  1. Ok, did they shoot the T or not.  These announcers suck!!!!   The do not know the players and already given baskets to the wrong guy twice, do not know that KD coached the team and are talking about Hipsher having great success at Akron, and they will not shut up.

  2. He slimmed down and got quicker.  Toward the latter part of the season he was getting more playing time and then he let a guy drive the basket and did not contest the layup and got pulled and never saw the floor again.  I thought of that when I saw Reese not contest a layup last game.  With Riak and Reese in front of him, he could not afford to make any mistakes.  I think this year he would have had Freeman and Reese to contend with and not sure how much time he would have gotten.  Glad to see he is doing well.

  3. When is the last time we won in their building.  I know that I have gone to a ton of games there and it seems like I always come home disappointed.  I remember one game where they won on a last second drive to the basket and the Kent player took 5 steps to get to the basket.  I yelled at the bald headed ref but he ran off the floor and did not call a travel. (LOL)

I'm with you. I anticipated that Dailey and Currie would both be major contributors. Wow have I been disappointed.  I kept thinking Dailey would eventually break out but it's just not happening.

I said this before but Dailey has not been very good on the road.  I liked that he slashed to the basket early 2 times even though he could not finish at the basket.  I wish he would have kept slashing to the basket but he only put up 5 shots.  The starting lineup needs a consistent second scorer, like Cheese   I just wonder if Groce will pull him as a starter at some point during the season.

After we clawed our way back to tie the game at 61, we had 3 empty possessions on offense in a row. LCJ dished to Ali who missed a wide open 6 footer, to Dailey who missed a wide open 3 and to Trimble who missed a wide open 3. On the other end of the court man bun guy made 2 3's and Jackson drove it to the hoop for 2 layups. Game over. Unless some of the other guys step up we will continue to see LCJ be forced to carry the load. BTW, M Jackson dod most of his damage in ISO situations with Wynn guarding him during UT's run to put the game away.

Wynn had a great dunk but defense, rebounding, and boxing out keeps you on the floor.  He needs to work on those areas of the game.

Yes, I was confused by this as well. Littleson also picked up his 4th foul with about 6 minutes left. He's one of, if not the best, 3 & D guy in the MAC this year. Getting him or Jackson out of the game could have really changed the complexion of the game.

Basically, their 7 guys outplayed our 10 guys.  So much for wearing them down with our depth.  Groce has to get these guys to play better defense and rebound better against talented team.  No doubt about it, Toledo has 7 talented guys.

  7. Thanks for posting Huggins comments because that is the Akron offense.  However, when I watched Toledo I thought they ran their offense better than the Zips.  If you watch a replay of the game see how close they run off their screens and quickly they move off the ball.  Their offense did create more space for their shooters because of their better off the ball motion.  I disagree with BigZip that LCJ is a ball hog.  He does dribble a lot and took twice as many shots as anyone else but he is the only one that could penetrate the Toledo defense.  Dailey had a couple great slashing moves to the basket but could not finish.  Trimble is a one dimentional 3 point shooter.  Ali has some nice moves but is not a great scorer.  Freeman's offense is limited to the pick and roll.  Reese has some great post moves and really contributed last night.  Tribble and Dawson wer not a factor last night.  Groce's offense is to have the ball in the hands of his best playmaker and we are second in the MAC.

Looking at the box score we lost this game because Toledo shot the ball better from field 50%, from the 3 point line, 45% and from the foul line, 89%.  Also, they outrebounded us by 10 whereas we outrebounded them by 10 at the Jar.  I saw at least one or 2 occasions where Wynn did not box out his man.  That has to change.  Rebounding is about boxing out and hustling and we lost that battle.  I also would have tried to have their Jackson pick up that last foul by isolating him on defense.  He really makes their team go.

They are hot but they've also gotten way too many easy good looks.

55% FG and 43& 3-Pt FG for Toledo.

I thought it was better than that but they did start out cold.  They seem to be making a lot of outside shots.

  9. It took us 15 minutes to find our offensive flow.  If we do that against Toledo we will be down by 20.  Does anyone remember when Trimble was our reliable 2nd scorer after LBJ.  That has not happened the first half the last few games.  Ball State only had 8 guys dressed and it was clear that our defense wore them down.  I just wish we had a consistent 2nd scorer or somebody that can create their own shot besides LBJ.  I love the hustle on this team and they really seem to play intense defense.  We just need to develop a better offense to start the game.  When we ran down the shot clock in the first half that tells you the offense is simply not there.  Great that we can win when we did not bring our A game in the first half.

  10. I do not like Reeses defense on that drive to the basket.  No way should you back off a guy taking it to the hoop.  Glad to see Dailey driving to the basket and attempting to dunk the ball even though he did not finish.  No surprise Marshall has not gotten in the game.  He is at the end of the bench.  I like what Tribble said about the difference between college and high school, you have to play defense in college.  I did not know Ali was a scorer in high school.  Said his career high was 35 points.

  11. Love to see the players interviewing each other.  Much better than having them sit down with an announcer.  Great idea!!  Zips started out of the gate very slow again.  No flow to their offense and then we resort to the 3 ball.  I liked how Ali made a move to his left and sunk a short jump shot.  Even before he got hurt, Trimble was struggling.  Dailey is having a tough game and missed a breakaway layup.  Dawson once again is having a great game.  Got to get him more time.  LCJ has been dribbling too much but the shot right before the half was amazing.  Switched to the left hand when the guy jumped into his shot.  Hopefully, can continue with the great defense and rebounding and blow them out in the second half.

Weird stat alert:  Bryan Trimble Jr.

Just 20 out of his 124 FG attempts (16%) on the season are 2 point shots, including just one 2pt attempt out of 33 FG tries in the last 3 games (3%).

    Any predictions for today?

I'm feeling another nice outing for Michael Wynn.  He played more minutes against EMU (17) than he'd played in the 4 prior games combined.  I sense he's finally shaking off the rust and th staff is seeing what he can do.  Hopefully, Maishe's solid game is a sign of things to come.

    Zips-- 74, Ball Stare- 64.

I think I am starting to  see a trend with Dailey.  Except for the Kent game, he has had solid games at home.  However, he has really struggled on the road.

Maybe he should be our post up player instead of Freeman.

YUP, lets bench the 27th leading rebounder in the country, MAC leader.

Did not say that.  Move Freeman to the wing where Ali is playing.  Freeman could run the baseline while Ali is drawing everyones attention in the paint.  That is what happened yesterday.

  14. Glad to see Dailey have a great game.  Highlight for me was watching him smile when he hit his first 3 ball.  I know that he also scored inside.  Ali was beast in the paint.  Maybe he should be our post up player instead of Freeman.  He had some nice moves inside with some great fadeaway baskets.  I agree that the subs really brought the energy on defense and on the offensive boards.  We killed them on the boards.  When is the last time anyone said that about an Akron team.  It looks like these guys will be tough to beat at home.  We have to keep bringing it on the road.

  15. The game tomorrow is at 7:30 and is on ESPN 3.  I can just feel the excitement growing on the board now that we have won 4 games in a row.  We sucked against the zone in their gym.  I expect a better result tomorrow since we seem to shoot better in our own gym.  If our outside shots are not falling we always seem to  struggle.  Looking forward to another Zips win.

Fair enough.  That's fair criticism.  My hope is that Maishe has more dimensions but just hasn't had the confidence to show them to this point. He must be showing them in practice or I trust Groce wouldn't have him in there.  I guess that's the benefit of having more Cedarvilles, Malones, directionals and regionals on the schedule before heading into MAC play.  It gives you the opportunity to work those things out.

Thanks!  I do try to be fair.  The last 2 games show how important LCJ is to this team.  In the Bowling Green game, Dailey, Trimble and Ali were making their shots and he scored 13 points and had 10 assists.  Yesterday, those three could not find their shot and in the second half LCJ dominated the game and scored 32 points.  He did it by driving to the basket and drawing fouls.  He was 13 if 14 from the foul line.  You are not going to get to the foul line standing on the wing shooting the 3 ball.  Of the starters, Trimble (6) and Dailey (12) have take the fewest foul shots because they are not attacking the basket.  When your shot is falling, shoot the 3.  When you are cold, take it to the hoop and score, get fouled or create for a teammate.

  17. I have been critical of Dailey not because I do not like him as a player.  I see the Zips struggling against bad teams on the road and one of the reasons they struggled today is that you have too many one dimensional  players who only shoot the 3 ball and when they struggle shooting this team struggles.  Ali, Dailey and Trimble shot a combined 3 for 17 from 3 point land and 17 of their 19 shots were 3 pointers.   In the starting rotation you need someone who can  penetrate to the basket or at least try to penetrate.   I hope Dailey finds his shot but right now he is shooting well under 30% from the 3 point line and at least one of his 3 pointers today did not even draw rim.

  18. LCJ took control of the offense in the second half and he is a big reason we won this game.  Really happy to see Dawson with all that energy on defense.  He played a great deal in the 2nd half and deserved every minute.  I also thought that Tribble brought energy to this team that was sorely missing.  I have complained about Dailey before and I will say it again, I just don't think he should be a starter.  He and Trimble have the same game, 3 point shots from the wing.  When our 3 perimeter players are not hitting it is all on LCJ and Freeman on the pick and roll.  Dailey is also not a great rebounder and not a great defender.  I will be curious if Dawson can repeat next game.

  19. Trimble, our number 2 scorer has been quiet, Ali has not made a basket, Dailey has not made a basket.  We do not have anyone that can drive to the basket except for LCJ and Tribble.  Everything is a 3 pointed or a jump shot.  Need to attack the basket when the shooting is off.

  20. We live by the 3 and are just not shooting it very well.  Dailey did not even draw rim on his last shot.  We had difficulty against the zone and just playing poorly.  However, Western is shooting the ball well and has made some nice baskets.  Hopefully, our shots will start falling in the second half.  Like to see LCJ take more control of the offense.  Not driving to the basket.
