OU Sucks. What are they good at, seriously. They have one good football year and one good basketball year and claim to be this force. Still ZERO national championships as a school.
-
A lot of time, the public info on coaches salaries isn't correct, because they get paid with non university dollars. Base pay is the only thing that needs to be listed publically. For instance Jim Tressel's base pay is only $600,000 on public record, but we all know he made well more than that. http://buckeyeinstitute.org/higher-ed Go there and type in Tressel

OK, I had to go back and look at your history of posts on ZN.o. You have at least as many posts on ZN.o related to YSU and Youngstown as to the Zips and Akron. Also, this is not the first thread where you've accused others of "attacking" you for being a "realist." If you focused more on the Zips and Akron as opposed to YSU and Youngstown, and lost the attitude of others "attacking" you for being a "realist," you would fit right in as a Zips fan. Ohh so now I have to act a certain way? I brought up YSU and ytown per the discussion that was going on. I.E. I was born there and found a job after there. I grew up with Tressel's kids. I stay in contact with them today. I know what I'm talking about.

And if you think for a second that Tressel cares you lack any intelligence at all. He doesn't want to coach here. He has internal happiness. He has a nice house, great family, more money than he knows what to do with. He's happy. Spell check police**** Someone put an e ahead of an a. Let's go back and re-read every post he's ever made and go through his posting with a fine tooth comb because I have that kind of time on my hand!

Where's the emoticon of me throwing stones at Indians06? Dude, Tressel should be happy to get the chance to redeem himself at a MUCH smaller school/program now that he is a disgrace. I was ready to embrace him like all of us would have, but in no small measure because I assumed that UA would be a great step-down opportunity for him to redeem himself while building our program for bigger and better things while also retooling his reputation. It would have been a wonderful two-fer. You need to embrace the possibility of bigger and better. We would not have rated Tressel before he disgraced the OSucks program, but at this point he is tainted. He probably is happy and honored that Akron wants him. But he doesn't want to coach here, or anywhere else. If you really believe he is a disgrace, then why would you want that person as the head coach of your school? I wouldn't. I have more pride than that. But let's face it, he's not a disgrace. A lot of people in the state of Ohio still adore him. He wanted two things in his career. One, to be a college football head coach. YSU gave him that opportunity. And second, to be head coach at Ohio State. He turned down numerous jobs that paid millions more than YSU while he was there to wait for OSU. He turned down NFL interviews to stay at OSU. That's all he wanted. And I know first hand Tressel doesn't feel disgraced at all. He has a wonderful family who are all doing their own successful things in life. He and his wife make philanthropic donations to all sorts of causes near and dear to them. His old players love him and stick up for him. He has 5 national titles. He's seen thousands of his players and staff members go on and do great things with their life. He's happy with his life. I think we all strive to have the internal happiness that Tressel has. For you to say he's a disgrace or how dear he turn down Akron is pathetic!

Yeah, that John Heisman was a slouch. Ohh yea pulling out 1800's Buchtel stats. NICE!
-
Realism? You're the one masquerading as an Akron fan. Go back to the YSU boards. My degree from Akron says other wise! I'll keep posting here because I'm a Zip.
-
If you report anything that borders on realism you get called a troll. Sweet.
-
Here comes all the cheerleaders who criticize others who are realistic. I think it's great you all support Akron like I do and want them to be #1. But let's face it, never in the history of Akron football have we had a coach who is top 5 in the country. So if you want to throw stones at me, mind you I have football and basketball season tickets and donate as much as I can without taking food off the table, you can. But I support Akron. I'm just not going to be childish at this. We are what we are. We have never been a consistently good college football program. I want it to change, but it's going to change with a young firey head coach. Like Jim Tressel did for YSU. It's not going to change with a guy who ran one of the best college football programs in the country and has 5 national titles. We deserve a guy like Tressel did for YSU. But we don't deserve a big name like him. I said all along to go after a Stoops if we're trying to make a big splash. That would be doable, see Ohio University, and he would fit perfectly with out school. Knows NE Ohio Turned Zona around Known name with recruits Yes I know he may end of on OSU's staff, but you could get this guy for 500-750K. I think there's enough donors who would splurge that much cash to get him. Tressel was never an option. Sorry I was realistic and didn't have these pipe dreams.
-
We should get Wolford from YSU! lol jk
-
What's the point about getting excited about something that never had a chance at happening? It's not about deserving Tressel. It's about it being impossible to get that kind of name at Akron. If you want to waste your time going after coaches that don't want to come here fine. I'm glad Tressel is an adviser on this. Do we deserve a Tressel? NO! The MAC is at the bottom of FBS football. We pay $300,000 for our coach where the average in the MAC is $478,000. The national average is $1.38 million. We're also coming off of back to back 1-11 seasons. So no, we don't deserve Tressel, who while at OSU was one of the top 5 coaches in the entire country.
-
Wow is that what we've become? So cynical that we wish ill on coaches who turn down coaching our football team that accumulated 2 wins in 2 years. I think your post is very sad and am glad you are in the minority. Tressel doesn't need redemption, nor does he want to coach in the MAC. The man has 5 national titles and the state of Ohio respects him very much. What everyone here doesn't know is that Tressel married into one of the richest families in Ytown. As I said, money isn't an option. As I said, and everyone criticized me. TRESSEL WON'T COACH HERE!

No reporter is trying to get views on their story. I think every reporter hopes they get the story right 100% of the time. He didn't name his source???? None of you who claim all these insane offers are made or he's going to accept have named your sources. I've talked to people close with the Watson family. They all said he doesn't want the Akron job. The media is reporting the same thing. You all are acting like your 10 years old. If you're going to be mad at someone be mad at Tressel. Don't say the media and us are trying to prevent this from happening. I want the best, realistic, football coach for Akron. Dreaming about something that won't happen, then blaming others for it not happening is insane! GROW UP!
-
Who's working to prevent it from happening?

+1 The Canton report has too many flaws to crush my hopes. Plus, Tressel was on campus Saturday, 100% positive on it. I don't get your point about him being on campus? He was at an Ohio University game earlier this year. And he was at a Can't State game too. He was also at a Youngstown State game. He was also on the campus of Ohio State on Friday. He has been on many campuses in the state of Ohio. And knowing the man that Jim is, I'm sure he wasn't of Robs turf the day he got fired. That's not who he is.
-
I guess all the people I've talked to who know Jim personally are wrong. As are the sources the Canton Rep has. I guess facebook and twitter know more than us. Canton Rep did not take down the story. http://www.cantonrep.com/community/blog/co...-coach-at-Akron IDK who your inside sources are from within the department, but if they are really sources who are in the know, they would not be leaking any of this out I'm sure. Esp since they know Tressel to Akron would be a long shot and end with disappointment if you didn't get the big name.
-
Stop listening to rumors and start facing the facts. Every credible person I know and every credible media person I've read has said Jim Tressel to Akron 0%. It's not going to happen!
-
No one is ruining anything. Only people are making themselves look stupid by trying to discredit anyone who gives a reason why Tressel isn't coming here. It's all the hating the messenger thing. Tressel can get a masters from here but that doesn't make him a zip. That doesn't bring him the pride and loyalty his undergrad does. Doesn't make Akron home over Youngstown State and Ohio State where he spent over a decade at each winning national titles. I heard someone say it would be a win-win by Tressel coming here. How would that be a win win for him? He prides himself on staying loyal to his assistants and always staying in touch. Tressel hated going against Dantonio at Michigan State. Do you really think Tressel is going to enjoy making Akron a MAC powerhouse while bringing down his former assistant Darrell Hazell? Plus his long time friend Jon Heacock, brother of Jim Heacock, is the D-Cord there. And why would he donate millions to YSU to build a new indoor facility to help with recruiting. Then sit down with kids YSU and UA are recruiting and explain why his name is on the building in Ytown? The main point I'm making and that people are telling me is, he's not going to burn his friendships at Can't and Youngstown for a program he has realitvily no ties with?
-
This whole thing is getting quite asinine. Are you quoting the goofball from twitter who said Akron offered 6 million over 4 years? I have some swampland in Arizona to sell you if that's where you're coming up with info. People are making up BS, broadcasting it on Twitter/Fb on purpose, and then laughing. This includes some of our own. Time to stop monitoring and sit back and wait to see what happens like I did with our last homerun. twitter has never been a source for me, you honestly think there wasn't an offer? I know 100% for sure that wasn't the offer. Is Info going to pay the $900k + still owed to Rob?? Then an additional million a year to Tressel??? Where are these millions of dollars coming from that we didn't have before? Because I have news, more ticket sales and sponsorship and a few donors isn't enough to cover all of this.
-
Canton Repository just posted that they spoke with Tressel's people and that he has been at his home all day in columbus and that he is not taking a coaching job at Akron. Maybe not, but the moron that wrote the article doesn't even know that Infocision Stadium has better meeting rooms then most of campus and they hold high profile events there all the time. The guy is not a moron. He's a very good, reliable, writer.

We're counting WZIP as media now? SMH

Stoops is more than likely going to be on OSU's staff. I am skeptical about it happening, but lets not act like its impossible. Didnt Akron hire Faust right after he was fired from Notre Dame? We CAN get the big boys. Stoops won't come here either. I'm just saying he would be more likely than Tressel. And Gerry Faust is a horrible example. He was a life long high school coach who failed miserably at Notre Dame. No one else wanted him. He had no other college experience. He had nowhere to go.
-
Akron has a big advantage over UCLA because JT wouldn't be able to include any years at UCLA with the years spent at YSU and tOSU in his state retirement plan. This could cut his retirement check by hundreds of dollars. Not true, Tressel has already hit his 30 year pension in the state system. That being said, they average it off of your 3 best years. So coaching at Akron would not affect his pension at all. Plus you can buy years if you worked at a public institution out of state. So his two years at Syracuse count towards the overall 30 years. Simply put, Tressel won't lose a dime in pension money by choosing Akron over an out of state school. Akron nor another school in Ohio, can match his 3 best year total at Ohio State. FYI he won't be going to UCLA either.

Can we all grow up a little bit. We're posting info from peoples (fans) facebook and twitter feeds and taking it as truth? We want the guy desperately. I'd love to have Urban Meyer here too. But let's face it, it's not going to happen. You don't go from Jim Tressel to Paul Winters. If we really have all this money to throw around the next logical choice would be a Mike Stoops then so on and so on. It would not be and never has been Jim Tressel, then Winters then OC for blah blah... Let's put this into proportion. Tressel isn't coming here!
-
It won't be Tressel. However needs to be someone with strong NE Ohio ties.
