If the Zips guards could consistently hit a decent percentage of wide open kick out 3s, this team would be so unstoppable.
-
yeah it is. Weird for a broadcasted game to have absolutely nothing on at halftime like this.
-
Trust me, I love Enrique as much as anybody else on here. 3 out of the 4 other Zips on the court have been putrid offensively and Freeman has still been fairly passive on offense this half. Payton has even been off the court for much more time than we could have possibly hoped. He needs to be willing to take on the double team and fight through it if we want to start scoring again. We can't continue to rely on step back threes from Ali being the only offense for minutes at a time. Zips had 31 points with 7 minutes remaining. They have 36 at the half with only 1 made shot in that time.

I was saying the same thing as the announcer was saying it. Zips offense has fallen apart (luckily the defense is still out of this world). Freeman needs to demand the ball and make something happen.
-
Zips are lucky that WMUs big man couldn't hit the broadside of the barn with his shot.

I find it quite hard to believe that there is an even slightly significant group of people that are willing to spend $7 but not $10 on a ticket. If you can't justify dropping a $10 bill, you probably aren't going if the tickets were free. Which gets back to the bigger problem, that there aren't enough fans that believe that a Zips basketball game is worth their time at any price. The struggle is increasing the value, not decreasing the cost.

All I can comment on this topic is that we were having this exact same conversation last season. X was graduating, Scott, Ali, and Thornton hadn't signed, and a lot of people thought this season would be a rebuilding year. I remember people commenting that Groce would maybe try to leave for a better job while he had the chance. Now people are commenting that this season is the great team that is going to fall off. Just goes to show that you never know what the future will bring.

I am loving the high-low post with Ali and Freeman. That can be an absolutely lethal combo.

Zips guards are just nowhere near the level they need to be right now. There is no threat on offense whatsoever.

From my understanding, the last few years, pretty much since Covid, the NCAA has been very lenient on giving out waivers for 2nd transfers. All you had to do was claim some kind of hardship and your waiver would be approved. Earlier this year, they announced that they were going to be a lot more strict, but only after many players transferred assuming they would get the waiver. It is the same issue that affected Aziz in Cincy and the Kent WR that transferred to UNC. I understand why it is annoying for people who are losing out, but I am happy that the rules seem to be more uniform once again and it doesn't feel like the NCAA is playing favorites.

I really, truly, believe that it is less about what Bullock is doing in practice and has much more to do with how bad the other options are. If you remember, at the beginning of the season, Moorhead was very open about the fact that Bullock is not ready to play. I think it just got to the point where it seemed like he was the only one who might develop into something useful eventually. It seems like that reality is highly unlikely now as well.

Alright Jeff, way to shut up the critics (I was definitely one)! Hopefully that drive will reinspire the defense and we can make this a bit of a game again.

I disagree with bringing on Undercuffler. We've seen that he is equally worthless. How about Jankowski, Wasel, or Jennings? Are they really so bad that they can't see the field while we are watching this? There are 7 qbs listed on the roster (obviously 6 with DJ now out). If the qb play that we have seen so far is the best that any of them can produce, its time to dump them all. What a waste of valuable scholarships and roster space.
-
Terrible, terrible football all around. How is this a D1 football game?
-
I would bet good money that Undercuffler will throw an interception here. Hope I'm wrong.

One scary thought that has crept into my head is that, as far as I have seen, Billy Fessler has a much larger role in the offense this year. If it continues to be a problem, it is almost spooky how well that would mirror the situation we used to have of Bowden/Milwee. Two head coaches who are widely known as great offensive minds who hand off control to a largely unproven, young OC. It absolutely did not work out the first time, so let's hope history doesn't repeat itself.
-
Irons has not looked good, but I don't think the coaches will be too quick to pull him. He's coming off multiple surgeries, if they think he showed enough in practice to keep his spot, I doubt they give up based on only part of one game.
-
Personally, I think Tribble coming off the bench would be a big mistake. You want your 6th man to be a big scoring threat. Tribble will definitely slide around and play multiple positions while subs are being made, but I think he is best when the other starters are on the court as well, handling the offensive load. Groce is the one paid to make these calls though, so I'll trust in his decisions.

The future of televised basketball and football games
UAZippers replied to Spin's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
They gave the mls season pass away for free to TMobile users as well. I think that was a limited time deal though. I went on ebay and bought a code for $10 for the season. -
Are the stats at the JAR showing Tribble with 5 fouls? TV announcers are saying he is fouled out, but he stayed on for the free throw.
-
Tribble at the free throw line. Very late call and pretty weak, but he did fall down with minimal contact.
-
Akron is up at the half in what I would call a bad game for Freeman so far. Has to be a good sign. If he can get going, Zips will be able to control the game a little better.
-
Lyles hasn't entered the game yet right? I obviously trust Groce, but I feel so uneasy with 7 man rotations. Especially this early in the year.
-
Zips just cannot buy a shot. It's unbelievable how on/off hankerson and hunter are.
-
I've actually enjoyed these announcers. They are not hiding that they would prefer if WMU wins, but they have been very willing to praise the Zips when deserved. I really like the color guy, play by play sometimes is obviously pressing to find words to fill silence.
