  1. I am not happy with the decision but I respect it considering there is a national emergency.  We can watch the game on ESPN plus or the CBS sports network.

“The best way to prevent a catastrophic explosion of new cases in the next few weeks, many experts think, is to break potential chains of transmission by preventing sick people from coming in close contact with healthy ones, whether it means canceling conferences or relying on individual decisions to avoid crowded public transportation or postpone weddings,”

Just cancel it and give the bid to the regular season champ imo

The Ivy League Cancels Conference Basketball Tournaments-   I know that this may be the correct thing to do but I feel bad for all the seniors who will never get to play their last game.  I think holding the tournament without fans may be the best compromise if they go in that direction.  What about the Cavs?  How do you justify canceling the MAC tournament only to have the Cavs fill the arena next week?

I think Zips fan block is in 107/108.  On the Rocket Mortgage map for the MAC tournament the "Home" bench is in front of that section.  Zips, god willing, would always be the home team.   I went through Travel Zoo for my tickets.   @clarkwgriswold  can be found camping out in front of the Verizon in Macedonia waiting to get his.  I prefer to pick out my own seats as opposed to the athletic dept doing it for me.  i saw ticket range from $13 up to $42.  $42 gets you in 108 or 106 and near the floor.

I also purchased my tickets on Travel Zoo.  I am a season ticket holder in the lower bowl and have been for many years and I am always upset when I buy tickets from Akron I always get sent to the upper level of the Q.  I have complained and my season ticket agent indicates that the seating is made by Akron and the big donors get the lower level seats near the floor.

  4. Tribbles second dunk was one of the best dunks I have seen from an Akron Guard.  He was fearless going over the defender and to the hoop.

Also, I was curious how bad the refs were and reviewed LCJ's first blocking foul that looked like a charge and Williams last foul that looked like a flop.  Both calls were good calls.  On the blocking foul Jackson did not move parallel but moved his leg forward causing the contact.  On Williams last foul he hit the shooter on the arm as he was shooting and it had nothing to do with the flop or sticking the leg out.

  5. Great game by the Zips.  Nice to see Williams make some 3 balls and lead the team in scoring.  Kent killed us on the offensive boards but some of the rebounds were deep rebound and Akron had position but went to the Kent player.  The refs were bad both ways.  They let the teams play and then called some stupid fouls.  The Jackson blocking foul was pure crap but the same ref made the same call against Kent so it even out.

With all of the turnaround from last season I did not think we would win the MAC.  LCJ kept saying "trust the process"  He was right.  Congrats to the team and to Groce for a great regular season.  Let's finish the job and get back to NCAA.

It looks like we were correct. BGSU is still in the #1 spot. Toledo also moved ahead of CMU in the standings so even if they end up 1-1 against Buffalo, they'd still hold the tie-breaker as they have a better record against Toledo than we do. In reality we need to finish we a better record to win the conference at this point.

I believe if we end up in a tie with Bowling Green we are considered co-conference champions.  They just get the higher seed because of the tie breaker and probably the automatic NIT bid.  (I remember this nugget of information from a prior year when we tied for conference regular season)

I don't understand why Akron refuses to drive the basketball. LCJ is a phenomenal finisher around the rim, Cheese is a dominant slasher, and Williams is a 6'10 forward with a much better mid/close range than 3 point game. Yet, the zips continue to fire up a 3 ball (5 for 35) against BGSU and--going 1 of 9 to start the game--against Miami. It's frustrating because I went to the BGSU game when it was here and they pounded the hell out of the ball established pressure down low and had the falcons at their mercy. They completely abandoned that strategy this time around and the result was clear.

If you look at our losses we always have something to point too. Not being able to finish against Kent, bad rebounding against Buffalo, and not shooting the 3 ball well against BGSU. Then the Toledo loss which, (in my opinion), we couldn't have played better. I think if the zips ran a more balanced offense and didn't depend on the 3 ball; stressed defensive rebounding and played their best bigs; we would only have lost to Toledo in conference play. I think we are still the best and most complete team when we play the game our way.

A lot of their offense is to slash to the basket and when the defense collapses to the paint to pass the ball out to the 3 line for an open three.  It works when you are shooting the 3 ball.  Remember, at one point in the season this team was top 10 nationally on 3 point shooting percentage.  We struggle when we cannot make a 3 ball.

It bothered me on Saturday that our first 9 shots were 3 balls and most were misses.  We need to get some inside shots and not shoot everything from the outside.  We need X man to shoot the ball well.  Would love this team to win tonight and at Buffalo and get that one seed!!!

Same stuff as Saturday!!  We start off 1 for 15 and X man cannot buy a basket.  We are not playing Miami at home.  Looking ugly!!

  9. The Zips poor shooting just continues.  Never seen Williams playing this poorly.  There is no reason to cover him from beyond the 3 line.  He is probably 1 out of his last 20 from beyond the 3 line.  I guess we were due for a bad game.  This is the worse.   However, I still believe we can come back.

  10. It is so nice getting points from our center position.  Riak and Sayles scored 9 points.  X man is in a shooting slump.  He made one three pointer and 3 layups on putbacks around the basket.  He did not force the 3 pointers and they were all wide open shots.  I was glad to see him pass up some 3 point shots in the second half and pass the ball.  He made 8 free throws.  We started off shaky with our first 9 shots all being from distance.  Our defense, lack of turnovers and rebounding kept it close in the first 10 minutes because our shooting was awful from distance.  Riak was on the post game and indicated that he gets one three pointer a game and if he makes it he can shoot a second.  I believe he has only made one 3 pointer.  Dawson also took an ugly shot from distance.  Ali, Dawson, Riak, and Tribble are a combined 2 for 21 from distance.  I hate to say this but Riak might have the best form of these four when shooting the 3 ball.  Cheese and Jackson had nice scoring and Banks had some timely threes.  Love the chemistry on this team.  We only had one shot clock violation and that was at the end of the game when we were milking the clock.

I'm glad to hear he's doing well. Do you mean season high? He certainly had games of more than 23 points when he was here.

Season high for for USC although they referred to it as a career high in the interview.  I knew that he had scored more points in Akron and I just made the same mistake.

  12. Daniel has been playing very well and had a career high of 23 points for USC last week and I saw him interviewed on a post game show.  Very intelligent young man. The next game USC lost to a ranked team but Daniel is now a starter and played over 30 minutes.  I am glad to see that he is doing well.  I think his decision to transfer worked out for both teams.  I just don't think LCJ could control this team like he has if Daniel would have stayed.  I believe that this team plays better without him because we are quicker and more athletic.

I'll never get enough of the gun girl.

I believe the refs called the kicking thing on a three point shot last night against WM

They called it and our commenting crew could not figure out the call and thought it was a bad call.  I am glad the games are televised but sometimes I cannot figure out what is worse, the commentators, how the commercials are 1000 decibels higher than the commentators, or watching the same commercials over and over and over again.

Yes, any team that wins their regular season conference title, but doesn't make the tournament gets an auto-bid to the NIT. The change came in 2017.

I was really surprised that this rule change was not made until 2017.  I remember the 2006-2007 Akron team that won 27 games and lost in the MAC finals on a 35 foot bank shot.  I watched the NIT selection show to see who Akron would play and they showed a clip of the Akron team and then did not select them for the NIT.  Akron had a great team that was left out of the post season.  I read that ESPN had the nit pick large conference teams in order to boost tv ratings and that was why Akron was not selected.  It made national news that we got screwed that year.

No doubt.  I think he's a great addition to the team.  Plays hard and appears to be a great teammate.  Unfortunately, he's in an awful shooting slump.  His last 4 games:

Western- 1-12 from the field, 0-6 from 3 point

Central- 3-11 from the field, 1-7 from 3 point

BG- 4-8 from the field, 0-3 from 3 point

Eastern- 4-13 from the field, 2-10 from 3 point

That works out to 12-44 (27%) from the field and  3-26 (12%) from 3 point range.  That's abysmal for a kid of his talent level.  I trust he'll find it as he is a hard worker and isn't shutting down like some kids do.  A kid like him needs to shoot his way out of it and I trust he will.  Another factor in it is that defenses have adjusted and are pressuring him at the 3 point line, but there's no reason he shouldn't be a 35% three point shooter and I trust he'll get it back.

We won 4 games with one of our best players in a shooting slump.  That says a great deal about the potential of this team.  He started the season shooting poorly.  He then shot lights out and now is slumping again.  He admitted during a post game interview once that the reason for his poor shooting was that he was settling for shots instead of working for shots.  It looks like he is back to that tendency.  His slump started in the Eastern game where they really pressure the ball on the perimeter.  We will need his shooting against Buffalo and BG.
