  1. I wrote a pretty detailed e-mail, about Can't and Akron being the only two "major" colleges in their viewing area, etc., etc. etc.All I got back was a short response saying that they had a contractual obligation to switch to ABC at 3:30pm. According to the Beacon Journal article, it was THEIR decision to cut away to the other game. I'd like to know the truth.
  2. This reminds me to ask....Even though I was there, I didn't see exactly how John Mackey got hurt. Did someone see it on their recording of the game??I remember him running into the backfield, then the running back took an inside route. I think a blocker was trailing Mackey from behind at the time. I'm wondering if someone can look at that.
  3. Please, lets not over analyze this. It's nothing more than some people looking for some other explaination why they lost a game, other than being flat-out beat.I keep hearing different people on the losing side say that they dominated the statistics. Well, that's not true either (even though the only statistic that matters is the score). We had more first downs. We had a better 3rd down conversion rate.We converted a 4th down try (they were 0-2)Our QB's had a better completion percentage. We committed less turnovers. We had more interceptions. We controlled time of possession. That covers roughly half of the statistical categories.
  4. It's in honor of a kid that went from Willard Ohio, to Akron, to getting drafted by an NFL team, to making the roster, to starting 20 some games....all in about a 7 year period. I'd say that's quite an accomplishment, don't you?Furthermore, we are all celebrating the fact that he is now in a situation that he should have been in to begin with, playing for a coach and an organization with a reputation for developing young quarterbacks. A situation that Cleveland cannot provide, and will not be able to provide, without some major changes.I've never purchased an official NFL jersey in my life, but I might get this one. Does that answer your question?
  5. Captain...maybe this will give Martin his chance to see that Akron's superior conditioning program made the difference in the 4th quarter, as JD suggests. Oh...wait...I forgot. This could not have been the reason why they lost.
  6. I clearly remember the play where Jackson got pushed back to the ground after he got up. It was LONG after the whistle. Maybe this writer would like to talk about that one. I can't remember any of us saying anything else last year except that we lost, and they played better than us. I guess we can't expect the same class this year.
  7. I'm a little surprised that a professional would respond by implying that the other stations would have laughed at us if we asked them to cover a game. That tone comes off as being very demeaning, and very childish. After all of these developments over the last couple of days regarding this broadcast, I sort of feel like the family dog at the dinner table right now.....I got to eat a couple of scraps of food off the floor after everyone else had eaten, and they think I should feel priviledged to have received such a feast.
  8. Unbelievable. I've never seen an instance where a team that lost blamed it so much on some other factor, rather than giving credit to the victor.I'm sure that Lively and Grant, in making a tackle a Jarvis, both took time to stop and say to themselves, "Hmmm...I wonder which ankle I have in my hand right now?".In order for this theory to be true, this would have had to happen. YOU LOST !!! GET OVER IT !!! And tell your coach to accept it as well.
  9. It's a catch 22 situation. We think we need a more high-profile conference to get better attendance.However...The high profile conference reps. would likely come to our games to "court" us as a new member, and would also likely never extend an invitation once they saw 5,000 people in the seats, which is the typical amount that actually shows up regularly at our homes games.A good 2-3 year run of high attendance in a new stadium might get us where we need to be. Lets hope.
  10. WHOA!!A defensive end that can run the 100 yard dash in 12 seconds??I can already envision him running down the sidelines after grabbing a tipped ball out of the air.
  11. An intelligent person could even make the argument that when they switched to 3 minutes of commercials before going to the OSU game, THAT would have made more people switch to ESPN, as opposed to if they had shown the final minute of the Akron game with a message at the bottom of the screen saying "we will switch over to the Ohio State game immediately following the conclusion of the Akron game".I don't think ANYONE would have complained about this. In fact, if you are a true NE Ohio college football fan, I think you would have been thrilled to see the exciting conclusion of the Akron/Can't game, and possibly miss a few early minutes of the Northwestern game. As for the point about losing advertising revenue, they will likely lose MORE advertising revenue in the long run by having less viewers. Advertisers pay to advertise on a station based on the number of viewers. I really think this decision will come back to haunt them....Big Time !!
  12. The more and more I read this thread, the sicker I get. We need to be heard.
  13. I'd have to agree. I like those colors, and they actually look good with a Zips hat.
  14. Let me add one more thing...If you read JD's press conference transcript, he is giving no indication that he is going to bench DK. In fact, I believe he says that he needs to get him off of special teams to give him more rest so that he can perform better at RB.But, this still doesn't explain why he would have just vanished from the depth chart. Is there a bigger development that we just haven't heard about yet??
  15. In response to uakronkid's data......I hate to bring this subject up again, since most of us hate Can't so much, but this is why a Can't win over OSU would be an ENORMOUS boost for all of us.But with that said, I still would have to be ill to root for Can't.
  16. I also feel that, in due time, Allen will surface as the best overall running back in our arsenal.
  17. OK...this REALLY escalates this situation now. We got kicked off the air for the pregame show????????????Captain, I could be wrong, but I'd guess that there is probably several hundred thousand Akron and Can't State alums in the Cleveland viewing market. Which will even cause further problems for these people who made such an unimaginable decision.I'm just absolutely stunned. We really need to be heard on this one. This should be a much bigger story. Now, we have the ABJ problem on top of that. Not only do they misidentify the person holding the wagon wheel, but now it appears that they might not be aware that Ohio State plays in the same division as Can't and Akron. And this is our "hometown" paper??I haven't felt this aggravated since we got snubbed by both basketball tournaments back in March.
  18. The best news here is that Miami is nose-diving. Let's face it, we'll need to win a road game or two to have a chance to win the MAC East. And I thought previously that Buffalo was our best chance. But now, Miami is looking like a good opportunity as well.
  19. Maybe our coaching staff has been saving a Jabari throw for a critical situation, like we had on Saturday. But I certainly would have thought that we would have seen Jabari, with his quarterback experience, throwing the ball on end-arounds, or similar plays, several more times over the last couple of years.
  20. GP1....some good points.Let me add some thoughts...First, I am glad this issue is getting some media attention. It does show that people have voiced their opinion, and it certainly does not generate good publicity for one of our local tv stations. Secondly, I think they made a HUGE mistake by upsetting Akron AND Can't fans COMBINED, as opposed to it being a game that had one of the two teams pitted against another opponent from outside the area. This is a NE Ohio station, so you can only imagine how many Akron and Can't students, alums, and fans live in their viewing area. Third, there simply is no comparison between the end of one closely-matched game, and the beginning of what was sure to be a blowout. If I were a Buckeyes fan (and I never will be) I would have to consider myself to be pretty sad if I had complained about missing the first minute of that Northwestern game. Overall, I think if they had just stayed with the Akron/Can't game until it ended, they would have never heard a thing. BAD MOVE.
  21. Anytime a coach becomes a coach at the D-1A level, a potential opening at their alma mater will always get people talking.Without getting into another debate about whether JD is/will be/is on his way to becoming a successful coach, I think that a program like Colorado State will likely go after a more experienced head coach.
  22. The people I was with pointed out that Fuqua was open on several occassions. It will help our offense tremedously if opponents need to start covering him because he's viewed as a threat. That won't happen unless we start throwing to him.One of JD's press conference quotes mentions that he wants Carlton to operate the offense better. I'm sure this is part of it.
  23. Come on you guys....I've been tailgating at the Rubber Bowl for a few decades. At the same time, 100 similar parties are going on all across the county. It's probably wishful thinking to hope that no incidents will occur at these kinds of events. But they do happen, and they are not the result of any particular institution or group. It's individual people making some bad decisions, and the alcohol doesn't help. And with the rival fans floating around, I'm sure some people were a little bit more fired up than usual. Personally, I was out there all morning with my tailgate group, and within my eyesight, I saw nothing but people enjoying themselves and having a good time. Asking tailgaters in general to ensure that we have a good and safe experience is fair. But, PLEASE don't escalate this thing by pointing fingers.
