I saw us play N. Iowa in football in the UNIDome...a multi-purpose facility. It sucked big-time.Dome is moot anyway.

I forget Memorial Hall's capacity, but I think it was in the vacinity of 3,500.After graduating, I went to Indiana where the high school gyms seated 10,000.I went to a game in New Castle. Steve Alford was a senior. His Dad was coach. They have an 11,000 seat field house!I don't think it would be possible for us to average what we did this year in Memorial Hall.
-
Not sure I like it.Rather than having the stands high in the middle, why not just raise them up all around the bowl.It would still be better than a glorified high school stadium like most MAC schools.
-
I disagree. High step and swing can sound good: watch this1990 pregame video Maybe someday they'll doubletime like we used to! Absolutely Agree!!!High Step can be done very good... use PreGame for Tradition, use HalfTime to go back to the Jackoboice style...Opening SongDrill to move to 2nd Formation (During Drum Feature)2nd Song FormationDrill to "Big Sound" Formation (Duing Drum Feature)"Blow Everyone Away" SongBossa Nova off the fieldVery simple...Now that's the way a band should take the field!!!I love it.

Fat cat corporate types will probably be in the suites their company buys.If it gets to the point where getting a ticket to an Akron game becomes difficult..well, I consider that a positive.
-
It could be... if they run a promotion in conjunction with the air show. downtown is too freaken crowded during the airshow...and we're not going to get any spill over either. It's just going to be a pain.Let's see what we can do.How about parking downtown across the tracks and we tailgate on Mall C...then take the bridge over to the stadium????
-
Having it the weekend of the air show will be a disaster. So much for tailgaing in the muni lot.Traffic will be heavier too than a normal weekend now.I didn't know it was the same weekend as the air show. That is not good.

actually it IS enforcable... Its just of matter of whether the NCAA WANTS to enforce it or not. OK, I'll buy that.
-
The 15,000 rule has no teeth....although it is a good benchmark to reach for, but it is not enforceable.

What would I like to start seeing for football?-A new attitude toward the fans. We are the customer putting down our money (including students who pay their fees) who deserve to be treated better. This blanket give-a-way to the season ticket holders was a farce last year. And it was the ticket office, not the gift shops that were responsible. But still, they have kids working the concession stands and the gift shops who think it's the customer's pleasure to be served by them. They should have customer-service training before staffing the stands.-Lets face it, home football is going to be a joke until we get in to the new place. But once we're there, I would like to start seeing 6 and 7 home games a season with some middle-tier BCS teams coming to our house.-I'm hopeful that once the new place is open, attendance will increase, especially if we are winning. The corporate community will be behind the team with their suite purchases. I'm hoping that the support the Aeros have is precursor of things to come for Zips football.-More student support. Now that the stadium will be up on campus, there should be no excuse. This has been a problem for decades. Let's have some spirit contests between the dorms and the Greeks...someone in promotions should be spending their full attention to this.-And as far as driving to Cleveland for the Army game. I live in Akron and work in downtown Cleveland. I make the trip every day. Outside of rush hour, it's only 30 minutes to downtown on 77 from the west side. If you're on N. Hill, East Akron, Firestone Park, it's only a few minutes more. Campus to downtown is only 40 minutes. Have fun with it...I don't see what the fuss is about. If you park in the Muni lot on the east shoreway, you'll have all the room you need for tailgate action. Browns fans do it every home game. Does anyone have a hot tub on a trailer we could use?

Here's the image of the "tire" drum....http://www.zipsalumniband.com/photo1950.htmGet Goodyear to sponsor, and create a real crowd pleaser... Bang the drum for each point scored... (oopps. starting to sound like Purdue) It was dropped 1-2 years after, because it was hard to move around...Thought you'd like to see it... Thanks...never saw or heard of that one before.Do they make a polymer drum?

I know what you mean. Here's another one you may enjoy. It is a sports logo Web site.Very up-to-date...including the Zips..of course! http://sportslogos.net/sport.php?s=4I wish I could find a picture of that '79 helmet to send in!
-
Came across this Web site with current and historic football helmets.Go to the Akron (MAC) page.Fairly accurate, but I do see an error. In 1979, the Zips replaced the standard "A" in an oval, like the one on my signature, with a script "Zips" on the traditional gold helmet. They will correct any mistakes if someone documents the helmet. Unfortunatley, I don't have any pictures of that particular helmet.I would imagine it's in the 1980 press guide, but I don't have that one.Does anyone remember the helmet I'm talking about? It was the year that Bob Maxwell was our quarterback. We played road games at:TempleBoise StateMorehead St.E. IllinoisN. IowaWe only used that helmet the one year...1979.Here's the site:http://nationalchamps.net/Helmet_Project/

Personally, I wouldn't have any problem with it.But you realize there's not a darn thing we can do about it on this board. Why don't you e-mail AD Mack Rhodes?Gonna have to be in our house though. I'd like to see you guys come over when the new place is built. Now that we have 12 games...why not. Can't is playing Delaware St. this year. Arn't they I-AA?If you're going to play I-AA, why not keep it local...right?

practice?I can't stress it enough.Free throws, free throws, free throws!
-
See how important hitting free throws are in the final seconds of the game. That is what put this game away for the Ducks.
