From what I was able to understand, GT asked Dr. Green how this hiring affects finances at the university. The response was that talent is expensive, but pays for itself in the long run. This hire is more costly than the last, but Arth's salary is still on the very low side for FBS football. He mentioned that this hiring does not change the outlook from the 3 year strategic plan that was just passed and athletics is still expected to lower their hit on the general budget by $8 million. The most interesting aspect of the answer to me was that we are in negotiations with Chattanooga to have Arth's buyout be (partially) payed through a guaranteed football game sometime in the future. Its not the first time I have heard of that strategy, but I have always thought it was smart so I am happy that UA is pursuing it.

I don't think it is fair to say that the coach is "taking" guys. Many players sign because they want to play specifically for that coach. I'm not sure that is the case for anyone here, but if players want to come and Arth thinks they are good enough, I would welcome them with open arms. I really didn't blame players for following KD either, especially Dunn-Martin who made it clear from the beginning that he had a lot of loyalty to KD due to only getting one offer.

Game 9- Purdue Fort Wayne Mastodons

Stream is not working for me either. Listening to French, I'm not sure that I want to see what is happening anyway. -
Zips are in white. The offside was called on the final pass from the right to the left. They called the player on the left for being behind the defenders when the player on the right initiates the pass. I really can't definitively tell from that angle. The AR who called it should have had a straight-on view and it would be more obvious to him.

It was incredibly close and I would die inside if it had happened to us, but it appears to be the correct call.

You really dont understand why fans are mad at the 2 people in charge of the offensive gameplan that you admit was bad and did not put our players in a position to succeed?

Game 2- Youngstown State Penguins

I'm enjoying Riak's post game. Very slow and deliberate. He could develop into the most aggresive scoring big man we have had for a while. If he starts showing vision and passing, i might fall in love. -

our tackles are blown about 5 yards downfield on every single run. Just getting demolished right now.

An FCS game would be almost completely pointless, wouldn't it? Only 1 fcs win can be counted towards bowl eligibility. I guess it might be nice for player development, but I'm doubtful how much it would help at the end of the season.

1. I love having the wagon wheel, but four straight wins over one of the worst teams in Div 1 would mean nothing if it wasn't Kent, we have just been extremely lucky that our rival has been abysmal for a while now. 2. Like you said, our team last year had no business being in the MAC title, I still don't understand how it happened. 3. That best record in our history is still only 7 regular season wins, that is a let down year for many programs. 4. As for the bowl win and BIG win, I am not a believer that a single victory should factor into a coaches resume too much. I can point out just as many losses in Bowden's regime that shouldn't have happened. I have seen many people here post their appreciation for Bowden bringing our program out of the gutter, but doubt that he can lead us to the next level. That is exactly where I am. I do not understand how you could possibly look at the Zips offense this season and think they are even adequately coached. If you want to say that the failures are due to youth and inexperience, then that is the coaching staffs fault as well. It is their responsibility to make sure that they have players that are ready to play. I was not happy with three straight 1-11 seasons, but that does not mean that I should now be happy with constant 5-7 win seasons. The problem with increasing the quality of a program is that expectations rise right along with it.

Take Edwards out of the game and we get rushing touchdown! Not really hard to believe. I hope White and Sands get a lot more carries today.

Xeyrius Williams will be a senior next season, not a sophomore right?

EMU makes a FG as time expires to win at Purdue 20-19. Another year with a win over a Big 10 team for the MAC.

Its 35-0 at half. Exactly on pace for 70.

2019 Commit: Mikal Dawson (6-4 2G)
UAZippers replied to Blue & Gold's topic in Akron Zips Basketball Recruiting
It is kind of encouraging to me that Mikal committed before the season. The entire reason he decided to play a year of prep school (according to local news articles that I have read) was so he can show off to scouts this upcoming season and get some better offers. He must have really been impressed by his visit to decide to commit before he even played a game. I obviously believe that the Zips are a step up from Marshll, BG, and the like, but it is nice to see that recruits are still seeing it that way as well. -
Wow, he could be the missing piece that helps tie the defense together. SI has a great article on Walter here. I guess he didn't get the P5 offers he was hoping for.

Khadim Gueye transferring in

I see Khadim is from Victory Rock Prep. Same school as Deng Riak and Loren Jackson (whose dad is the coach). Quite the connection if these guys work out and we keep getting quality players from the program. -
Khadim Gueye transferring in

No. Unless one of the new people is walking on for a season, somebody else must be leaving. I have noticed on Verbal Commits, it says that Xeyrius Williams is committed without an offer. I thought it was just a dumb mistake, but that might be the extra scholly -
Obviously that list doesn't state if he received offers from the big boys, but he had to show something to even get looks from some major conference teams. I don't know if EJ Brown is Tyler's dad/coach/whatever, but he has a ton of tweets about Tyler's progression through this past season.

Tyler Cheese signed with the Zips!

While I agree with this sentiment, I found a couple studies really quickly. Here is one that states donation money is way up (more than double) for athletically successful schools versus the average university. Here is another one that found a large increase in enrollment for smaller colleges when they added or devoted more resources to athletics. My take away from this one though is that the extra athletes themselves caused much of the increase. Both articles are from 2015, so I doubt much has changed since then. I was not able to find studies about enrollment increases related to division 1 athletics from the past few years during my three minutes of googling, but there were many articles dated in the 2011 range that showed positive correlation.

From what I can tell, Roscoe will be coming in as a sophomore and Banks as a junior. Is that correct? JG is showing early that he is not afraid of looking to junior colleges for players. The three signees in this class is already more than Dambrot had in his entire tenure with the Zips. I've always found JC players interesting, trading one or two years of eligibility for someone who comes in a little more experienced and developed. This is not helping our messy scholarship distribution though.

There are about 10,000 more pressing issues in the city of Akron than a new arena for the Zips. Would I love one? Absolutely, but to say that Lebron doesn't care about the city because he won't help fund an arena is asinine. If you haven't seen his foundation is currently in the middle of founding a school for at risk children. He just announced a partnership with Verizon to bring more technology into a bunch of the other schools around here. Both of those accomplishments are more than just about anything else that has been done by any other person and it is without mentioning the hundreds of kids he has already helped.
