Second round of conference expansion is beginning.
ZZZips replied to ZachTheZip's topic in Off Topic, Smack & Jokes
Well, that throws a massive wrench in things. The rumors were there, but i thought it was just fanciful thinking because the logistics are much too complicated. I expect the MWC will invite more teams on a reactionary basis in the near future. This is a ridiculous development. Texas Christian in the Big East?! The BCS should revoke the Big East's BCS status. They're simply not worthy. lol you realize they are ranked #3? not to mention, who would their bid go to? The MWC who lost utah, tcu and byu? I meant that the Big East is a lousy BCS football conference, not that TCU is a lousy football school. I just think it's an extremely strange geographical fit to have TCU join the Big East & reveals how desperate the Big East is for relevance/strength in football. It may sound strange for a Texas team to fit into an "eastern" league but the geographical spread from Lincoln NE to State College PA for the Big 10 is similar. I really think what entices all the similar moves is TV markets. The Big East has schools in nine of the nation's 35 largest media markets and will being adding Dallas/Fort Worth, the fifth largest. TV dollars overcome travel concerns. -
I've honestly been saying this for years. Don't forget that Linhart was a similar thing as well. There are a few questionable things that Dambrot continues to do that really hurt us(short leash on players, inability to figure out what to do with a center). He needs to start realizing it, and i'm sure he will. He did go out and get some athletic players this past offseason at least, so i know he can figure this out. Your Linhart reference and example is preposterous! If KD had such a short leash on Linhart and diminished his career at Akron, how did Nate: Appear in 134 games (#1 all-time at the time of graduation)? Score 1,023 career points? Record 186 career steals (#3 in team history)? Become #8 in career blocked shots? Rank #2 all-time in Freshman free-throw percentage? Rank #3 all-time in Junior year steals? Rank #3 all-time in Senior year steals? Make the 2006 MAC All-Freshman team? Become the 2009 MAC Defensive Player of the Year? Get voted the 2009 MAC Tournament MVP? Have one of the highest minutes per game average during all four of his years? That’s my case for disagreeing with your assertion about KD. I think KD distributes minutes to the players ready to play each night in light of the matchups at any given time on the floor. Nate was ready almost every night and relished taking on the toughest defensive assignment each night. I’ll await Roo44’s argument on Linhart’s diminished career caused by Coach Dambrot.

Dayton game - free stream on FSO website

ZW - Did you get an answer as to why McKnight is suspended again? -
The Zips classify this game as the first "Regular" season game. Millikin classifies it an "Exhibition" game. Can each school classify it differently? The following is lifted today from their athletic website: Men's Basketball 11/12/10 @ 7:30 PM University of Akron (Exhibition) Akron, Ohio

Did anyone else see what Nicely did on the end zone fumble?
ZZZips replied to akronzips71's topic in Akron Zips Football
Saw the same thing. Just holding the ball would have given us at least a chance to come back. -
The BobcatAttack board is nearly 100% in expressing embarrassment with the scene. I bet that every AD in the country started an investigation yesterday to verify that their mascot and cheerleaders were students of their university.

How many OU Bobcats does it take to cook microwave popcorn? Maybe we should use the money to buy them pre-popped corn in bags since they can't handle such intricate devices. Ohio U. federal grant to help cut microwave fires 8/11/2010 8:58 AM ET ATHENS, Ohio (AP) — Ohio University hopes to keep firefighters from running to the campus over burning popcorn or other food in dorm room microwave ovens. The school says it has been awarded a $388,000 federal grant, most of which will be used to buy 4,500 sensors for microwaves in the residence halls. The sensors can detect smoke in small quantities and will shut off the appliances to keep burning food from becoming bad enough to set off a dorm smoke detector and alarm system. University Environmental Health and Safety Director Joe Adams estimates it cost Athens city firefighters more than $2,000 each time they have to respond to a call on the campus. Adams says the sensors should help reduce nuisance fire runs by at least 75 percent.

The Alumni Basketball Players, coaching staff and the fan volunteers who help organize this annual fund raising event invite you to attend this year’s Men’s Basketball Summer Classic. This outing is rapidly growing in popularity so don’t wait to send in your reservation form which is attached to this thread. The reservation form is also HERE. In 2008 we played at Raintree Country Club and had 34 foursomes. Last year the outing was at Silver Lake Country Club and a record 45 foursomes were in attendance. Last year for the first time we had to use both morning and afternoon shot gun starts. This year the event is being hosted by Portage Country Club in Akron. We have again expanded the outing with full morning and afternoon flights so we can handle more golfers on the course. Whichever time slot you choose, we all attend the same noon luncheon and get to hear Keith’s prospective on the new players and the coming season. We have improved the event each year (while keeping the registration fee constant) and you have responded in record numbers. A new feature this year is having a caddy for each foursome (still playing in carts). Portage Country Club has offered this service at no charge to our event. It will greatly speed up play and you the golfer can enjoy the event without worrying about raking traps, hunting for balls, holding the pin, etc. A great enhancement that makes this golf outing extra special. The importance of this fund raising event is highlighted in the letter from Keith Dambrot on the registration form. If you cannot attend, please consider helping out the basketball program by becoming a corporate or individual hole sponsor. Sponsorship questions can be forwarded to Coach Lamont Paris (330-972-7788 office number or lparis@uakron.edu). Don’t wait to form your foursome and enroll. This is a prepay event with registration and payment do no later the August 16th. I will regularly check this thread so if you have any questions, post them and I will get you an answer. On behalf of Keith Dambrot, the coaching staff, players (current and alumni) and fan volunteers, thanks for your past support. We all look forward to seeing you at Portage Country Club on Monday, August 23rd. Go Zips! 2010MBBSummerGolfBrochure.pdf

A nice note on David Carducci's Can't Sports Blog about UA's response to the Jarvis injury. Also note that Carducci is reporting that Can't QB Morgan is out for this weeks Iowa State game. The point spread on this game is going to be ugly.http://www.blogs.dixcdn.com/kentstatesports/

Congratulations to Nate Linhart.........1. For completing his course work this summer and graduating!2. For becoming a professional athlete. Nate has signed a contract to play for the Furstenfeld Panthers. He traveled to Austria this weekend to establish his new apartment. When the season gets started you can follow Nate's team at www.panthers.at (it helps if you speak German). Below is a picture of Nate in his new uniform.Again....congratulations to Nate !

Please take some of your stock portfolio gains from the last 6 months and send a check to Hunter Y for $250K and he will let you sponsor the back of the board. You can participate in the design. When the money shows up the temporary cover will be replaced. A chance to see you name in lights. Stop moaning about a minor temporary situation at a great new stadium.

You may want to be more specific.Sorry, thought they were pretty obvious. Look at the top of the lower deck stands, looks like some large white panels being stood up but only part way down the stands. It doesn't look permamant and doesn't exist on the west side stands. Those are platforms. Assuming ADA seating platforms. But I don't know why they set them up like that.G-M17....you are correct. They are aluminum platforms that replace the top five rows of seating in the lower bowl. They seat supplier must prove that the regular seating can be removed and the temporary ADA seating can be installed as specified in the contract. If you look at cam1 and scan the lower bowl of the west tower you can see where the seat removal is underway to test the west side ADA seating.

They are installing the north endzone auxillary scoreboard above the ground entrance to the endzone building.

....and I thought the Flying Wallendas had been booked to perform on opening night.
