    PA Announcements

Great, I heard one, inbetween the first and second quarter...they could have done more..but if they did, I didn't hear them. We're happy with whatever they can do for us.If anyone heard anything, please chime in!They're also going to let us set up tables at the JAR to sign up members at the bball games...Thanks
  6. No doors. Won't be at the final game so I can't take a pic for you. But if it's like last night, someone should have no problem getting a pick with no one in there. I went in a couple of times and was the only one in there. Hot as hell in there, too. Kind of like a sauna. With that small of a crowd, the bowl REALLY shows its age.Actual photo from last night. No joke here.Dr Z, are you sure thats the Rubber Bowl? Looks like Springfield HS to me! Looks like K.E.N.T. to me!!!
  7. you mean after the signal? If that's not the smoking gun on whether or not he signaled for a fair catch:Grits ain't grocery,Eggs ain't poultry, and Mona Lisa was a man!
  8. What a great night for football...and the game turned out pretty good too!!http://www.akoldies.org/blog/
  9. The AK-OLDIES just submitted a series of PA announcements that the Athletic Department has agreed to do at the home games at the Rubber Bowl and JAR.The announcements are to be accompanied by scoreboard messages to urge UA alums to show their blue & gold pride by signing up on the Web site. So, if you're going to the OU game Wed. night...give a listen and a look see.And if you'd like to join...click here. Not sure if we'll have time to set up a tailgate...so maybe just some adult-malted hoisting in tailgate city will be the order of the day. Go Zips!
  10. You will not see them both play. JD is an egomaniac, and playing both will show that he has made a mistake. And that won't happen. CJ7 started and was replaced only when he got "in trouble." Then CJ11 was ineffective and needed to be replaced. Now all of a sudden he is "in trouble." JD can't admit mistakes, so he has to make something up to justify a move. He has wanted Domonkos out since he got here, and now all of a sudden, "academic problems." This is why Stec continues as punter, despite the 16 yard punts and lousy field position. Replacing him would show that JD made a mistake, and force him to use an Owens recruit in Hildreth. Ain't gonna happen! An egomaniac that won't admit mistakes....comforting.
  11. Can't get a better source than Dr. Knepper.I guess that's it.So instead of "25 years earlier" as the media guide states, it was really 23 years earlier. And we were the Akron.....football team...I guess.
  12. While at the BG game Friday night, a woman, who obviously noticed my AK-OLDIES gear, flagged me down and asked me what our nickname was before Zips.It was clear she thought we were, like an Indian name or something, in the vein of E. Mich. or Miami.I told her, no, we've always been the Zips. But it has got me thinking...we couldn't have been the Zips going back to day one.The official history out of the media guide states:"One of the unique nicknames in all of intercollegiate athletics belongs to the University of Akron. Originally Zippers, athletics director Kenneth“Red” Cochrane officially shortened the nickname to the Zips in 1950. Twenty-five years earlier a campus-wide contest had been conducted to choose a nickname for the University's athletics teams."Does that mean before the campus-wide contest in 1925 that Akron did not have a name for its sports teams?Does anyone have some 4-1-1 on this?Did Buchtel College have a nickname?Inquiring minds want to know!
  13. Am I going to hell for laughing at that?If you are, look me up when you get there.THAT is a great line!
  14. They should take those lights and dump them in Summit Lake.I've never understood why the FAA wouldn't let us put lights at the top of the bowl when they would be the same heighth, if not lower in some parts, as the treeline on top of the closed end.Federal Anal Administration. They should just leave the lights down and either bring in temps or play day games. The sightlines would improve so much.
  15. Hope to see any Zips out at BG tomorrow. We'll be tailgating. Our tickets are for section 10. We hope that's the Akron section. Please stop bye the tailgate and hoist one with us.Cheers!!!!Go Zippers!
  16. He's just being a smart-ass.A back-door insult.Believe me, Elton Alexander, someone who should be writing for the Solon Times (sorry Solon), has no inside info on this.
  17. Great! It will be nice to see you again.Glad you're going.
  18. Is anyone going to the Bowling Green game...AK-OLDIES or otherwise? The OLDIES will be out there tailgating and would like to hook up with other Zips fans. Please let me know if you would like to meet up out there, either with a post or a PM.We plan on leaving at 1 p.m. Friday for the 7 p.m. kick off. Thanks and Go Zips!
  19. Get on the other's schools' internet boards and blogs and explain that to them then!I think many have already figured it out (I know I didn't).Zippy's up by about 1,500 now.It can't be all us.
  20. I've heard this in the past, but have never seen evidence of it and never felt that way.On the point spread...I've seen 1.5 to 1 point for UBuffOver/Under....50 to 55.GO ZIPS!!!!
