Just a few warm days and the Spicer Street Residence Hall is underway. Basement has been dug and some footers poured for the first building at the SW corner of Spicer and Vine. This site was a parking lot for the Infocision Stadium workers last week.

Seems to work fine for me using Google Chrome. Let's let it settle in for a few days. I doubt that this site format was built specifcially for UA. Most of the university athletic websites are hosted by one of three different vendors who support several different formats.

BG And Niagra are the only winning records I can recall!

Guess whose coming 2 da JAR on Saturday?????
ZZZips replied to FromdaBurgh's topic in Akron Zips Basketball Recruiting
Great to see the Game Changer's family at the JAR. Mom, you were really into that game big time. Zeke's attendance was documented in today's Akron Beacon Journal. The largest picture on the first sports page has Zeke in the background. For those of you who have not seen Zeke in person, he is wearing the black shirt with the white stripe on the shoulders and sleeves.Picture number 8 in this slide show is the same picture used in today's paper.http://www.ohio.com/multimedia/photo_galle...toryID=38289729 -
Fortunately there was no effort needed to demolish the $1,000,000 parking lot next to the building.

Just plain ugly. Fortunately only 6 Zip's fans were in attendance. Destroy the game tapes and forget it. Regroup and get ready for Miami.

The page cannot be found. For the Ticketmaster website, please click on this link. Sarcasm?Sorry, the link worked for an hour this morning. I copied it from the gozips.com ticket page. Ticketmaster must change this code regularly for some reason. This afternoon the link is: https://oss.ticketmaster.com/html/pack_sear...ed982374d3bb048

Interesting article that gives credit to the Ohio MAC schools.http://online.wsj.com/article/SB1230172898...eTabs%3Darticle

If Nate stays healthy and the Zips get to a 2nd game in the MAC Tournament in Cleveland he will set the Zip's career record for games played, surpassing Middleton, Travis, Joyce and Peterson.

Captain -I'll take the challenge....."How can anyone ridicule someone's contention that Waters is the best coach in NE Ohio?"Ridicule may be to harsh of a verb. How about disagree. Not being an engineer I may not be up to your level of statistical analysis. but doesn't shrinking the pool of data allow for someone to be rated best who is only average in a larger universe. I think Gary is doing a fine job., but putting Waters on a pedestal of greatness when you define the universe as D1 programs in NE Ohio is a pretty small group for comparison. 4 coaches is pretty slim competition. One partial year of playing very well at CSU is a short period of time. Does he only do well in NE Oho? Ask the fans in New Jersey. As for the Zips.... I do believe UA is building a program. It doesn't matter much to me if it is better ths Can't State, CSU or YSU. It is better than it was when KD arrived and it needs to continue to get better. That is "growing the program " in my opinion. Last night Geno looked like a pathetic coach and Gary looked brilliant. One night and one game is all it is.

I emailed Ray Mernagh and he promptly responded. My question to Ray was whether he had inside info or had heard rumors of a current player leaving the program that would open up the extra scholarship. He assumes that Jimmy Conyers will get a fourth year of eligilbility. He is well aware that we have no scholarship to offer at this point. His observation is that many MAC schools lose an athlete periodically because various reasons (lack of playing time, dislike of the coaches or the school environment, etc.) Miami of Ohio has lost one a year fairly regularly even with consistency in the coaching ranks and a predicable style of play. I asked specifically if he was hiding inside knowledge or rumors about a potential defection at Akron. He was response was "NO".So why did he (and recently Elton Alexander) being up the subject. Although I haven't talked to Elton, I think both writers are looking at the current talent pool, the addition of Zeke and they see a missing piece to the puzzle....ie a strong wingman. We can agree or disagree with Ray's evaluation but he is well aware of our lack of a scholarship currently and the large pool of talent sitting out a red-shirt year.

I believe those are the first pieces of the pre-formed concrete, as it resembles that going up on the west tower (the front pieces on the west side are tall, the next ones thin). What I'm curious about is how these are being fastened into place. All the grey stuff is concrete (refer to engineering thread on this website). The wide pieces on the west tower are the facia to the club seats on the fifth floor. The thinner pieces are the risers on the club seating level. The chair back club seats will be attached to the grey stuff next summer. Due to cost constaints all fastening is done with Duct Tape approved by Captain Kangaroo.

How many of you are/were Engineering majors?
ZZZips replied to ksu sucks's topic in General UA & Campus Discussion
Good thread. Engineers I like. (Captan Kangaroo and Zip Watcher please note the complement). PLease do not start a Law degree thread. Mike Razor's head would swell to O'Bama size proportions -
ZW - Well said....and thanks for the editing work!

The NCAA Soccer site and Gozips.com show the Northwestern game is in Chicago on Sunday at 2pm. So much for winning home field advantage.

To Gamechanger54 and family......Nice to see you in the UA section at the game. Since it was a school night, work week game with bad weather I thought the Akron contingent was pretty large and Zeke just made us a little less vertically challenged. It was obvious to me that Zeke is pretty well known in the Pitssburgh area. The large number of comments I heard in the halls and main concourse as Zeke walked by was amazing. Some comments were negative jealousy because of the commitment to UA but most were just proud of their McKeesport star.I'll look for the family at the NC A&T game. Again thanks for your warm comments to the Zips fans and for sitting with your new "Akron" family.

I've had the pleasure of getting to know Vincent over the last two years. He has sat next to me at nearly every home men's basketball game for the last two seasons and I always look forward to seeing his stories in the Buchtelite. Vincent has a knack for not only covering the game but also the emotional and personal side of the players. If every student at UA worked as hard to excel and overcome obstacles as Vincent, every student would graduate with honors in three years.Great article Vincent. I hope to see you next week at the JAR for the exhibition game with Walsh.

Two pictures of the white steel beam being lifted into position at this afternoon's ceremony. American flag was on one end. The traditional spruce tree on the other end.

G-Mann17 said: "I think that they will done with the majority of the steel on the press/loge tower this week."You are correct. Welty and UA have scheduled the topping out ceremony for tomorrow (Tuesday 10/21/2008) at 2 PM.

It's a little too early for me to get into the "role playing" guesstimate game. With so many new faces, I thnk I'll wait until well after the 17th to start placing people in slots. I think the most interesting thing between now and the start of league play is how the coaches will develop the new players. The amount of teaching needed with 8 players in their first pre-season camp is something most D1 coaches never face. Before any redshirt decisions or injuries we have 9 players coming into their first year of eligibility. The raw talent is the best I have ever seen in Memorial Hall or the JAR. Youth and raw talent. An exiting but at times frustrating mixture.

I totally disagree with the premise that the creative marketing done by UA in the last five years is a failure. Record enrollment increases for the last 3 years.Donations at record levels.UA getting more press coverage than it has had in prior years. The alumni magazine is the best it has even been. The communication of the "Landscape for Learning" has in my opinion been the best creative media production ever used by UA.Is it perfect? No. But it is the best of the universities in Ohio.
