Well the Akron Aeros Are Going to Tick A Lot of You Off...
skip-zip replied to UAZip0510's topic in Off Topic, Smack & Jokes
I think this would be a great idea everywhere. We need to get the out-of-town alums to band together. And an even better place to gather would be at a Zips road contest in your area. But I'll still be surprised if an event like the one we've been discussing was OSU initiated. I'd surely bet that it was a simple, internal, patronizing promotion. I'm just angry as heck that they can't do something like this for the huge University that's right next door. -
Simple answer for Duquesne fans: I'd say the chances are ZERO that Keith stayed at Akron for 8 years, and compiled a great record, to earn a chance to leave for a job like Duquesne.

How do we know how many Buckeye honks will show up either? Just because they are inviting people to come to a baseball game wearing Red and Silver, and its not even one of their own sporting events? Akron has 30,000 students right down the street, plus faculty and staff. If it was announced properly at the U, I bet you'd be surprised how many people would show up. I go to Canal Park once in a blue moon. But, I'd go for that event. -
Ok...now that I know how to search for them, there's a bunch of them on there. They're just as funny today The amazing thing is that this was documenting how their FOOTBALL team was better than OSWho, which has held true. We've always known that Ohio has good equality in D-1 basketball, but I couldn't have predicted that someone else besides OSWho would reign supreme in football.

I'll be SHOCKED if that's the case. I'd guess that someone was just coming up with ideas to generate ticket sales, and thought that some kind of Ohio State Pride night was a good idea. -

One of the funniest posts this year. -

Thanks for posting this. What a punch to the gut to everyone associated with the major University that's literally right next door !!! But, I'm sure all of the Akron-area OSWho bandwagoners are loving this idea. And some of them will show up. They are like programmed robots. This type of event is actually a great idea, in theory. But, why not launch Akron fireworks in Akron colors and show some local support for their local, major University? Again, it's part of the pompous and incorrect assumption that everyone must be OSWho fans because we live in Ohio. Do you think a ballpark in Cincinnati, or even Dayton or Toledo would host an OSWho Night ? And what would the reaction be like ? I can never say this often enough. This is another opportunity for us to voice our pride. Nothing is going to change until people hear that the Zips faithful here in Akron do not care to see such attention being given to a competing University that's 150 miles away, right under our noses. -
Roles of new and previously limited PT players in 2012-13

This is exactly what I am hearing too. If it's true, look out. I'm a skeptic when it comes to newcomers, but I think this is the most optimistic I have ever been about a guy possibly coming in and having the potential to be a star very quickly. -
I never said he cost his team the game. His coach obviously didn't agree with him about not running up the court.
-
Maybe he should try going to Bradley. That seemed to work out well for another ex-MAC coach Did anyone else catch the clip in the highlights for the OU game where Cooper got hit on the head, and started getting all dramatic about it, and his coach started jumping up and down pointing for him to get his butt up the court? Classic.

I hope someone else is watching the D-II championship game. And do any of you feel jealous? The host is Northern Kentucky. A DIVISION II SCHOOL. Nice arena, with all chairback seats, two levels with the upper level overhanging the lower level, with some suites in the middle. Unbelievable. And they sit right between Cincinnati and Lexington. Part of the reason I posted this is because I DO want a new arena. I just argue about the information I have which indicates that it's unlikely to happen anytime soon.
-
True. And I also thought it was interesting that they all seemed to abandon their offense completely in overtime, and just started chucking up long 3-pointers. I think they were just tired by that time, and were finally worn down by the Tarheels. But, they seemed to be doing some of that in the MAC title game too. I guess thier luck finally ran out.
-
That would certainly explain why he might not be following the guy he's guarding out to the perimeter.
-
Only a typical Ohio State honk could interpret that to mean anything else. I laughed hysterically when I heard the remarks he made. Losing to Ohio schools would put their bandwagon fanbase at risk, so they prevent that by not scheduling them. Hilarious. And they don't care if they admit to it !!!
-
Cincy definitely had some really bad football years back then !! If we can beat them now, it would be a great accomplishment.
-
Thanks for posting that article. I hope we make him eat his words too, but right now, I think he's right !! I've been to UC for athletic events. Those folks wear shirts that say things like BUCKEYE STATE with the "UC" made larger. It's a complete mockery of OSWho, and a feeling that THEY represent Ohio. They treat OSWho as a competitor, and I don't see people running around at their games in Red and Silver shirts. And you should hear some of their radio ads that have mocked OSWho when their football team is ranked higher. They have pride in their city, and their LOCAL university, and couldn't care less about what's going on 2 hours down the road. We don't do that in NE Ohio. We have only minimal support for our local universities, and CLING to Ohio State as the next closest major college with some level of prominence on a national level. Maybe if we supported our local schools like they do in Cincinnati, and show more pride, we couild actually get oursevles to the level where what is happening 150 miles down the road doesn't matter to the people around here too.

Well said.

No Dave, I never said it was ridiculous to have a goal to make the Sweet 16. I said it was ridiculous for someone to somehow claim that the 2012 Zips almost reached that goal.
-
I'll go back to something I said a couple of months ago. Some people were anticipating the 2011-2012 Edition of the Zips to be some kind of reincarnation of UNLVs teams of the 80s. And in the end, the most notable change was just that they were often more prone to mistakes. So, I'm still torn on what direction to take from here. Keith has seemed to be willing to change. But, is allowing this particular group of guys to play a more undisciplined style of basketball really a good idea for a team that often appeared this year to be desperately in need of more discipline? Or, could allowing a more open style actually eliminate some mistakes by eliminating the pressure to execute called offensive plays? It'll be interesting to see what actually changes between now and November, and whether it was a good idea. But, I am all for a more entertaining brand of basketball, if it works.
-
Because "what might have been" was a galaxy away from where we actually ended up.
-
Are you serious? Please, make a case to anyone who's not a Zips fan that Akron was close to being a Sweet 16 team this year, and see what kind of response you get. Sooooo many basketball games come down to a couple of plays that bounce either way, which surely included many of the games among the other 200 teams who were playing in their own conference tournaments, and who could have ended up in OUs spot too. And they all could have potentially gotten thier butts kicked by Michigan. This connection between Akron and the Sweet 16 is just ridiculous. We're not OU right now. They've beaten us 5 of the last 6 times they've played us, including some major blowouts. We weren't even in the tournament. And we couldn't even win a game in the tournament between the teams that didn't qualify. I wish that wasn't the case, but that's our reality right now.
-
That's right. Now you're making sense. That's because we join about 200 other D-1 programs who woke up this morning saying that they could have beaten Michigan and USF too, if only the ball had bounced their way in their conference tournament, and they could have taken OUs spot. Wait a couple more weeks. When the national champion is decided, there will also be plenty of fans of teams who will claim that they could have been national champs, using the same logic. I know it hurts today. I'm feeling it too. But, unfortunately we have to live with the reality that we did not make the tournament field, and were ousted in the first round of the NIT.
-
Thanks. I couldn't have said it better myself. Some of what I am reading reminds me of the old matrix whereby every team in the country can make a claim that they won the national championship because they beat a team who beat a team who beat a team that won it all. We lost the MAC title game, and then exited the NIT without winning a game. That was how we finished our year, and that's how we will be judged. On to next year.
-
Whether our thoughts are positive or negative in regards to this news, prepare yourselves to see tons of national publicity and support over the next 4 days for the new Cinderalla Story of this year's NCAA Basketball Tournament.
-
We didn't make the tournament, and got eliminated without winning a game in the tournament for the next 32 non-qualifying teams. I'd say that's a long, long, long way away from being in the Sweet 16. We're we almost in the Elite 8 in 2002, if we had only had a couple of bounces go our way against Ken+ that year? Lets be remotely realistic. Using your logic, every team in the country could make a claim that they were almost in the Sweet 16. I completely agree with your last sentence.
