I am an Akron alum but now a Youngstown native. And when I hear you people speak on here its as if Akron athletics is the greatest thing since sliced bread. You should hear me about the Indians, I am more critical of the Indians front office then I am Akron. You people sit here and act as if YSU is looking at Akron and saying "Wow!" When in reality there not. Am I critical of my school, damn right I am, I want perfection I want a winner that's how I was raised. I want people to be realist as well as look at the glass half full. But when the Indians make stupid trades and moves, (Brandon Phillips, trading for Scott Stewart signing Roberto Hernandez letting Guthrie go for nothing etc etc..) I let it be known how stupid it was. Same thing with you people here. YSU was on ESPN twice last season and ESPN2 once, and ESPNU, so by your standards YSU was only on national TV 3 times. I invite you guys to do some research before making opinions.Also YSU did not get drilled they held Penn State scoreless for 1 1/2 qrts. How I know this is becuase I watch college football and follow all NE Ohio sports no matter if I am a fan of the team or not.If you really think people around the country know the Zips football team more so than the Penguins I think you are very biased. I'm sure the average college football fan can associate Jim Tressel with YSU over Taylor and the Zips. That's just my personal unbiased opinion. That stadium looks sweet. The visitors side kind of reminds me of a horse racetrack. Thats cool how their incorporating a state tradition into the new stadium

If YSU football is known by Jaworski and Tressel then I would say that is a credit to the YSU football program. Are we to shun YSU because they made a great hire of Jim Tressel? Are we saying that their football program is known because they recruited a great QB who started in the NFL? So what you are saying is that YSU recruited a great QB, and hired a great coach, but the football program isn't known? Last time I checked that's what a football program is, consisted of coaches and athletes. So why are you trying to downgrade why people know YSU because they recruited a star QB and a legendary coach? You are trying to belittle their success because their "football program" made good moves. I don't get what you are trying to say? People know YSU a marque 1-AA football program all over the country, however I' afraid YSU's football program is more known than Akrons. Every Ohio State football game I watch YSU is mentioned, I watched the Cincy Rutgers game, YSU is mentioned, I watched a Kansas football game on fox sports and YSU is mentioned because the coaching staff was all apart of the YSU program at one time.What I see living in Youngstown are 2 newspapers that devote themselves to YSU athletics, and 3 TV stations. I hear the 2nd most powerful AM radio station in NE Ohio pick up YSU athletics. I see people wearing red, Y's all over the mahoning valley, fire hydrants painted like Penguins, hell sculptures of Penguins all over the area I know call home. Where is that in Akron?We are a mediocre 1-A football program AT BEST! I would pronounce us as a below average 1-A program. When we had our good football year alumni and students supported the team, however that was all. We don't have the community support that YSU has, and a lot of that is credited to national championships and a winning tradition. IDC what level of football it is. I WANT A WINNING TRADITION IN AKRON! I want what Youngstown has in Akron, I want our local newspaper to care more about the Zips, than the Cavilers, Indians, Browns and Buckeyes. And who ever said YSU pads their attendance must have never been to an Akron football game before. If YSU "pads" their attendance then we fill our attendance figures with a lot of rubber. I don't believe YSU pads attendance figures because there is no set attendance mark in 1AA football, however we must giveaway the rubber bowl to remain 1-A. No one still comes when we give away free tickets. None of you see a problem with that at all??????? I would say there is a clear difference between an International league national championship in AAA and a college football national championship. Someone please tell me what we have gained by being 1-A? A MAC championship???? Is that it? Our football stadium still stands crumbling before my feet, we play our games on weekdays to meet ESPNU TV times. Our media coverage is non existant. Hell we can't even beat Cant in football. Now I went to Akron so I have a very good education, but I'm not a genious. But if we offer YSU $125,000 to play at the shit hole rubber bowl, and Ohio State offers YSU $600,000 to play at Ohio stadium, I'm going to say theres not a college football team in the entire country that would pick us. Lets face it guys, I live in Boardman right outside of Youngstown, and no one from Youngstown wither it be fans, coaches, athletes or AD personal are looking at the University of Akron and saying, "WOW I wanna be like them, I want a stadium like them, I want fans like them, I wanna be them." The way that we talk it seems as if we are the pride of divison I college football. I mean who the hell are we? Akron football is a small fish in a big pond. We have had one good football season since going D-1.Does it ever occur to you people that perhaps it was us who made the bad move staying D-1? We have to resort to playing our games on Thursday and Friday nights, no not for national TV but for ESPNU. For years we were the MAC whopen boys. Our staidum is laughed at by every visiting team that comes through. Since our mac title season 2 years ago no one outside of Akron fans (and even Akron fans) don't give a shit about Zips football. I saw YSU play 4 times on National TV last season and most of the games under the "This is how D-1a should do this by play-off's" title.I've seen YSU win 4 national titles, be runner ups twice, have one of the best coaches in the entire country, improve upon thier football stadium etc etc. As a D-1A team we have one count them one MAC title, 1 bowl apperance, no bowl wins, a shitty stadium, shitty fans, we have to pad our attendance by dumping thousands of free tickets just to remian D-1.So in reality we talk about "sacing" up and becoming a MAC team for YSU. But in reality the MAC aint great at anything. It's one thing to "sac" up and play the big boys and move it, but its another thing to move up and make no impact on D-1A football.Heres how I see it, you can write the history of Divison IA college football without the University of Akron Zips. You can't write the history of Divison I-AA football without YSU. So when people like 81 say stop whining and sac up and blah blah blah, what the hell have we done at the Divison I level to have any divison I team, (I-A, or AA) look up to us and say "WOW" I wanna be like Akron. Maybe YSU took a lesson from us and Cant just say fuck it lets stay here.

I know my high school basketball coach said just win and everything will be fine, there's no excuse for losing. I remember him going off on a reporter before the season started when the reporter asked if inexperience will cost us games. Reason why you lost are excuses, the other team beat you because they scored more then you did. We aren't in the dance because we didn't win the turney. We lost the regular season title because Toledo won more conference games then us. I put this squarely on ourselves and blame no one else. He needs to step up and do what needs to be done to get an auto bid next year come turney time.

If you want to see the MAC look like a joke to the whole entire world then they would have called a T on Miami. That would make the MAC, the officials, the city of Cleveland and anyone who went to a MAC member school look like an absolute joke.
