"The MAC just released its 2017 football schedule.  There are ZERO Saturday games in November." -Matt Brown

    The MAC sucks.

While I agree with the sentiment, there are some vanes on Sat Nov. 24.

    What a complete disaster.

Outside of some recruit decommits, this appears to be the 1st real casualty of the post Fleck era.

And so he is being accused of cheating: http://www.hustlebelt.com/2017/2/28/14773048/sources-pj-fleck-cheating-minnesota-gophers-michigan-broncos-baylor-bears-ncaa-college-football-mac

It will probably result in a big fat nothing-burger, but it makes it incredibly awkward for Spillane to go to MN now.

The read option had it's limited success with Ball because he ripped and tore and slashed his way through the defense. The other backs weren't strong enough to do the same, and our OL could never get a forward push.

Ball got got his yards by his own effort, not the scheme. That said, I'll take yards however I can get them.

Hopefully the OL run blocking makes a dramatic improvement this year. Other than the Ball State game, it was a liability last season.

Won't act like the OL run blocking was great, but the way that play is drew up is horrible. It is way too slow to develop. The RBs after Ball didn't help either as they hesitate rather than hit the hole.

I agree with both of those points, and they are basically the crux of my joke.

I posted this last night, but as I look more closely he's a JUCO & states he's a "mid-year 2017" grad.  So I guess that means he'll graduate in the spring & could be here for fall camp?

Per his other Tweets (mostly re-tweets), it appears as though he will graduate after this fall and thus be eligible, immediately. If he transfers now, he would have to sit out.

  5. Malik Besseck: 6' 5"/280

Offers: Georgia State, Memphis, Buffalo, Kansas, UMass, Southern Mississippi, East Carolina, Iowa State, Hawaii, South Dakota, St. Cloud State, MArshall(Twitter says 13 FBS offers, before we made an offer)

It looks like he was a commit to Georgia State during senior year and he ended up going to a JUCO. Looks like only us and Marshall have made recent offers.

I have no problem with Zips tweeting out about Jason Taylor or having an alumni fundraiser in honor of him around HoF weekend. In fact, we SHOULD do those things. I just think it's ridiculous that people believe some 18 year old kid would sign to play with Akron today because a guy played for Akron 20 years ago. It would be different if we had a history of producing those guys, but the only promising NFL player we've produced since is Brown and it's too early to know how his career will turn out.

It's not about Jason, per se, as much as it is a part of an entire effort projecting an image of success and legacy. Also, if you read the interview with Dre Williams, he said he didn't know who Bobby Bowden was and when his dad explained, he said he realized it was a big deal to get an offer from TB. Kids from Florida, if they didn't know who Taylor was, will hear about him now with the added press he will get for his HoF nod. It isn't going to create a magnet, but it sure can't hurt.

Another tweet that sort of sours me towards Lane. Scouts evaluate everything. Can't imagine immaturity is an attractive trait.

I saw these tweets last night and they really bothered me for a couple of reasons. First, I don't think it's cool to take the moment where everyone is focused on Jason Taylor and try to make it all about Jerome. I wasn't around when Jason Taylor was a big deal, but a Hall of Fame spot only get's offered to you once. I am sure Jason didn't notice, but it was a low class move by Hammond, IMHO, and Jerome only made it worse. I get that Hammond is an ambitious guy who thinks he can make a name for himself with Jerome Lane, but he has to try to show some class.

Second, let's wait and see how you perform at the combine, Jerome. The NFL scouts made the mistake of overlooking Jatavis Brown. That might have something to do with why he is getting a shot at the combine. If the Zips were to promote Jerome's attendance, it would make more sense after the combine results are in. However, I am not sure promoting a player who leaves early is exactly the trend the program wants to follow. I don't begrudge him leaving early, but I am not sure it is fair for him to expect to be promoted, especially with the negative garbage he posts on social media.
