  1. Paul Winters will never be head coach here. You don't go from a D-I assistant at a big time college football program to D-II head coach. That's not a logical progression.
  2. My inside sources say Tressel is 0% likely to come to Akron. And these people know the Watson/Tressel family very well. If we're putting all our faith in getting Tressel, we're going to be extremely disappointed.
  3. Just saying. You all said the kids too slow to play at Akron and the MAC. Offers to Minn, Toledo, Miami and Akron show he's not.
  4. What hard working team do they support that doesn't win? No one's expecting them to got 13-0 and win the MAC. They don't have to a pull a soccer team and win national titles, but like the 03-05 teams people came to see them. Yes they won more than they lost, but I wouldn't exactly call a winner, except for 05 of course.
  5. I've seen highly touted recruiting classes come to Akron with the end result being kids leaving, a new coaching staff and an empty stadium. The kids we bring in are talented, but Akron will never win unless they want to. That team in 05 worked their ass off and never gave up. Not in the MAC title game, not in the Motor City bowl. If these kids want to come in and work hard and get 20,000+ at Info then they are more than capable of doing it. If they want to go through the motions, not listen, leave when things get tough, then they will play in front of no one. It's their choice. I have faith this will be the class that turns it around, but then again I've been saying that for 10 years. One MAC championship every decade isn't going to cut it. We all see how this community supports a team that works hard. (Notice how I didn't say a winner).
  6. I love the Indians, but there is no way I would spew your board with lies like that. My source was laughing his ass off reading Indian06's posts boldly predicting those WGH kids to Akron. Who is your source? I guarantee you he wouldn't laugh at me to my face. If he's in Warren I would love for him meet me there. But I doubt he was tough enough to attend WGH, probably a JFK kid.
  7. You can't say if YSU and Akron lined up on the football field each year we would win the majority of the time. I want us to be clearly better than YSU year in and year out. And right now, I don't think any objective college football fan can clearly say we're better than them. And this coming from someone who hates YSU. I always say, the only good thing to come out of Youngstown State if my wife. She's great  YSU got the better end on that one.
  8. Changed his mind? He was behind YSU all the way as I reported from my source the other day. Ian Folmar was accepted to Akron according to my source who gave me this: http://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?stor...100000020696099 Bottom line, the days of YSU losing recruits to the MAC's of the world are coming to an end. We lost out on 3 locally, Trent Toothman to Ball State, AJ Fox to Akron, and Landon Smith to Ohio. The first two were never offered by YSU and the third one de-committed from YSU after some issues with the staff. I hate to say it but... UNCLE You are right.
  9. I just hope one day we can get the talent to be better than YSU annually.
  10. That one hurt. Must have changed his mind at the end. Least it's the only player who choose YSU over Akron. Wasn't always that way.
  11. I've seen his closing speed in games. Made Massillion look like a middle school.
  12. His scouting Ohio page lists Miami and Akron as well. http://www.scoutingohio.com/index.php/view...mes%40yahoo.com This kid's the real deal. After seeing his game vs. Massillon it shows what he can be. You see a lot of people run for 300 yards against garbage teams, but I can only remember one Maurice Clarett doing it at WGH history. I'm not a Harding fan, but follow Trumbull County football. He's up there with Boom Herron, I've said that for 3 years. Lucky for us he was injured a little this year. Look at the comparisons between he and Boom coming out of high school Hymes: 5'10 Boom: 5'9.5 Hymes: 4.49 40 time Boom: 4.55 Hymes: 190 weight Boom: 198 Hymes: 320 bench Boom: 355 Hymes: 35" Vertical Boom: 37" Hymes: 1,359 sr year rushing yards Boom: 1,550 I think the evidence is there, Hymes is obviously a D-I player with all of his offers, stats and times.
  13. Two spots left hopefully one goes to Mr. Hymes at Warren Harding. My sources tell me he's coming here.
  14. Hymes wants to play d1 football. There's a reason Harding kids don't go Iaa. That's below them. Not sure of your sources but they're wrong. He will end up going to Miami Ohio or Akron
  15. He has D-III and small FCS offers. http://www.scoutingohio.com/index.php/view...e&user=1598 Good kid, good grades, certainly now going to put us on the map for football. If we can get that running back who's verbaled to YSU from Warren Harding, that would be huge. The kid has all the instincts that Boom Herron has at Ohio State. He would be a nice get and a nice steal from our friends at Ytown.
  16. This is very bad for us. I know Andrew's parents, yes he's a very good kid and a hard worker, but in no way is he a D-I recruit. His only offers have been Patriot league schools like Bucknell and Holy Cross. Youngstown State isn't even giving him a look. Looks like we're getting a bit desperate.
  17. How about the MAC Championship? How about beating BCS school Syracuse? How about beating Top 25 Marshall?.......As far as what fans at a HS football game are saying, I could care less. What else do people from Youngstown have to talk about....the weather.....the great economy...the booming downtown...the beautiful landscaping?I meant the MAC championship play not the Motor City. And I-AA schools beat Syracuse. I'm talking about things we do nationally to make our program known. That would be able to get us a Mark Stoops or a huge national name. Mark Stoops told us thanks but no thanks on even interviewing here. We need to build off of our MAC championship, not go backwards from it.
  18. equins, you masterfully ride that fine line between collegial other-college buddy who collaboratively compares notes with fans from other teams, and gadfly troll who exists only to annoy the fans on the board you're visiting. I really and truly can't figure out whether you mean well when you come to the Nation, or whether you're tweaking us. Or whether you know that YSU is lower-level football and want to collaborate with Zips fans because it somehow puts you at the same level with UA. Isn't there a YSU board where you can talk Penguin football? I'd really like to know your intentions because I'm itching to blast you lately but don't want to if I'm misunderstanding you here.STZI hate to be a Debbie Downer, but we haven't been the cream of the crop when it comes to College football the past 20 years here at Akron. Yes we are a higher division, but we haven't done anything besides maybe one big play vs. Western Michigan and in the Motor City Bowl and one win vs. NC State.I was at the Mooney state title game today and almost everyone was talking about the YSU job. They were talking about that more then the game. I'm just saying I want one day to walk around the mall and hear people talking about Akron football. Growing up in both the Akron and Youngstown areas I see a clear difference in what football means to people in Akron and Youngstown. I want what Youngstown has as far as fan support and community interest.
  19. Not just the "core" Youngstown State fans. It's the Mooney YSU Alum. Mooney does not have the representation at Youngstown State that other school in the Mahoning Valley have had. I.E. Warren, Boardman and Austintown. They feel out of the loop when it comes to YSU sports in general.
  20. I'm a Mooney grad myself who went to Akron for grad school. My wife is also a Mooney grad who went to YSU for her B.A. and Masters. All the Mooney alum want Stoops at YSU. No one is talking about him going to Akron, no one wants him to go anywhere else but Akron. I think some Y-town people will step up and write a check if it comes down to Mark going to YSU or Akron. Just a thought from someone in the Mooney mix.
  21. We won't play YSU until we're good enough to actually beat them. For the past 2 decades we have been on the same playing field as YSU despite more scholarships. Hopefully the new coach gets us hands down better than them. But if we played YSU yearly we would be .500 against them. It would be stupid.I know some of you will make fun of me, but I'm just a realist. Some of you need to understand our football program isn't ll that.
  22. Dish is the way I go. They give me extra channels I actually use like ESPN U and the NFL Network. My friend has time warner digital cable, all the extra channels are a bunch of crap
  23. One again as an unbiased person I have to step in. Equins you saying holding a team scoreless for 20 mins is an accomplishment isn't saying much for your program. So you as a spokesman aren't that good.2nd off the Penguins aren't my team.3rd of all the 2 games were played under entirely different circumstances. Penn State and Akron met during the 1st game of the season for both schools. Both teams were rusty, and Anthony Merelli looked atrocious against the Zips (as he did most of the 2006 season). When Youngstown State played Penn State it was played fresh off an embarrassing loss for the Lions to Notre Shame. Now the two game were played under different circumstances. Penn State scored 3 more points on the YSU defense then they did on the Zips, but they had 2 games under their belts. Plus I think Dyral Clark (who went to school at Ursuline) probably had a little chip on his shoulder against his hometown school.I was at the Penn State Akron game and enjoyed Penn State very much. I think we played a respectable game against the Lions and held our heads up high when the game ended. I also think YSU played respectable too. I watched that game on the U with my wife and although she felt YSU could win the game when it was 0-0 at the end of the 1st qrt I knew they were done. This is why you can't compare how the Zips played against PSU in week 1 to how YSU played against them in week 3. The only way to settle whose better is to play it out. Until Akron offers Penn State like money (somewhere in the $250,000 range) we won't see this happen. I don't think it's what you people on this board make YSU out to be as "whimps" its a smart business decision by YSU to gain hundreds of thousands of dollars to play the big schools. But hey you guys think what you want. But until then you people can keep attacking me, I however refuse to drink the koolaid that you people are.
  24. Anyone have a dish here besides me? I love my dish, I think its a better overall picture and more channels. In my oppinion for the picture quality and amount of channels dish is a great deal. Anyone else agree with me here?
