  1. A football stadium would give the area much more recognition than some soccer stadium for whatever. If the zips can build a program we can make some noise on the national stage. College football is way bigger than club soccer or whatever. This has to get done. We need to get out of the Rubber Bowl if we want to see our program take another step. Our rival schools have a huge recruiting advantage over us with better facilities on campus. I'm hoping the University is feeling a sense of urgency with this.
  2. WE WIN! BIG WIN! WOW!I will say this though. We must play a complete game. We come out strong in the first but we always seem to fade in the second half. Remember how we got eliminated from the MAC tournament.
  3. Zips blow 14 point lead to ORU and now trail 4 in the second half. What a year this is turning out to be. We look like garbage in the second half.
  4. Which means you get the opportunity to be king of the midgets. If that works for you, then I guess we're all happy.
  5. Here's what's on my wishlist. Let's give the ozone a run for their money this year. Their cheers and stuff at the Q last year were great. They made Can't's contigent look as pathetic as they are. Oh and Count me in for the Nevada game. Our team will need full home court advantage.
  6. Lockeroom material for the rowdies....man i love basketball season.
  7. one more season like this and we'll be regretting that Brookhart signed the extension. Pure garbage
  8. Getsy is horrible. We cannot expect to win with his leadership and play.
  9. We need to take advantage of these week teams and get Bardo and McKnight in the mix. We need some big guys out there to fight for rebounds. Little Rock had too many second chances on the offensive glass. McKnight can really be a contributer this year. Bardo we need to develop and need to play him any chance we get.And does anybody else find it troubling that Jeremy Salee from Case Western Reserve was our fourth guard in this game? Is that really the best we got? If so, we're going to have the same problems with not having enough guards to rotate.
  10. i warned you all about getting too high in the preseason....
  11. 180,00 per year?? Cheap....there's a way to lock your coaches up. JD and KD should at least make 200k per year.
  12. How do I figure? Just look at their roster. Their frontcourt is bigger and more athletic than we are, and they continue to pile on 20+ win seasons year after year under Christian. We're pretty even at forward but we really have no inside presence under center. Singletary is a stud for them and makes our guards look like the smurfs. History proves that they've graduated lots of seniors but there is still no dropoff. They out recruit us every year. They are much more well coached than Toledo or Ohio and they will have their young guys ready come March. They are the team to beat in this conference. Hopefully the zips can show otherwise and prove that they are worthly of the respect that they are being given.
  13. I don't mean to rain on the parade, but people on this board seem way too high on this team. I agree they will be good, but we were just as excited for our bust of a football team. I hate to say it, but Can't will be very very good, and they can easily repeat as champs. That team reloads. They don't rebuild, and they are loaded top to bottom. Also, the preseason predictions are never right in the MAC, and this really scares me. What if Jeremiah doesn't fit our team chemistry that we've thrived on? What if our size does come out to bite us? What if we do not find that fourth guard and we're running three tired guards once again in the fourth quarters? I clearly see potential gaps in our armour. With that said, I like MAC basketball much more than football, and I cannot wait for the season. Maybe we will be something special, but I don't want my hopes dashed like what happened this fall so I'll take the wait and see approach.
  14. I see your point. I should have been more clear. The gravitational pull of The Graveyard of Coaches is much greater than the gravitational pull of Cincinnati. The mass that creates the gravitational pull for Akron is lack of community support and alumni support. In fact, if the mass of our lack of community support and alumni support was actually real, a gram of it could create a black hole.If you look at the history of our coaches, the future was limited for them after Akron. For all the talk about Dennison being a great coach, he went nowhere after Akron, Faust....enough said, Owens.......Division II.I don't want to see JD leave, but I'm trying to put myself in his position. He is a young man with a young family he is responsible for supporting to the best of his ability. I don't know if I would be willing to take that risk. I'm as pessimistic as they come when things go sour, but some of you sound like real downers. JD should consider himself lucky to be in a situation like this here in Akron. Look what LO, Gerry Faust, and their predecessors had to deal with compared to JD. He has a supportive administration who care about football. He's got the best practice facilities in the conference, and he's going to be finding himself in a brand new office once it is finished this fall. A new stadium is being planned as we speak. Not to mention he has an actual "campus" to sell to his recruits now unlike the random assortment of buildings and streets that once compised the university.Sure the fan support can always be better. This is the MAC folks and the 13 other schools we compete with have the same problem in that area. But, even in that area, we have come a long way. I don't really remember students actually coming to games my freshman year and now they come out in force in a somewhat organized section as the AK-Rowdies. If JD wins, JD gets all the support in the world. If he loses, then you see a dropoff. That's life for every MAC school. If that Doug Martin clown can get his previously winless team over there at Stark Community College to get their heads out of their asses, there is no reason JD should be losing control of his defending MAC champs like he has. There is no excuse for this. If he wants to go then good riddance. I'm not impressed. We'll find someone who wants to be here.
  15. You're not a zips fan if you don't hate that school. That loss still bothers me and will bother me until we return the favor.
  16. Zips lose 31 - 17 in front of 7k. Offense makes mistakes and turns ball over. Special teams blows it with botched punts and missed field goals. Stupid penalties will continue to kill drives, and our defense will get tired due to being out on the field much of the game. Can't should have been a wakeup call, but we saw the same crap a week after. Sorry, Miami is bad, but so are we.
  17. The firm architectural firm is designing the structure now and they said it would take about six months so once the trustees see the complete plans then they'll probably have more grounds to come to an agreement. Right now they have nothing to show us.
