That would work too. They find a way to play the Super Bowl early on a Sunday evening, so why not the D-1 Basketball National Championship game?
-
In some instances, it stinks to live in the Eastern time zone. If they played a game like that any earlier on a Monday, the people in the major West Coast cities would still be at work. That's why most of us never get to see the end of the Monday night football games. I see two solutions: 1) Friday night semis, Saturday night final - Why not? These teams are used to playing two nights in a row at this time of the year. 2) Friday night semis, and Sunday afternoon final - I think they've never considered this because they'd rather be on weekday prime time nationwide for better ratings.

Football mirrored that, with Owens. How can you keep a football coach for that long with a record 20+ games under .500 ?? Those were certainly some of the dark days of Akron Athletics, since football and basketball struggled mightily, simultaneously.

Just a Spring game, but...

 I'd love to hear more details when you have a score, or any other information. -
It's not that complex. He never took an assertive role offensively, and had plenty of opportunities. Then, somewhere along the line, he lost his confidence to shoot the basketball. Love the guy, but he was far, far away from being an Andy Hipsher. And Reggie has an even much longer way to go to ever reach that level.
-
Zeke - Yes Diggs - Yes Tree - Absolutely McAdams? - Are you kidding? Walsh - Unfortunately, No. One of my favorite Zips players ever, but his total production, especially in terms of points, was well under what I expected from him.
-
I think you'd have a hard time claiming that Romeo Travis - a MAC Player of the Year honoree - was not top notch talent. I'd say that Hipsher was justified in giving one of his sons a scholarship. But, the other one was just plain awful.
-
This guy was only 2nd team in his high school conference, and ended up playing at Michigan as a freshman? That's quite a leap.
-
I'll never forget when that whole group of Seniors in 2000 lost an opening round Mac tourney game to #13 Central Michigan at Rhodes Arena. What a way to cap off their careers. I think Dan won 2 MAC tourney games in his entire career at Akron. I love how the article claims that he mentored Keith. I guess they totally forgot about what Keith had done previously, and that his job at Akron was the beginning of his 2nd round of college coaching. You guys are bringing some fond, old memories to the surface again. I'm quite surprised that Dan ever got a head coaching job again.

Wow. I've never liked his chances of getting drafted, but 18th among all Centers?? That's crazy. I took a few minutes to look up some other prognostications, and I see one with him ranked #93 overall, and another one that didn't have him in the Top-100. I hope we get better news as it gets closer to draft day.
-
What bearing would that have on whether a particular person would be welcomed, or not welcomed, at a celebration?
-
I'm wondering just how that would look, compared to that debacle that OSWho just tried to pull off, where the ex-players carried Jim T. around the football field to cheers from their robotic fans for their 10-year championship anniversary. My guess is, AA would be coming back 10 years after his embarrassing exit, so fewer people would probably mind. But if someone's "indiscretions" were very recent (see Ohio State debacle), I would hope that our school would show a lot more class and not allow something like that to taint a celebration.
-
Joe's show is great. He went into a nice rant the other day about how some Columbus beat writers were pounding their chests about their perceived superiority over Wichita State, before they had their butts handed to them. I loved it. Typical Ohio State.
-
You're right. Nobody ever claimed that you said that. You were quoted correctly.
-
I don't think most people here, including myself, are arguing with you about his draft status as much as we are arguing some of the things you are saying about his skills that are just absurd. As I said earlier, stick with the things he is good at, and hope he gets drafted based on that. We all hope that happens. But, he is not going to get drafted because "he can hit the deep 2s/3s" (as you contend), or because anyone of them believe your assertion that he is a "physical" player.
-
Dave, As Zips fans, we have to love the part of this article where the writer believes that the talent gap in college basketball is closing.
-
It's a done deal. It's being reported this morning that he is indeed jumping ship for USC.
-
Wow. You dig a deeper hole with every post. Now you want to add "Physical" to his accolades ? Something that I don't believe I have ever heard once as a descriptive word, by anyone, in the 4 years he played at Akron? And I thought "can hit deep 2's/3's" was off the deep end. Can I respectfully ask how many of his games you've actually watched over the last few years?

Someone has the cart before the horse
skip-zip replied to pat's topic in General UA & Campus Discussion
I know the city has aspirations. But, I've been puzzled for a long time by the desire to add downtown hotel space in Akron when the business isn't there. Now they appear even more desperate to build something when the need is moving in the other direction? Sure sounds like a "cart before the horse" scenario to me. If the U of A was getting enough requests for those public rooms, I'm sure they wouldn't have moved towards turning that into dorm space. Wouldn't the nightly income far exceed a dorm room rental? I don't like not having good downtown hotel space in a city like Akron. But, until the need grows again, I'll be surprised if the "investors" make any major moves to make that happen, regardless of the city's aspirations. -
There's a lot of people in that camp. We'll see how things go for Tree over the next year or two, but most people believe the NBA-level talent is already there. The comparisons to Jerome Lane seem pretty fitting.
-
No, unless we find out that his "activities" are far less serious than what we are being led to believe so far. I don't want to be Ken+ State.
-
Hold your horses. Steve Alford just took the job, after just agreeing to a 10-year contract extension at New Mexico.
-
So, this explains his lack of offensive rebounds too? Are you also trying to make a point that he can shoot from long range? Have I been missing something? Please, stick with talking about what he is good at, and hope that he can possibly get drafted into the NBA based on that.
-
I think that as every year passes, the likelihood of a big enough school making Keith a great offer continues to diminish. He's in his mid-50s, has already been winning consistently for years, and Duquesne is the best program in recent years that has tried to lure him away? What are the chances that the level of interest in him would suddenly elevate to a higher level now?
-
This is precisely the skill set that I believe he brings to the table, which would have a big impact on our play.
