  1. Speaking of helmets....the 1979 helmet was the worst that I can remember. Glad they only used it one year.By the way, a great Web site is The Helmet Project ... in case you've never heard of it.They're featuring an old Akron helmet on the home page right now. They do not list the Akron helmet shown below. I'm thinking about sending in these pictures from my 1980 Tel Buch.
  2. Good stuff zip81. How about something similar to what Temple does with a very simple blue lettering Akron on one side and one of three options on the other side:1. Akron again2. Zips3. The number of the player.Thanks...Something like this?
  3. Just having some fun here....
  4. This says it all. ...and of course...
  5. I'm sorry too Zen...but to me, this looks like a donkey with an out-of-whack shoulder. We can do much better than this. I didn't say to bring the "A" back. It's part of our history, and other than a throw-back game, should probably stay that way. It's a product of its era.
  6. Also that photo must have been taken before the game as later on there was approximately 50% more people seated in the reserve section.I agree. I was sitting on the press box side and there were many more than what's in his photo.I think it's a lame stunt to promo his blog or something.
  7. Our Penguin friend is being selective in his photos to prove a lame point. Here's a pic of the other side....during the first quarter...not during the pre-game like what's his name posted.
  8. I've never really like the new logo ...the mean looking Kangaroo with his shoulder crossing the A....seems a bit over the top. We can come up with a much better logo than that.I've always liked the varsity A helmets we had when I was in school..but I'm a throwback fan.I realize it's dated, but I still like it.
  9. He posts a picture of the crowd during the pre-game when most are either not there yet, or still tailgating. Then, comes up with some arbitrary 12,000 and some number for the attendance.Personally, I thought the crowd was bigger than the announced attendance.By the way, here's a picture of the other side of the Bowl about halfway through the first quarter. Not that it's impressive, but at least it's accurate and not skewed to try to prove a point. If you want Youngstown in the MAC, tell your AD and get off our backs.
  10. You be the judge: Akron Attendance vs. Can't vs. YSUPlease go away. This is so tiresome.
  11. 16,927Didn't it seem like it was more than that?I have a difficult time judging Rubber-Bowl attendance since they covered up the end zone.Maybe the goal of making it look like more people are there works?
  12. No wonder their team sucks and their school blows!
  13. Dustin Grutza... or Andre Rieu?Brandon Yingling...or Yuenglin Lager?
  14. An article in a Lexington, KY newspaper quotes a Kentucky athletic administrator saying Akron and Temple left them in a tough spot, pulling out of a contracted game at the last minute. So KY had to schedule Western KY instead.I know Kentucky was suppose to be the first game at "The Info" but I forget the reason why the contract was broken. Was it really our fault?Did the uneven schedule with the addition of Temple have anything to do with it?Linky
  15. We're not going to let a few raindrops get in the way...are we?Hell No!Nothing is over until we decide it is!Z - I ...
  16. I used to park up there before tailgate city opened.Unless they've changed the rules, I'm sure they'll be OK.Sounds like their Alumni Asso. has already set it up.
  17. Went to the store yesterday and picked up a few items for the Cincy tailgate. Please let me know if I left anything out:-kielbasa-hot dogs-sauerkraut-whole-wheat buns-pony keg, Heineken-12 pack, MGD Light (for those watching their girlish figure)-Stadium Mustard (why, of course)-Grandma Shear's chips-Doritos-Lawson's Chip Dip (why, of course)and last but not least...-bearcat meat patties (we cook 'em, then see how far we can throw 'em)Please post what you are bringing to tailgate!
  18. I like the name, "Duck of Death."Thank you Gene Hackman.
  19. Is it being run in the vicinity of the Bowl?If you are going to camp out, sure, why not. But if you leave your canopy there, I would say there is a good chance of it being gone the next morning.
  20. Sounds good.Weather should be beautiful. So far, 12 people have confirmed on Facebook.I'll try to get there earlier. Thanks for bringing the umbrella...I knew I'd forget that.
  21. Calling all Zip fans! The AK-OLDIES will be tailgating this Saturday for the Zinzinnati game. We'll probably set up sometime around 11:30 for the 3:30 game.I'll have the new blue t-shirts, so it would be a great time to sign up.Bleacher Bum, let's coordinate again. The OLDIES will be able to throw more resources behind this tailgate. We'll have at least three more canopies to set up and a couple grills.Where will we set up? Somewhere along the fence. Please look for the new Akron flag with the AK-OLDIES flag flying underneath. There will be a photographer from the school of communications. They are writing an article about the AK-OLDIES for their alumni magazine. It will be a great time.Hope to see you there....Go Zips!
  22. Put your shiney blue wig on top of the flag pole!
  23. I hope this was just for the Web, because it was a lazy report....no sound bites...no b-roll...just some boring, redundant pin head ad libbing around stadium trash, which is appropriate considering the quality of his report. No wonder he's working in Syracuse TV!
  24. That's too bad. GoZips used to sell jerseys that you could personalize with any number and your name on the back.Looks like they no longer offer that with the new home jersey. Maybe they will in the future. I'll keep an eye peeled for you.
  25. That is super cool!
