waiting period is. He will be missed. Come on Cavs, if you're taking a chance on Oden, take one on Zeke!
