I think we probably need to separate this between what WE think should happen....and what the COACHES will do. Bowden has made it pretty clear for the last 2 years that Woodson is our best option. Maybe he's right. As far as Kato is concerned, he now has had a bad game and a good game. So, I wonder if Terry is now satisfied that he has a game-ready backup, and goes back to his proven starter? But for ME, I think I'd be happy if Kato goes against Kent. If that falls apart, switch back to Woodson for the remainder of game, and the MAC title game and/or Bowl.

I was actually surprised that it was such an active and vociferous crowd, for the number of people who were there.
-
No surprise. I think everyone is probably thrilled that this was the year that we drew an awful opponent, and a JAR home game, in the Coaches vs. Cancer game.

It's like.... "Don't you Akron people be thinkin that I am a couch potato reporter"
-
I will "hope" along with you. I think some people need to jump on this news that "Akron is one win from a MAC East title", and spread it everywhere on campus and in Akron. We should have more believers after getting over the big hurdle last night. With an early forecast of 50 degrees, there's a chance to get more people than last night too. But the "November Tuesday night" affect is the hardest part to overcome. And with Kent's season lost, we can't expect much from their "supporters". Did you see how many people showed up for the CMU at Kent game last night? You may have been able to count them on both hands. I'd say that if we can get a few thousand more than we had last night, that might be it. I think a "big turnout" might be hoping for a miracle.

It was just strange. One thing you can always expect from a new QB (especially one like Kato who scrambles) is that he is going to try to make some big plays when things aren't going well. Yet, he never tried to do that against Miami.
-
I did have one predominant thought during the game, in regards to Kato...... Where were these nice DOWNFIELD passes in the Miami game? I was pleading for Tommy to return because I thought we needed the big pass plays (or the threat of big pass plays) to beat OU. And I didn't see that from Kato in the Miami game to give me any indication that he'd be looking long last night. I don't know. Maybe it had something to do with the way each of those teams defended us.

I think I know which one you're talking about. In my opinion, if none of the officials blow the whistle to stop the play for a false start, then it HAS to be Defense Offside. What happened there? it's like they huddled after the play, and one of them said, "Oh yeah, I did see the offensive guy move early, I just forgot to blow the whistle" ????? But there was another one where our offensive line stood still at the snap of the ball because an OU defender jumped into the neutral zone early. Kato treated it as a free play and basically threw the ball away, and it was a 3rd down play. Everyone looks around, and there was NO FLAG. We had to punt. That one was costly too. Did you see that on the replay?

Yes, a pretty incredible progression between his 1st start, and his 2nd start. In fact, that's probably even an understatement. Tonight, he looked like a guy who's ready to perform and lead as the starter on the D-1A football team.
-
I can finally claim that something I harp about on the basketball threads now applies to the football threads. So I will say it here. Maybe the fact that we were able to challenge our guys with high-level D-1 competition early in the season is paying dividends now. And maybe OU's inability to challenge their guys in those games has not. This is why I'll always support the idea of scheduling the best teams out there. Penn State, ISU, and Troy are all having outstanding seasons. Even if those last 2 ended up being even better than we expected, those experiences, even in a losing effort, probably had great value to us today.
-
Nope. That guy is at every game. I need to meet him and thank him for his incredible enthusiasm and loyalty.

As much as I was pleading with everyone on this board to have "hope" over the last few days, I have to admit the following: 1) When I saw that Kato was our starting QB, my hope faded. 2) When OU scored on their first drive in 2 plays, my hope faded even more. 3) When OU took at early 21-10 lead, I think I lost all hope. 4) When the officials tagged us with about a 10 to 1 margin in penalty yardage, and kicked out 2 of our players, it was official that everything that could go against us was surely going against us. And somehow.......We overcame all of that, and won the game. Wow.

You missed what he said. He said "most successful regular season in program history", which is not true. But yes, this might be the biggest win ever.
-
Tommy Who?
-
Huh? We'd be at 7-5, which is not even close to the 7-3-1 mark set by the 1992 team in our D-1A era. And if "program history" is the time frame, we've had 10 win teams going back before our D-1 days.
-
Terry is smiling because he just saved his job.
-
We're now a damn 5 yard gain on 3rd down away from victory.
-
I saw another Pass Interference call coming. I was holding my breath.
-
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS Now, run out the clock !!!
-
what is the penalty yardage difference now?
-
No. OU would only have 2 losses, if we win tonight.

I think you're right, because that would mean we just lost at home to Kent, and lost 3 in a row to end the season. It would be impossible for Terry to frame that as "we're moving in the right direction". I think that would be enough for the new regime to justify moving in another direction. But I think he stays at 6-6 with a bowl win.

Here's a little more info. for you guys, with bracket. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1986_NCAA_Division_I_Men's_Soccer_Championship I even found a place where you can buy a Video of that game. I don't remember much from listening to the game. I know who we played, I remember the final score, and I remembered that it was in the Tacoma Dome in Washington.
