  1. It's time to just promote George and quit wasting time, money and effort on ANOTHER outsider who knows NOTHING about Akron and/or Northeast Ohio. Time to have "One of our own" !!!!!!!
  2. Isn't Dr. Scarborough really questioning the Board of Trustees decision regarding the stadium? I am under the impression, an AD and President take a plan, budget, etc. to the Board of Trustees and THEY are the decision makers. If I am wrong, please let me know.
  3. Not good enough to play at any of those places according to Rittman fans.
  4. Things are CRAZY in Rittman. Dennis and sister start school in Orrville Monday due to threats. This has gotten REALLY out of hand.
  5. For those of you who like college football, golf, gambling, beers and more, I have a trip for you. There are some slots open yet. Click here for information. We will be "teaming" up with the ZFund trip for Friday evening and Saturday tailgating and game. Stag only.
  6. Nor has Akron Mayor Don Plusquellic, who said Monday he is disappointed that UA officials are studying the future arena without input from other government agencies or the business community. From my understanding, these points: The university has been in conversations, many of them, with the city and Mayor Don. The citys position was, U of A and the city partner, U of A raise the money, city owsn the facility and lease it back to U of A. WTH. What sense does that make Mr. Mayor. The mayor wants a hockey/multi purpose facility. Studys show, with hockey, basketball fans sit too far back from the court, something KD or no one at the university wants. Before TW had the study done, TW went and had a personal meeting with Mayor Don and letting him know what he was doing so that the mayor didn't hear it from anyone else or from the media. Not really sure what the Don means about being disappointed that UA is moving forward on this without input. There have been years of conversations. Yes, the mayor may be disappointed because things are not going HIS way, but stating there has been no input from other government agencies or the business community with the UA is a little far fetched.
  7. I can say with a fact Dan peters doesn't hold back. I watched him litteraly send the Serb to the locker room during a game in valpo.
  8. I am understanding it will be June 11th at The Quary in Canton.
  9. I was just talking with Jack's mother, and of course he has no problem with Ashland, Walsh or Wayne State all after him, but Bowling Green has been on him and last evening Miami of Ohio made a visit to his home. He is visiting Miami of Ohio this weekend. Apparently there is now some OU interest also.
  10. I think this is a valid concern. It would be something I would clear up with him during an interview and let him know a return to the past staff will not happen. Nobody from the old staff gets a return trip. Why not? We might as well just bring back all of the pieces of a previous failed era of Akron football Why not just bring back Winters' old boss again as HC ? He's actually been very consistently successful as a D-II coach. So, if just having any kind of success at the D-II level is a great qualifier to some people on this board to move someone up 2 levels to D-1A, then shouldn't Lee be at the top of the list right now? And he's an "Akron Area Guy" too. Sounds to me like the perfect candidate !! Some great indications right here on this board of how much some people are really interested in setting our sights high for the future of Akron football. With all due respect, the coaches from the LO era have done pretty well for themselves and many in the football world seem to think pretty highly of them. Everyones JT surely thought so. 11. Tressel announced Luke Fickell as his replacement this fall for the first 5 games. http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/news...-ohiost-tressel
  12. lol please don't tell me that's a reference! When trojam or extends(spelliing?)sponsors trhis name for a million dollars you will understand. Lol
  13. Tressel story work of a "prankster"? Link The plot thickens.
  14. Hello GP1 and Merry Chistmas to you. I do agree with skip-zip. The NCAA can never lose sight that these are STUDENT ATHLETES and their reason to be in college. However, they may be able to come up with some "policy" that provides the scholarship athletes the opportunity to get jobs throughout the year. This is something that may be provided through the individual Athletic Departments and their Compliance Departments, to keep the businesses above board(as much as possible). I can still guarantee you that the 10% larger schools will have businesses standing in line to be able to provide these "services/jobs" in exchange for their "perks" and ANOTHER recruiting point the other 90% of athletic program coaches will have to overcome. It is tough enough to recruit in todays current athletic world. Now throw in "We can guarantee you a job paying $XX.00, etc, etc. vs. Mid majors and others who are just trying to survive.
  15. There have been alot of posts about paying athletes, giving cars, allowing athletes to sell items, pay for autographs, etc. A couple of things that need to be understood is that: 1. We are talking about "higher education" and that these are STUDENT athletes. The primary word is STUDENT and that these athletes are in school for an education. Yes, athletics is VERY much a part of "higher education" and their reason to be at that university, but they are still here for an education (in most cases). 2. 90% of universities lose money in athletics as shown in previous NCAA reports. Link 1 Link 2 Adding payment for student athletes will only make it worse for every university. Coaches and administrative salaries as well as expenses are at crazy levels. Programs for the 90% of the universities are "choked" as it is and as difficult it is already to recruit, paying student athletes will only add "fuel to the fire" in the recruiting war. Can you imagine adding "paying athletes" at Akron? People complain about $20.00 for a football ticket as it is, can't get 4,000 on a regular basis for basketball. Someone has to pay for all of this, the fans. 3. As a previous "car dealer" for Akron athletics, it was like "pulling teeth" assisting Akron in trying to get area car dealers to participate in the "car coach" program and provide vehicles for use by the coaches and/or administration. There are dealers that are standing in line to give cars to the Suckeyes and the other 10% of university athletics. Providing cars to athletes in exchange for autograph sessions, etc. only distances the 90% of athletic programs from the others in obaining quality student athletes. 4. Athletes needing spending money etc. I know there are some instances when athletes come from a less than usual financial situation. Well that happens for thousands of other students throughout the world that are getting an education as well. As some have stated, there are student loans, Pell Grants, etc. that can help in these instances. So what a "student athlete" needs to have a few student loans to get them through college. There are hundreds of thousands of students doing this everyday!!!!!!!! I see on a regular basis where a young person purchasing a vehicle and has $80-$100K of student loans upon graduation (including those from a poor situation) If a student athlete needs this type of situation, so be it, it sure will NOT be in the $80-$100K range like many students. AFTER they are done with school or their playing time, they can THEN sell their stuff to pay off their loans. 5. Letting athletes get jobs opens up another can of worms. Guaranteed a "higher level" athlete getting a job from a donor etc. would receive excessive compensation vs others in their position as well as different working conditions, hours, etc. Oh well, just my 2 cents. Merry Christmas to everyone.
  16. Suckeye players are being investigated for getting tattoos in exchange for autographs. Suspensions are possible for the bowl game or maybe next season based on how long the investigation takes and if there are any violations found. This could prove a little positive for the Zips next fall. Link
  17. To be fair, the game wasn't their fault. I was there as well and that game their cable provider dropped the ball. As an owner, you should check, double check and triple check to be sure that the game (as advertised) was being shown and when the game was not going to be show, regardless who "dropped the ball", you, as an owner should at least address the "patrons" that were there and apologize for the misfortune vs NOT say anything at all as if it was just "another" night.
  18. Went to TH for a basketball game last year that was "advertised" they would have, and after getting there along with a packed house, never got to see it because they weren't able to get it. I would go to which one "gaurantees" the game being shown. The Union sounds like a great place if the University would promote it.
  19. Have to take advantage of these opportunities!!!
  20. Do you still stand by what you said? There are two possible reasons we haven't won a game yet. The first is that the players are in rebellion and actively working to screw things up on the field. The second is that the coach has removed those players and the remaining players aren't being put in a position to succeed. So either Ianello can't control his players or he's a terrible game-day coach. Which is it? And as for this: Ianello makes $350k. That's a significant jump, not "a few dollars more". And if he really wanted to be anything more than a position coach, he would have to leave OSU at some point. Why not go to the only other school he ever coached at? And if you don't think that Tressel and company couldn't walk anywhere in Akron or Cleveland and not get the same treatment as in Columbus then you're kidding yourself. Fickell could come here as head coach, simply say he trained under Tressel to recruits' parents and get any recruit he wanted. Zach the Zip, I must admit, I believed that anyone should be given a chance after only a few games. However, at this point, I am definitely not sure. From hearing different things from a NUMBER of people, RI has his hands full "keeping his team" more than getting a win. If there is any kind of exodus after this season, then there is a real problem. As far as Luke, being a coach under Tressel is not going to make recruits wanting to come. I know Luke personally and he is a great guy, coach, family man and would be great for Akron. I still don't know if anyone truly knows if he "wanted" to come here, however, recruits inside of Ohio "might" be impressed about being under Tressel but outside of Ohio, I don't really think recruits or anyone else really cares about OSU or Tressel. Be it RI, LF or the next coach, they will definitely have their work cut out for the mess the program is currently in.

  23. Flood Proenza's office with letters, emails, and phonecalls. In fact, someone should organize a Zipsnation. "Email the President" day to voice as a solid block of fans our dissatisfaction and refusal to accept the mediocrity of that entire operation over in the JAR. Yes, this forum is looked at and from my previous post this is NOT going to be fixed overnite. ACCEPT it or find something else to do this fall. JD left us and coach I bare and this will not be COMPlETELY fixed this year
