  1. 34 and 2.... Akrons home record since KD came to Akron. Sorry austin peay, dont think there is much of a chance. Look how akron tore apart a team in WMU who took care of nationally ranked virginia tech... and as always
  2. yeah he does pass the look test in that first picture, but man he must have grown alot since then to go from 310 to 341. it almost makes me think he wouldnt be very mobile or able to get off the double teams to make plays. maybe im wrong.
  3. Thats just sad to have such a nice facility and have noone show up because they arent winning, back in the mid 90's when they were winning champonships i heard u couldnt get a seat to their games. now that their on a slide noone wants to show. Hopefully akron never gets like that!
  4. I thought that lee was a very nice guy and more of a players coach. i had the chance to meet him my senior year when i took a few visits to the campus an he was always a class guy, so i think he will be great for the board
  5. ha ha ok. well if thats true then it is a great pick up for us.
  6. Mickey Baker was a great athlete, in his last season of playin football at Dodge City Community College he was a first-team NJCAA All-American as redshirt freshman posted 112 tackles, including 12.5 for loss, and a team-high five interceptions in 2005Jemall Benjamin was also a great athlete who i personally got to watch play in HS and he was a monster. i wonder what happened to get him removed from the team.DeAndre Descott received scholarship offers from Iowa, Indiana, West Virginia, Bowling Green and Ball State so he too must have been a very good athlete also.all of the other players looked to be scout team players who didnt really make much of an impact. If any of these players are on scholarship maybe they were removed from the team to get more scholarships for next year, because i seen they are already out recruiting heavy for next year. They offered QB/DB Dan Mccarthy from youngstown cardinal mooney ( amazing athlete, i have video on him if youd like to see) recently, as well as alot of local boys.
  7. i recently spoke with him via email and he said it was down to akron and he was waiting to see if illinois was going to offer, but he said he was leaning towards akron at that time ( and this was 2 weeks ago) it seems like it is kinda late in the process with NLOI day being a week away to have schools that are already recruiting 8 other DB's to offer him now, so hopefully he sticks with the zips. I will try to email him again later today to see how things are going and i will keep u updated.
  8. hw did u find out he recommited to the zips? i just looked at both rivals and scout.com an neither of them have it confirmed.
  9. I was just looking at the Akron roster, and it seems that we have enough OL and back up's and I came across this kid, I dont know him and never have seen him play so I could be wrong.61 Harclerode, Dan OL 6-2 330 So. Nile, Ohio (McKinley HS/Malone) maybe move this guy over to the DL. He is a big body that can be used to clog up that middle. this is assuming we dont sign a few more DL before NLOI day. Here is another guy who was a pretty good DL in HS but is listed as a OL on the roster who might be able to make the move.51 Bates, Elliott OL 6-4 295 Fr. Houston, Pa. (Chartiers-Houston) as a Senior in HS he had 64 tackles, 14 tackles for loss and 2 sacks, while playing double duty as an offensive lineman also.
  10. Howe left because he was smart. He wouldnt have gotten a fair chance at Akron. Seriously. why would they even talk about moving him inside to DT when he was only 6ft and 240 lbs. No i didnt forget that he left the team in 05, but i also know it was for the same reason that he ended up leaving for. Groza may have given everything on each play, but so did Howe when he was given the chance. Do you play for Akron and do u know everything that went on on the inside (not in public's eye)? And to answer your question... yes i did watch groza play... ive watched him all the way from when he played at manchester, cuz he played on my cousins team. I was lucky enough to actually play on Howe's HS team and i know that if anything is questioned, it shouldnt be his heart. He is a much better football player then Groza! When he did have the broken collarbone, he wanted to still play... it was the physican who told him he couldnt.
  11. yea, howe went from starting for Akron, back to playing HS..... whata dumby. Howe wasent one of "brookharts guys" so they kept giving him BS until he finally got smart an said it isnt worth wasting his time (and eligibility) trying to please the coaches here at akron, when they are just going to keep screwin him over. He started the spring out at 1st team middle linebacker..... then out of the blue for no reason he was bumped to 2nd string behind Mark Groza, the same Mark Groza who couldnt start the last 4 years while at Akron cuz he wasent good enough....... im glad Howe made the decision to leave, it was for the best of both him and akron.
  12. awsome, im glad to see them offering local kids, like i stated before. there is alot of talented kids playing in akron public schools...lets get and keep them here lol. 1 more guy i have seen play and think they should offer if QB/LB Chad Keppler from akron ellet. he is 6'4 and 200 lbs and gaining. he has been working with a speed coach to get his 40 time down. by the time the season comes around im thinkin he will be around 215-220. he has been looked at by pitt, conneticut, illonois and a few others. he went to a pitt game and was on the sideline during the pitt louiville game an said he liked it. but im sure he is still open to his choices.
  13. HOPEFULLY WE GET SOME OF THESE GUYS, CUZ THEIR BEING RECRUITED BY SOME BIG PROGRAMS, SO THEY MUST BE DECENT
  14. I WOULD JUST LIKE TO SAY THANK YOU ESPN FOR JACKING AKRON OVER..... AUSTIN PEAY? WTF IS THAT? CAN WE GET A COMPETATIVE TEAM THAT WILL HELP OUT OUR RPI AND HELP PUSH US INTO THE TOURNEY? IT DOESNT REALLY MATTER CUZ WE ARE GOING TO WIN THE MAC AN GET THE AUTO BID ANYWAYS, BUT ITS JUST THE POINT.
  15. you dont really need that indoor track upstairs when they just beuilt a brand new indoor track over at the rec center. students can use that track if they would like, cant they? so taking out the track and just going all the way up with seats would also be another very good idea if it came down to it.
  16. redoing the jar would be pretty easy, they can easily add alot more seats to what they have now. but you must first sell out the games at the current capacity then worry about redoing the arena to hold more. The openings on the floor level ( between where the students sit and the lower level reserved) can be done away with and add more seats there and have it like wrap around so that it is the shape of a U and then leave the one lower level open for the teams coming onto the court like they currently do. that could easily add alot more seats. and another thing about the JAR that is a joke..... the section for the handicapped ( upstairs) i always hear about the people in the wheelchairs complaining about the railing being in their way. can we not do better for them? i mean heck for $5000 i would design a new arena for them if theyd like...no need to go out and spend millions on someone to design it, the same goes for the football stadium lol.
  17. hey people i was just reading bout that wayne jones guy that people are saying should be jd #1 priority... and it looks as if he will sign with either cincy or pitt. cincy gave him an offer 3 days ago an he sadi that he will take a visit there before signing day to check things out then make his choice. looks like akron will be moving some of them extra linebackers down to DT like they tried to do Bryan Howe before he got pissed about being jacked around and transfered (and ended up having a great season for walsh....1st team all league)
  18. this is an article i ran across when i was looking at players who still have a year of eligibility because they never used a redshirt....... what do you all think of having romeo as a tight end, or a defensive end/ outside linebacker.Romeo Travis gave up what he did best for what he loved most when he decided to play basketball for the Akron Zips. “Football is really my game,” he said, “but I just love basketball.” His love of hoops landed the 6-7, 225-pound Travis at Akron instead of at one of many football teams that will be playing in bowl games this holiday season. “He really was more highly recruited out of [st. Vincent-St. Mary] high school for football than basketball,” Akron head coach Keith Dambrot said.Travis is no slouch on the basketball court, as his current averages of 14.8 points and 5 rebounds per game for the 7-3 Zips will attest. But he admits that this time of year, his eyes drift toward watching all the bowl games, and his mind toward what might have been. “I miss football every day,” Travis said. “It makes me wonder, ‘What if?’ I’ve been playing football since I was 8 years old, before basketball. Pitt, Purdue, Missouri, Connecticut, they offered me to play both, all of them. But I didn’t trust them. Purdue wanted me to be a slot receiver. Everybody else wanted me for defensive end. Michigan, they wanted me to walk on.” Instead, Travis leads a team expected to win the Mid-American Conference. The senior’s attributes on the court — size, speed, soft hands and a physical style of play — compare well to those of a football player. And there have been times when he has dipped a toe of curiosity on the side. “I went through a few football workouts here one spring,” Travis said. “But coach Dambrot waived me off.” Akron football coach J.D. Brookhart confirmed Travis has been in pads for the Zips. “I thought he might consider it,” Brookhart said of a tryout in the NFL. “He would have a shot. If he did it, he’d probably be better off offensively. Four years with not being used to the physical side of it could be a problem for him on defense.” While this is Travis’ final year of basketball eligibility, he could play one season of football for the Zips next season if he wanted because he did not use a redshirt year. Or, he could opt for an NFL tryout after this season, not uncommon for basketball players his size. Jai Lewis from George Mason’s Final Four team last season unsuccessfully tried out for the Pittsburgh Steelers last spring. The poster child for making the switch is Can't State’s Antonio Gates, now an All-Pro tight end with the San Diego Chargers. But Travis holds no such illusions. “I’m a physical basketball player,” Travis said. “But on the football field, professionally, I’d be pretty little. [Gates] had a football body playing basketball. I’m not built like that. If I were bigger, physically bigger, I’d think about it. I’d love to play football again, no question.”
  19. i recently talked to williams thru an email and i was told that his grades are all in good order and he is excited and ready to come back to akron.
  20. first of all id like to say great win zips. way to show everyone on a national stage that the Zips are a team to look out for. 2nd: i was sick so i stayed at home an watched the game today on espn2, and id like to ask people who also watched it on TV, do you feel that they used Lebron James name way to much when they refered to the zips. It seems to me that everytime they said anything good about the zips it always came back to lebron james. Dont get me wrong because i have met lebron personally and he is a great guy, but isnt it about time they let rome, dru and KD step out of his shadow and be their own person. I know id hate if i were to go somewhere an the onkly thing that ever came up was LeBron this and LeBron that. maybe im wrong. let me know what you all think
  21. man there will be a heck of a QB battle this coming season. i can see a QB leaving.. we have the 2 CJ's, Hakes, Rodgers. i hope whoever we have starting is able to move around in and out of the pocket and make plays with their feet after a play has broken down, unlike the QB we have had for the last 2 seasons... and as always...
  22. that sucks. both crouch and alleman turned down invitations to play in other "all star" games such as the hula bowl all star game and the north south all star classic. i know andy was invited to the combine, but was crouch? i know they will both workout for scouts on pro day ( or at least i think they both are) i wish them both the best of luck.. and as always........
  23. has anyone heard about how this game went and how alleman and crouch (i heard he made the roster but im not 100% sure) did in this game? does anyone know of a website that has video of it or stats?
  24. does anyone have any footage on this guy?
  25. its a good thing he is gone. how can you trust the guy as your teammate to help you out if you need it when you cant even rely on him to do the work in the class to be able to stay on the field.
