I'll stop your long rant on this one. The MAC has a very long list of wins in recent years against Big 10 teams in early season non-conference games. And this includes Western Michigan's win over Northwestern which occurred just last weekend. In fact, MAC teams have recently scored as many as 4 wins in the a single year vs. the Big 10, and also won 18 games over the Big 10 in a recent 9-year stretch

Let me just reiterate that we haven't necessarily been playing well in the past, right before we put up some great efforts against top programs. We had gotten blown out by UCF and squeeked by James Madison, right before we came within 1 yard of beating Michigan. We took a thorough butt whoopin at home from Marshall right before we won on the road at Pittsburgh. What did these games have in common? BIG PLAYS. Justin March's INT return for a TD at Michigan.....Long TD catch and run by D'Orazio's at Michigan.....MTB's long catch and run at Pitt.....Hundley's big runs at Pitt. Go back a few years to the run we made at beating Tennessee in Knoxville, which was fueled by the early INT by Commack that was run back for a TD, and Hines long 70 yard TD run.

Now wait just a minute. Nobody told me that this is a trip I should have made without my Wife I like your game comments. I think that's pretty similar right now to how I am feeling about most of those areas.
-
Hey Balsy. I've always liked you, dude. But I find it amusing that you SAY that you have a disdain for political comments, but then you interject with your own political rant anyway. Maybe you should blame BUCKY, who obviously looked way back in this threat to find a negative comment about Obama, and decided to comment on it on a visiting team's chat board. That's really quite obvious that he went to great lengths to fire up a political dialogue. Personally, I find the occasional interjection of political opinion to be FAR FROM the most disappointing things that people write on here that may dissuade people from participating. And I was talking about Madison, not about the State of Wisconsin. Nobody will dispute the longstanding political culture in Madison. You may not know much about the town.
-
That's a Boy, Bucky, Keep that ultra-liberal reputation of Madison Wisconsin alive !! I was hoping not to think about that while I enjoy your football atmosphere as a visiting fan, and judge your town/campus without being influenced by your laughable political culture. Then, you had to bring it, on OUR board. I bet you think it's too bad that you missed the boat to be the recognized as the next Berkeley. But, Ken+ would surely welcome you with open arms.

While reading this article, it was ironic that I see this link below to an article about Lee Evans, the former Wisconsin WR who had a 99 yard TD reception against us in 2003, to seal the win and thwart Charlie's amazing comeback effort. http://host.madison.com/wsj/sports/college/football/badgers-football-lee-evans-resolve-led-to-rewards-including-uw/article_5de5c689-eea7-574f-8b77-a37bf60051e6.html It's also amusing that the picture they chose was a long TD reception in a win over the Suckeyes

Zips Football History Thread - Players and Games
skip-zip replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football
I'm pretty sure his name was mentioned at some point during the last 2 coaching searches. I can't remember any more details as far as whether he expressed interest, or we reached out to him, or whether he was just simply mentioned as a potential candidate. It always brings back memories of the "Air Akron" moniker of the late 80s, whenever his name is mentioned. And there was also a huge picture of him on the wall, as an NFL coach, in the old Varsity A Lounge at the Rubber Bowl. Heck, it's probably still there !! -
No, unfortunately, we know the answer to that one. Thank God it's almost over.
-
I'm sure Bowden understands how to utilize talent. But understanding his current philosophy, and what we've seen the last several years, I can be pretty sure that we will continue to be a pass-it-around team, with the running game being secondary. He doesn't want 3-4 yard gains. He wants to score points. And we may have more over-the-top type of opportunities this year than we've ever had before. There's no way we give that up for a few more rushing plays.
-
Could have been worse, and could have been better, I guess. I wish that having a single 1-point loss, when you just played 3 straight ranked teams, wouldn't be penalized so severely. The UCLA loss will drop us into the low teens. Then it's time to start climbing.
-
There's close games, and then there's 21-3 games.....Unless you are a potential recruit who watched the game closely, and chose to look only at a specific silver lining.
-
Oh Boy

You want something that might hold some water with Wisconsin fans in particular, if they are underestimating us ? The game at Camp Randal in 2003, where the Zips were stopped inches from the goal line with 6 minutes left, in which we would have taken the LEAD in the contest. In fact, Charlies says that "we would have won the game". http://www.espn.co.uk/college-football/recap?gameId=232490275

I'm well aware of how that game went. I often compare it to the OSWho game in 2007, when we trailed 3-2 at halftime, and were still within a score up until near the end of the 3rd quarter. The only major difference might be that the Suckeyes were #12, and Penn State wasn't ranked. And of course, the major similarity was that we could not score in either game. Regardless, I never saw either game as something you could hold up and brag about to any college football audience. You might be able to benefit from some internal moral boost for your defense from playing well. Or maybe some sense of encouragement in a conversation among Zips fans. But, it doesn't mean squat to anyone else beyond that. People are still going to laugh at Akron for losing by 18 to a Big 10 school. They don't care about the details.
-
I thought I saw him too. Maybe he just wasn't used in this game. But as I've said before, I was puzzled by the move. He's another potential big-play guy on the outside. I just don't think that the tendencies of this offense are suddenly going to change. I expect that he will be horribly underutilized, but hope I am surprised.
-
Obviously not, but I still absolutely loved his ability as an outside pass rusher.
-
I love Tommy. But, if he's better than the starting QB that a premier SEC team can put on the field, I will be more than pleasantly surprised.
-
Sometimes in sports, a team just has your number. That has apparently been the case with UCLA the last two years. Time to erase it, move on, improve, and rebuild our ranking.
-
I must admit, I've seen a few people on here over the years point to our 21-3 loss to Penn State in 2014 as some sort of accomplishment, and I've never bought that one.
-
Oh my gosh. Don't get a couple of the Big 10 excusers around here fired up again by suggesting that a Big 10 win against an SEC school is just as improbable as a MAC win over over a Big 10 school.
-
Unbelievable. How many people in Akron Ohio are going to subscribe to the PAC-12 Network as part of their tv package?
-
Perfect. As I always say, if you come to this board spewing multiple paragraphs to defend the behavior of a competing school, expect what you get. But beware, Wadszip, you'll likely soon get several more paragraphs from the same poster that will likely be more and more vehement than the last, which might even venture into speculation about your personal life. Enjoy

I commented about this game in another thread, and I will repeat this here. If we are to have a chance up there, we'll need to rely on some good one-on-one matchups in the deep passing game, similar to the way we attacked Michigan on the road two years ago. We have guys who can do that. I don't believe we need to score a lot. Wisconsin doesn't appear to be an offensive juggernaut, and that's the best news we could get coming out of their Week 1 performance.
-
It was scary the way they could move the football against us. I wasn't expecting that. Chuck has his work cut out for him to get this defense to produce. Hey everyone. Regarding Wisconsin, we seem to all forget that we didn't take a good team to Michigan a few years ago either. But we made some big pass plays in that game. And this team has even more big-play guys in the passing game right now. I'm not saying we can win up there, but our makeup does put us in a similar situation to win some one-on-one matchups down the field. And you always have a chance (as slim as it might be) when you are playing a team that can't score points. Congrats to Western Michigan. The long string of MAC OOC wins early in the season against Big 10 teams continues.

This is not police. It's State Liquor agents. Be on the lookout. I don't want to see people getting cited for having a good time at a Zips sporting event. The word will get around fast on that, and will be a deterrent to student participation in particular.
