Anyone with legal experience have thoughts on the June 24th trial date? Are there typically delays with this sort of thing, or will this actually be wrapped up - one way or the other - this summer? Even if he's not on the team anymore, it's a distraction I'd like to see gone before the season starts.

Coaching is a fraternity. Everyone wants to win, but that doesn't mean you have to hate the other guy.
-
I'd say that's different though. In MLB Cleveland simply can't afford to match offers from Yankees, Boston, LA, etc. I don't care who's in their front office, it's not happening. In the NBA you can match that offer, and technically even offer more. Plus a lot of the stars the Lakers and Celtics have acquired over the years have been the result of trades. Saying FA's don't want to come to Cleveland is just an excuse. FA's don't want to sign with a bad franchise.
-
In defense of the Indians, I think they've done pretty well considering it's a stacked deck in MLB. A market like Cleveland is never going to keep guys like CC or Lee. Even all the star players from the 90's team eventually left for money. The Cavs and Browns have no excuses. Those leagues have structures that do allow any market to compete. The Browns have been an utter disaster since the return and really don't deserve fan support. The Cavs got lucky with the LeBron and Kyrie lotteries, but it's hard to find any other good moves. I'd say Gilbert is trying, he's just not succeeding. You don't have to be a frontrunner, but continually following franchises that are inept doesn't make sense either.

And facts. Don't forget the facts.

Never? Meyer Hoke

Yes.

No offense, but I fail to see how Mike Brown is a "big splash". Unless it's like a giant turd making a "big splash" in a toilet bowl.

Second round of conference expansion is beginning.

Yeah I don't get the market argument either. The Northeast Ohio market is way too varied for us to claim it's an Akron market. First off, most everyone is an Ohio State fan, and football trumps every sport. Newsflash - we suck at football. Then if you're an Akron fan, it's likely because you went there. Even at that, Can't has a claim to the same area. Plus look at all the OU alums in the area, and there are plenty of Miami alums too. We're a MAC school and the MAC is actually doing pretty well for a small conference. Why leave? Marshall was much higher profile as a top MAC school than what they are now. -
I don't know, couldn't that scare a recruit off? He might hear "I might not be here in a few years".
-
It makes sense. I think he's a wildcard. You can't teach that sort of athleticism, and you never know how he'll improve over the summer. Plus a good ball handler. I still see him being part of the rotation, but we'll see.

On 1350 yesterday, Nyles mentioned he's been playing the 2 in JUCO. So aside from Tree and Pat, I'm not sure any players can really be assigned to a position on this team, which is awesome. Imagine if you're the other coach - how do you gameplan for a team with so many possible lineups?
-
Yes, wild speculation. I mean, Calipari is listed. To lure LeBron back, I think Phil or Coach K fit the bill better. Not that I think either is likely, but I'd expect Gilbert to toss some money around given the team's potential.

The thing I liked about last season was how many lineups Dambrot could put on the floor. It appears he'll have that luxury again this season. So many of these guys can handle multiple positions. I'd say PG is the concern though. You'd expect Betancourt to be a little better and Nyles Evans is a great sign, but both still need to prove it. The nice thing with Alex is that he was a proven 3 point threat.
-
1350 is supposed to have Nyles on for an interview today around 5:15. So nice to have a sports show that focuses on local teams.

Dambrot at the HOF Luncheon Club

He played VCU a month after that WVU game. 1 assist, 4 TO's. Come on, he's 6' 6". Teams like VCU gobble up guys that size trying to play the point. Stick him at forward with Tree, Harney and Forsythe next year and no one in the MAC can challenge that front line. I mean seriously, our only concern there should be if Diggs and Tree kill someone fighting for rebounds. -
They were saying today at 5:00. A perfect way to spoil the end of a work day.

Hell yes. Content aggregation is a joke, and CNN giving them validity is insane. Of course this is the same network jamming a Jodi Arias trial no one give a sh*t about down your throat 24/7. I still stick to SI writers anyway.

As for safer helmets, I'm not sure there's much more you can do. You have a large mass, moving quickly, then suddenly jarring to a halt. If you keep the helmet its current size, you've reached a practical limit on what you can do. In the 90's there was some crackdown on the large facemasks, but they seem to be back. What Ray Lewis was wearing last season was absurd.

Will Zeke be Drafted by an NBA Team?
legendofzippy replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
See, that's another example of how confusing the NBA is. You see Ryan Hollins aimlessly wandering around the court, providing zero benefit to his team, and you think to yourself - Zeke is better than that! But then you look at mock drafts, and it's hard to see Zeke edging out any of those guys. But it's the NBA, you really don't have to get drafted to wind up on a roster anymore. -
Will Zeke be Drafted by an NBA Team?

I'm voting No, but predicting NBA GM's is almost impossible. With the development league and European options, I have to think we'll be able to continue to follow him somewhere. -
Well this is a message board so replying seems argumentative, but that's not what I'm trying to do. I agree with you, but there are some on this board that are spoiled, and some of the comments I heard in the stands during basketball this year were unreal. Even in wins there are those constantly griping about stuff. Yes, Zeke is the tallest guy on the floor. No, that doesn't mean he can grab every rebound. But you can't just be a blind fan either, and none of us should be. The football team definitely needs to be held accountable for the mess Ianello left. We can blame him all we want, but in the end the university hired him. Also - again, don't take this the wrong way - but the university didn't force you to buy those tickets. It's a tough call for fans - you want to support the program, but you also don't want to support a bad product.
-
I agree - Siva seemed to be everywhere. Not a huge problem with Hancock getting it though. Two great teams, but that officiating was brutal! I think Louisville wins no matter what, but the goaltending that wasn't called in the first half and the Trey Burke block in the second will have to haunt Michigan fans for years. In the end though, Louisville was just too quick and too active. Great game to watch.
-
I think you took the word spoiled in the wrong context. I meant it as a compliment - we're lucky to have coaches to be excited about. Also, if you're talking reparations, maybe that's a little spoiled? I'm not trying to be argumentative here. Just saying we've had a ton of success recently across all sports, but we have a lot to be excited about too. When people go negative, I wonder if they've really tried following the program the past few decades.
-
I agree that would be a factor, but in the end, we all have someone we report to. Telling your superiors "I'm hiring my friend" just doesn't cut it. You have to point to something. He did have a high-ranking position at arguably the highest-profile team in the nation (even if they have been most awful the past two decades), so that had to be factored in. It wouldn't be the first time Akron - or many other schools - were fooled by someone with "Notre Dame" on their resume.
