    Merry Christmas

I will contact the Athletic Department this week. If it's a go, we'll send out an e-mail to the Oldie membership and post on the boards.Seems to me that you have to buy at least a GA ticket to get in. If you're wearing an Oldie shirt...why not let them sit with the Rowdies...right?Only thing is that they'd have to let our kids sit with us...you can see how this becomes complicated. How's the language down in the Rowdie section anyway? If you get my drift. Thanks and Happy New Year.

    Merry Christmas

Hi:We end the year with exactly 50 members. To be honest, I thought we'd have a lot more.We had a table at the Youngstown game. Only 3 signed up. We're going to have tables at more games...they'll have to be weekend games, unless someone wants to staff the table. I can't make it down from work fast enough for a weeknight game. The Athletic Department has been very helpful to us.We now have three great looking banners...donated by an Alumni who owns a banner company. We crawl before we walk. Right now we're crawling.
  5. Merry Christmas to all you OLDIES and Zips fans out there.A Holiday Wish for you all! Here's to many wins and a couple of MAC Championships in 2008!
  6. Akron...a school that specializes in broadcasting???????I'm a proud grad with a media degree, but that's a new one on me!
  7. Dear Zippy:We e-mailed all of the families in our Cub Scout Pack with a link to the capitalonebowl.com page to vote for you. That's over 100 e-mail addresses....and we always follow the Cub Scout Motto: Do your best! Thanks again for coming to our October Pack meeting! The West Side Leader ran an article about your visit with a picture.Go Zippy!
  8. You have to clean out your browser cache, close out your browser, then open back up.I have my Firefox settings set to clean out my browser cache just by closing it out. So, it's just a matter of closing and opening the browser each time you vote. You do have to create a new registered name...that you can reuse once it is created. Good Luck!
  9. Also -- The reason UNC came to NE Ohio wasn't because CSU had some whiz-bang, schedule-making God. UNC makes a deal with any recruit they sign, ensuring UNC will play a game in the kid's home town, in front of his friends and family, at some point during the kid's 4 year stay. Jawad Williams was from Cleveland, so UNC played @ CSU. Go Zips is correct -- It was originally scheduled to be Akron. Jerome Lane had the same arrangement back in the mid-80's, which is why Pitt came to Akron (Richfield).I've never heard of that before...sounds like a great idea and a value-added when it comes to recruiting.By the way, I was at that Akron-Pitt game at the Coliseum. That would have been 1987-88 season. I was living in Brecksville, where it took about 10 minutes to get from my apartment to my seat at the Coliseum. I can't remember how many were there...I'm thinking about 10 k...am I wrong? I do remember having a lot of fun!
  10. If you would like to Zippy up your desktop, try one of our AK-OLDIES Wallpapers. They're pretty good, if I do say so myself. http://www.akoldies.org/wallpaper.php
  11. I'm a little fuzzy on the bowl arrangements. Can someone help one of the AK-OLDIES who has a question?A gentlemen I work with who is a Bowling Green grad who I introduced you to at the BG game asked me a question that I knew you would know.He had heard that the GMAC bowl (Mobile, Alabama) had the first rights to pick the team out of the MAC for their bowl game whether or not they won the MAC tournament. Do you know if that's correct? I thought the Motor City Bowl had the first rights and took the MAC Champion.Any help would be appreciated....Go Zippers!
  12. I read that 900 rowdies have registered, but only 20 show up? Your 50/5 ratio isn't so bad?As long as we can bring my son down, my wife and I are in! (big difference between the Oldies and the Rowdies is the kids).Right on Captain! We always have to keep in mind that the paradigm between the Rowdies and the Oldies is much different.I would think this would work:Any Oldie (wearing shirt of course) with at least a general admission ticket for him/her and the family, can just sit down behind one of the baskets. If we get to the point where the number of seats becomes a problem, well then maybe we sit in the endzone above one of the baskets together.I'll have to see what suggestions the Athletic Department may have.Would love to hear any input from the board....thanks.
  13. This is not a bad idea Dr. Z.Perhaps we should check with the Athletic Department to see if they'll let anyone wearing an AK-OLDIES shirt sit down there.I'm afraid with only 50 members, we'd only get 5 to show up. We need more members!
  14. Kegs and Eggs? Well maybe just Cans and Eggs, but you get the picture. It was good to see everyone who showed up...even coach Faust.Click here for CMU Tailgate PicturesNow that football season is over, we'll see you at the JAR.Go Zippers!

  16. I was a little surprised Dambrot didn't seem too concerned about the foul shooting tonight. He said they should have won by a dozen points. Well they would have if they had hit more from the line.
  17. I do believe you are correct sir.I took that from the Temple game notes, which said, "That game was the last in Hall of Fame coach John Chaney's 24 years at Temple. Then top assistant coach Dan Leibovitz, now the head coach at Hartford, directed the team as Chaney was tending to his wife."I'm guilty of not reading the final sentence in the paragraph.Good catch.Change made.I'll have to have you proof all my copy!
  18. This just in from the ZipsWire....AKRON 67, TEMPLE 65Taking their lead from the Cleveland Browns, the Akron Zips made the conclusion to their 67-65 win over Temple much, much too exciting.“This should have been an 11-12 point victory,” said Akron coach Keith Dambrot. “But that’s part of the learning process.”Akron (4-1) held a 62-49 lead going into the final four minutes of the game, only to see it dissolve as Temple (2-4) launched a 16-5 run leading to the exciting conclusion that turned out on the plus side for the Zips.“It’s a big win for us,” said Dambrot who was coaching in his 100th game for the Zips. “Anytime we win a game, it builds confidence.”Temple started the game with an 11-4 lead. That’s when Dambrot called an early time out. “I just wanted to settle our guys down and let them understand what we had to do defensively.” The strategy apparently worked as Akron then went on a 16-0 run to take control of the game until the drama in the waning minutes.Cedrick Middleton led the Zips with 17 points. Nick Dials had 16 and Jeremiah Wood scored 14. Akron won the battle of the boards with 35 rebounds to the Owls’ 29.Despite the fact that free throws continue to be a problem for the Zips, who hit only 16 of 28 from the line, Dambrot doesn’t appear to be too concerned about his foul-shooting challenged club. “They’re going to make their free throws,” he added. The Zips extended their home wining streak to 12 games and have won 42 of their last 44 games at the JAR.Akron is now 2-0 against Temple, winning the first game in an 80-73 overtime contest in the 2006 NIT.Only 2,309 attended the Monday night game against Temple of the Atlantic 10 conference.Next up for Akron is Wyoming this Saturday with tipoff at 7 p.m. at the JAR, capping off this three-game homestand.“These (Temple and Wyoming) are the types of games we need to play,” said Dambrot. “That’s what I want to do with a complete schedule.”Akron-Temple Box Score

  21. Now that we know what's up...Maybe the Captain or Dr. Z should nuke this thread....the smoking gun. LOL...but I'm half serious. We don't need Carl Monday on our back.
  22. Has anyone else noticed that some of the names you've been using are no longer registered?I wonder if they've gone through their data and nuked names in some kind of sequence.I've tried using some of the names I've already registered and they're coming up as not registered.
