Go to the game! That's a horrible idea. I really want us to overwhelm them at their house. I remember seeing Akron/Can't basketball games at the JAR when half the place was full of Can't fans. Luckily that's changing, but let's totaly humiliate them.

What is going on in the MAC?!!
zipsbandman replied to Ryno aka Menace's topic in Akron Zips Football
NC State may not be the most impressive BCS team, and Penn State, as Paterno would say, may have gotten their "ears kicked in" today, but it has to give us hope that the MAC is definitely up for grabs this year. The defense that we have can shut some of these schools down cold. -
In other words, get your heads out of your butts and lets celebrate and get ready for Central. There is a lot of football left to be played. Central and Toledo are going to be extremely tough. Ohio is beating NIU and we have to play in their place this year. Miami took Purdue into overtime. Anything can happen and we may ask ourselves what the hell happened instead. So bottom line is celebrate this weekend and then buckle your seatbelts for a wild season.
-
I absolutely would have gone for the win at the one yard line. There is no way we win in overtime on the road with a questionable kicking game. I probably would have still said that if we did not punch it in. Good move by coaching staff.
-
Although you meant that as a joke, you are probably right. He is gone after this year. I wish there was a way to keep him for at leat 2 more years. That way a new stadium is on the way, and we are a little bit known nationally. Then we will be able to get a good new coach. Between football and basketball, we are in for a real exciting year! Forget about it and celebrate!

Well, if zipdad's description is accurate, the facility will be a two sided double deck style. That sounds pretty cool right there and you got to think it will be sizeable. Also, the endzones will probably be open so there is potential for expansion right there by adding more stands. I bet the large press box will be awesome.
-
It appears the wheels are turning on the stadium project. We need to keep JD at least long enough to sustain our momentum until the facility starts being built. That may be one or two years. From then on, I think we can keep it going as we will pretty much get the candidate we want.

Who cares? As long as he's an Akron fan! These are the guys you need to hate....
-
I don't see anything wrong with it. He is implying that we competed with Penn State the entire game as opposed to getting whipped 56 to 3 or something. Don't read too far into these things.

My thoughts........Hands down the defense deserves all the props today. The score may not reflect their efforts, but did they make some impressive stops and kept this from getting out of control early. In a conference not known for defensive prowess, we gotta be happy about this group.Special teams will be a liability this year. There is a lot of youth and it showed today. We have to be patient with them.I was not really impressed with the offense today. I had high hopes for them, but what I saw was failure to capitalize on Penn State errors that could have really turned the game around. For the experience, the oline could have done a better job protecting the qb. We have a promising group of receivers, but there is youth there too. Too many dropped balls. Getsy also missed on some. Penn State really kept our running game in check most of the game. We need to be able to run the ball.In all, good effort today, and no one in the MAC has been able to stop the Big Ten yet so we're all right so far? Well, it could be worse. We could be Can't fans.
-
I DO NOT want to play them. This game can really cost us.
-
Once again, the Big Ten is flexing its muscles. But I have to admit I really enjoy seeing Can't State get pounded regardless of the opponent. This is already turning out to be a fun year and we have not even started playing!

QB Matt Rodgers to Akron
zipsbandman replied to rocketfootball's topic in Akron Zips Football Recruiting
Once again...here goes....a couple of posts in no way, shape, or form reflects what zip fans really feel. Everybody has their group of outspoken posters.Thank you for the update! -
I don't know, but I like the guy. He seems to be there for the kids and understands what NCAA athletics is all about. He does not run up the scores on an inferior opponent. Joe Paterno will not overlook us.

Looks like many are taking notice of our improvements on campus. The honors college has grown. Looks like there is a huge demand for on campus housing too.Largest Freshman Class in 15 YearsAkron, Ohio, Aug. 28, 2006 — The largest freshman class in 15 years, an overall student body increase of 3.7 percent, more students living on campus and an increase in high-achieving students mark an exciting start to the new academic year for The University of Akron, according to President Luis M. Proenza. The number of incoming freshmen — 4,137 — is the highest since 1990. Also setting a record this fall is the University's Honors College with 388 new students, bringing the total in that program to 1,150. Among the new additions are 42 valedictorians.First-day enrollment figures show the total number of students at the University this fall is 23,963, up 3.7 percent from the 23,115 students enrolled as of the first day of Fall Semester 2005. Credit hours are up 4.6 percent, from 263,803 last year to 276,355 this fall. Official enrollment figures are reported on the 14th day of the semester for all Ohio state universities.Another quality indicator — direct admission into one of the University's degree-granting colleges — also saw a large increase: 965 in 2006, up from 760 in 2005. Direct-admit students are those freshmen who have declared a major and have met the selective academic requirements of a particular college. Nine of the University's 12 colleges have selective admissions requirements. Many factors are making the University more attractive to students, Proenza says, including outstanding academic programs, award-winning student activities and the New Landscape for Learning campus enhancement initiative, which has made Akron's campus one of the most beautiful and technologically advanced in the nation.More University of Akron students are living on campus this year, as well, reflecting a growing demand that has spurred construction of another residence hall due to open next fall. This year, 2,761 students applied for a spot in one of the University's 14 residence halls, creating a waiting list.“All University faculty, staff and students have done a remarkable job in moving our institution forward,” Proenza says. “We will continue to build on these improvements, creating a new paradigm for higher education in which we measure ourselves by the value added to our students' lives and by their success.”

Can't Sate Predicted as Mac East Champs

Ya, Josh Cribbs style -
I was in the band when we visited you guys two years back, and I was in awe as soon as I saw the imposing Beaver Stadium out of the bus window. It's a real thrill sitting down there by the field and getting in front of 100k. Your fans were awesome, and I tend to pull for Penn State in the Big Ten. I don't think they are making the trip this year because they want to travel to more conference games.

Nittany Lions' primary concern is secondary
zipsbandman replied to ZachTheZip's topic in Akron Zips Football
That's funny. I actually pull for your team and really admire what your coach has accomplished. If it makes you feel powerful to talk smack on some MIDMAJOR's board, then carry on. Being someone who has visited Beaver Stadium, a majority of the Penn State fans are class acts. One thing we can probably all agree on though......... -
I am Hearing Stadium!!!!!!!!!!!
zipsbandman replied to KeeprOFtheHous's topic in Akron Zips Football
.......ooookay...........so does everyone else? I think it's no secret that a stadium will be built but how far off? -
When I said Toledo playing OSU at Browns stadium is brilliant, everyone scoffed at it. BG is brilliant too. So what if the other team has more fans? Toledo and BG will have the last laugh when they are meeting attendance, and we, a sanctioned team, are still begging people to come to the rubber bowl. Whoever does the scheduling needs to get off the crack and start figuring something out because that is the determinig factor besides winning.
-
Actually, I'm hoping this attendance issue lights a fire under this administration, and the stadium project gets a little higher on the priority list. Akron football will never last in the rubber bowl.
-
I hope the tarp over the endzone is removable. To seat only 22k for the home opener is suicide for a program that wants to draw 15k per game. We will turn away 5,000 fans if that is the case. I don't get it. They must not expect to draw too much.
-
Agreed, we need to establish more of a tradition rather than change stuff every single year. AK rowdies is an awesome name, and it is a name that has always been used by students of Akron.
-
With no oline this season combined with panzy offensive playcalling, the Browns offense is going to suck.
-
Is this new administration the answer in bringing us to the promised land? What has really been done to show us otherwise? I know the administration is relatively new, but first impressions are everything, and all I know is we have quality coaches in basketball and football who still make among the lowest in the league. Where is all the marketing? Why is fear the roo not all over Akron...for the defending MAC champs no less? Why is parking now an arm and a leg? Is that a way to promote attendance? Why is there a goal to add another nonrevenue budget draining sport that nobody cares about? And where is the evidence that this stadium project is progressing? Moral of the story.....what the heck is going on here?
