Oh boo hoo.
I feel so horrible for offending our rival. What an injustice! Oh the inhumanity of it all! Wait, this is Kent and I could care less. Hell, I'd take the Wagon Wheel to Sunday Mass if it would pee Kent off. If it's up to me we take the Wagon Wheel to every public event we can. If they don't like it, take the trophy away from us.
Finally, I think the Record-Courrier reporter was correct. We will beat Kent again and the damn Wagon Wheel will be at the 2018 MAC Football Media day. At our table. Count on it!
I doubt they meant hurt, as in snowflake hurt. I think it was probably meant as more a shot their ego that they failed. D1 athlete's want to win.

So the walk on at Memphis didn't work for him
Coulda had a D-1 full ride. Decided to walk-on to a program that in his home down. Didn't work out, so now he's at Eastern Illinois, a program no better off than ours in FCS.
Now Buck Zip will continue to tell us how we missed out on this "great" LB, who ended up at not at a D-1 school, but an middle-ling FCS school. Here's according to 247: We'll ignore who's actually on rosters because I don't care to compare the two, and NOBODY actually knows how accurate rosters posted to websites are to reality. So just going by what's posted on 247 amount of 2017 recruiting class which the MAC school was their only D-1 offer.
Eastern Michigan 19/25 (76%) EMU was their only offer, several of which (3-4) are now with other non-D-1 teams. No idea how many are actually at camp either, because I don't care to actually check their roster compared to their recruiting class.
Bowling Green 9/21 (42%) First guy on the list who had four offers, and enrolled early, is now with a CC according to the site, another who had 6 offers (one from Auburn) is now at JUCO, most guys with multiple offers were other 1, 2 MAC schools.Buffalo 13/21 (61%) One guy with multiple offers (2) is now with a JUCO school according to the site.
Ohio 11/22 (50%) This was more difficult, because guys would have "multiple" offers, but all except Ohio's would be FCS schools. Nathan Rourke who's other offer was Akron is now at JUCO. Another guy with multiple D-1 offers (E. Kentucky) is also at JUCO. Another two guys who's only offers were Ohio, are also now with JUCO.
Akron 13/21 (61%) Will Barto had no other official offers according to this site, and of course we know he's gone.
I think this is a fair sampling. It seems like this is just more the life of the MAC than it is because Akron/Bowden sucks.
Thanks for doing the research, I wanted to but don't have time ATM.
It's harder to make baseless accusations in the presence of data.
As for Bar to, I don't believe it was known whether he was a scholarship or a preferred walk-on or whether we revoked or he decided he wanted to pursue a different route. I would bet $$ we would find an over-involved parent or parents are in the mix, here, though.

Let's make a deal.
You ask all of the posters that get all excited over all of these supposed stud transfers and supposed big time players that we hear are coming in Dec-February that never show up, and I will stop complaining that this happens every freaking year.
I honestly don't understand how it doesn't seem to bother anyone other than me that Bowden seems to only be able to get good players under 2 conditions.
1-They won't qualify, so bigger schools won't take them
2-They were injured, so bigger schools won't take them.
The rest mostly, with a few exceptions, have Akron as their best offer. If I had time and thought anyone cared, I would make a list of players that both Akron, Toledo, BG, N. Illinois offered and see what percentage Akron got of those players.
I am really done with this now. It is amazing how some posters here just refuse to see how ridiculous this crap is every single year.
Thank you for making more generalizations based on a myopic study of 1 G5 school.

I shared your thoughts but usually among the first to rip on GT so I thought I would let others have first dibbs.
The junior Zips reporter interviews are more interesting.

Both Freshman WR Andre Williams and LB Dylan Meeks have surfaced on the roster -- along with some other new names
There are 102 listed - 3 more will make the camp invite list. I am assuming 1 of the three will be Bell.

No mention of WB34?
I know, it's a little crazy. It's not like we have hidden his 6th year of eligibility.

Camp starts on Monday. NCAA rule changes will be noticeable:
- Double sessions, meaning 2 complete, contact practices, have been eliminated
- Teams are allowed to start camp 1 week earlier
- Teams can hold a second practice, but they can only be walkthroughs - no pads, helmets, contact, or conditioning
- The total pre-season practices allowed is still 29.

If Terry Bowden finishes 2017 in Akron, it will be his longest-running gig ever
This article, IMHO, has the best Zips analysis, to date.

HS Coach's remarks, "“Logan is a very high-character kid and very intelligent,” Penn-Trafford coach John Ruane said. “He is a great athlete for a big guy. He is very explosive off the ball and can really move laterally.” "

Why then don't colleges and the NFL start looking at maximum weights for players?
Say, how many concussions do professional rugby players suffer and how big are the players today? I ask because professional rugby players absolutely do not hit the same as football players do, and I believe that it's obviously because they aren't layered up with "cladding" the way football players are. Self preservation dictates that they wrap up more and they deliver more glancing blows. You also never see rugby players leading with the head blindly. The problem with American football is one of too-large steroid freaks who are protected from many injuries they would otherwise incur when they spear other players with their heads and shoulder pads. The game has gotten to the point of actually requiring smaller players wearing much less equipment. Guys like Ray Lewis would be out of the game immediately without the multiple ridiculous layers of gear. The more I think about this issue and the more I see players layered in about 100 layers of under armor and Nike plastic crap, the less respect I have for our American game. It's become a freak show.
This is very close to what I have seen Bobby Bowden propose. He actually suggested going back to no helmets for the reasons you mention.

I see where you're coming from now. Good post.
I think there is also a difference between posting a critique of a player's actual performance than to go into a character assisnation or to rip into them based on a recruit's film, alone. There seems to be never a goid reason for character assination, especially if it comes from a single source, like one player. Players rarely have all of the facts and almost never represent the coach's thinking.

Agreed. I don't mind being picked low. It's finishing low that is bothersome.
