  1. Exactly.
  2. I know one thing, just BEING in the CWS is getting them tons of coverage (see my post). I only wish that we could garner the same attention for soccer.
  3. I can never root for Ken+, period. But, let me add something, which bothers me a bit, and surely must frustrate the heck out of the soccer fanatics on this board. Ken+ is only in the Sweet-16 of the college baseball tournament, and are getting tons of Cleveland sports coverage, and at least one of the stations is sending a sportscaster to Omaha to do live reports from all of their games. I only wish that soccer was popular enough so that reporters would be traveling around with our guys during our championship soccer runs, and get us that kind of publicity. Some people may not want to agree with me, but maybe it's just another testament to how far soccer is buried down at the bottom of the totem pole when it comes to the interest of American sports fans.
  4. It's funny how the bashers have disappeared. I'm sure they will resurface. It's a Cleveland sports fan tradition. Just wait until they have another opportunity to exhibit embarrassing behavior that gets publicized nationally.
  5. Catching up ? If he grew two inches, I'd be surprised if his wingspan stayed the same
  6. Glad to see you on the massive soccer attendance bandwagon so early this year. And doing so on the Football Thread. Since that would probably more than double what we drew when we played WVU at home during a national championship run, in an NCAA playoff game, I'd say you're probably pretty close on that estimated attendance
  7. Give me the night games. Gives me all afternoon to tailgate, and plenty of time beforehand to get a few other things done, and get everything together and loaded into the truck
  8. Which explains why some people could listen to them, and get all wrapped up in their Godly image of Tressel all over again.
  9. Ok. I get it now. So THAT'S what I-Coach meant when he used the word "Process". And he was right.
  10. I think most people assume the worst because of the history of the number of times these types of situations don't work out vs. the number of times they turn into great success stories.
  11. All depends on how much you think UA would put themselves at any kind of risk of letting him have anything at all to do with luring a prospective athlete. Unless, you are simply referring to him having a knowledge that JT now works for the University in some capacity. In which case, we have to wonder if that would have any impact at all on an athlete.
  12. I've brought up this school before, because they play against Wayne State. I grew up in that area. "Small" is an understatement. If you don't turn your head at the right moment while driving by, you'll miss it.
  13. I joined you in the "possession" category. But with those guys, it's anyone's guess
  14. It doesn't appear that he has totally given up his love for Ken+. He picked an astounding 11 Ken+ players on his All-MAC team.
  15. It has my vote
  16. I think we should use Old Gold uniforms as much as possible, in all sports. It's very distinctive. And we should sell alot more Old Gold tee shirts, for the same reason. Last season, I think we missed a great opportunity to use Blue and GOLD letters and numbers on those Gray uniforms.
  17. Maybe it was a MAC title game, but in terms of national impact, there was no bigger win than NC State. And it happened on the road. And talk about going from such a high, to such a low..........we lost 7 day later to Central Mighigan, and got embarrassed at Ken+ two weeks later.
  18. I was both. That's why I included the drinking emoticon
  19. Nooo. That was Faust. That was the Acme-Zip game in 1992, which was the year that Gerry has only 3 losses, and posted our best record even in D-1A competition....which still stands today. By the way, I was way too old to be running on the field that night......but I did it anyway !!!! Steve French's radio call of that field goal is legendary.
  20. Couldn't you say the same thing about the people who repeatedly use Zips Nation to try to convince people to believe the contrary? After a half century or so of history tells us otherwise? And let me correct you. I think plenty of people on both sides of this issue, including myself, come here to discuss Zips Soccer.
  21. Wouldn't it be best to separate the discussions about the amount of publicity he draws to the school and how much he donates monetarily?
  22. First of all, a lot of kids have always played soccer, for the very simple reasons I have mentioned. Where is this sudden breakout of participation by youths? And how is that somehow linked to kids idolzing pro soccer players when pro soccer is not even popular in the US ?
  23. So, in response to my post, you are saying that times have changed, pro soccer is easily assessible now, and that youth soccer is huge because these kids look up to pro soccer players? Then why has youth soccer been so big for decades now? Why are soccer fanatics so emphatic in their denial as to why so many little kids play soccer? It's a game that is able to be played by kids with little or no instruction. You can throw the ball out there and simply tell them to kick it in the net. There's no equipment. You don't need a big financial commitment as a parent. The reasons are pretty simple.
  24. What a revelation. Tons of youths play soccer? We've known that for decades. It's inexpensive for parents, and great physical fitness for their kids, and I've pointed this out on many occassions.
