  1. For me, that was the worst part about tonight. We had finally gotten to the point where the win streak, the national notoriety, and the rivalry game came together as a perfect storm to get a big crowd on the bandwagon. Students were lined up to get those wristbands at the student entrance long before the game. So, this was our big chance to get those people locked in, and it sucks that we couldn't deliver them a big win.
  2. Recommending alcohol consumption to anyone who attended that basketball game tonight is a good suggestion.
  3. I don't want to be overly critical here. But, tell us how many times this year that we've successfully run a play with Kwan dribble driving to the hoop from 30 feet out? Or, dribble driving from 30 feet out, and passing the ball back out to an open shooter? It's not the in the playbook. Because it's a play with very little probability of working.
  4. I don't know. Kent was 7 of 19 from 3-point range. So, we didn't really get beat because of some torrid 3-point shooting performance. And that Edwin kid, who hit the daggers and doubled his usual point total, has been nothing but an average 3 point shooter this year. I think when you have to guard someone like Hall, some guys are going to get open shots. They actually beat us at our own game. They played the ball into the post to Hall on almost ever play, and let him make the decision whether to shoot or get it out to a shooter. It was textbook Akron offense, played by our opponent.
  5. It seemed like Utomi played a little more than usual, and Kwan played a little less than usual. I wonder if the actual minutes showed the same thing. I don't know. EDIT: Cheatham played 23, and Utomi played 18. So, I think we did indeed leave the hot shooter in there, and kept Cheatham on the bench, more than usual.
  6. Keith said in the Postgame that he thought Kwan had the best chance of getting a good 3-point look on that particular play. And he did. He didn't make the shot. I definitely didn't think that our Offense was going to be the reason for another loss this year. I looked at the play-by-play and Kent outscored us 15-2 through the first 8 minutes of the 2nd half, before Utomi hit the two free throws. That was the drought that decided the game. We battled back a few times after that and got tied or a small lead, but Kent kept hitting shots right when it looked like we might be making a run. It just wasn't our night.
  7. The University should keep the Olive Jar somewhere prominent in Buchtel Hall as a future reminder of how much money they wasted during his tenure. On his house, his allowances, his salary, the salaries of all of his selected assistants, and that ill-fated marketing campaign.
  8. No, but I think you just came up with a Fantastic Idea for the old Rubber Bowl.
  9. This is a classic. How about Singletary punching Linhart? This will get you all ready for the game !!
  10. Here's a great clip from the 2012 home Akron/Kent game. I want this kind of NOISE in the JAR tonight. And I want to see more emotional leaders come to forefront, like Brian Walsh does in these clips.
  11. Oh, don't mistake what I said for thinking that I want another close game. That 2011 overtime title game almost sent me to the Cardiac Unit at Akron General.
  12. That video reminds me of the way Akron/Kent games USED to be. I'll take an intense, chippy game. It's very entertaining for the fans, and will teach some of our guys that we have to match Kent physically in games like this.
  13. OK, apparently I am looking for a bit more of a cultural experience than you guys on a long weekend football road trip. You know. Things to see and do, and great places to eat, beyond going to a couple of college bars and watching students drink beer. A college campus with little architectural character in a small town on the flat plains of NW Ohio, surrounded by nothing but miles and miles of corn fields in all directions doesn't do it for my wife and I. Sure, places like Miami and OU are isolated too. But Miami is one of the most beautiful and tranquil small college towns you'll ever visit. And Athens has such historic appeal along with it's riverside setting and appalachian foothills terrain. But, I'm glad you guys like BG. Maybe if I was young and single I'd feel differently. It was always one of my least favorite destinations when I used to make business trips out to that part of Ohio years ago as well. I'd never stay there past a day again. Just my opinion and advice. Now, I guess I'll never be asked to write a testimonial for the Wood County Visitors Bureau. And I sure hope Storrs CT has a lot more to offer for me.
  14. Seeing that article answers a question, and also made me laugh, all at the same time. The selection committee truly fits the definition of a moving target.
  15. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2692739-2017-ncaa-tournament-bracket-latest-projection-of-the-field-of-68 Hate on RPI all you want, but it's still the primary metric the NCAA selection committee uses in selecting and seeding the field.
  16. I really didn't see this surging so quickly. We dropped all the way to 50 after the OU loss.
  17. And yet, they don't. Have you ever wondered why?
  18. You seem like you're trying to say that Keith should be so pissed off about his situation at Akron that he's ready to pack his bags and walk out the door. And you'd be dead wrong. Maybe it's how you want him to feel so he'd take the job?
  19. That was my point. A big portion of both school's schedules are pretty much the same (and horrible) from Nov. to Jan.
  20. So, because this is a station that airs their football and basketball games, suddenly their employees become privy to inside information in an athletic office 3 hours away? A stretch, at the most. Since you put this in ALL CAPS, I'm assuming you're thinking that he should be anxious to go there and spend 1/3 of his season playing Walsh, Navy, North Carolina Central, Western Carolina, Jackson State, Farleigh Dickinson, North Carolina-Asheville, etc. Oh, I don't know. Maybe a coach who's happy to be in his hometown, has been coaching there for 13 years, and would have probably left a long time ago if that was what "all MAC coaches want to do"?
  21. At this critical time in our own season, I really don't want to comment on this right now, but I will. 1) WHO is saying he is the top candidate? Someone in Columbus? Or, some sports talk people on the radio? And wouldn't the source also need to have knowledge that Matta is being fired too? 2) If there were P5 schools who wanted to try to lure him from here, and he was willing to go, doesn't everyone here believe that it would have happened many years ago? 3) I doubt that too many coaches who've had great success at a place they love would want to take on a rebuilding project at 60 years old.
  22. As one Jinx was put to rest.....A new theory emerged. I guess this is why sports people can never get any rest. There's always something to talk about.
  23. One of the easiest road trips to make? Yes. Would I encourage every Zips fan to do it at at some time. Yes. But, if you do it, make it a Day Trip !! Bowling Green might be one of the most boring "college towns" in America. If you are looking for a weekend full of entertainment, sightseeing, etc., to go along with an away football game, don't choose this one.
  24. I think it's been that way for awhile. But what I have seen that really gets some of these schools into trouble (including us) is that when they have some success, they start extending the contracts to try to demonstrate stability and longevity to everyone, and then they are in an even deeper hole once things start to fall apart.
  25. Yes. And I could say that same. You obviously want to believe that selections, seedings, and home sites are all a fair and objective process. Good luck to the Ohio guy if he were to attempt to steer the selection committee to put Akron in for more MAC money when the others each have their own similar objectives, and more importantly, the money-making objectives of the NCAA at the forefront.
