  1. They dropped football already?
  2. Actually, I would be very suprised if this team was not better than this year's squad. Biggs was a big loss for us, but I think the guys behind him are going to be even better. Kennedy is a big time back. Getsy should be much much improved and hopefully the growing pains are gone with him. The o-line will be the best yet and will continue to be a strength for this team. It's all won in the trenches remember. The defense is going to be faster than what we've ever seen, and the secondary is stacked. We do need more depth on the d-line though. Overall, I like what Fleming has done with this group. I think we have one of the best coaching staffs in the MAC, and they are finally starting to get some weapons on the field. Nothing is guaranteed though as the MAC can be unpredictable and factors such as injuries come into play, but there is no reason for this team to shoot for anything less than the MAC championship game and a bowl.
  3. baseball women's basketball ooooooookay then
  4. Maybe instead of creating another expense with adding a new sport, lets up the salaries of our coaches. There is no way Christian should be making more than JD, and there is no way his salary should more than double Dambrot's.
  5. If we want to act big time and become a perrenial MAC power, we need to pay up. Facilities are not the only part of successful programs. We need to send our coaches a message. The thought of Christians contract doubling Dambrot's doesn't seem right. Dambrot can be just as valuable to us.
  6. Hixon will not get drafted. Everybody thought Matt Cherry would get drafted too, and he's still struggling to make a roster.
  7. Just some food for thoughtOne thing I'll give Can't props for is their ability to retain an outstanding coach in Christian. Looks like they'll be paying him 250k per year plus incentives. It's a seven year deal. It seems like coaching salaries in the MAC are increasing, as they probably should. Right now, Akron has two good coaches in JD and KD, and I would love to be able to keep them if we can help it. In Can't's case, however, they seemed to throw football on the backburner, while we are trying to field championship contending teams in both sports. Maybe it frees some cash for them to give a huge amount to one coach. We are probably going to have up our salaries to our marquee coaches in order to keep up with the rest of the MAC, but can we?.
  8. I agree.I continue to be curious as to why the discussion of Akron moving from the MAC comes up. Do we really belong in the Big East or even CUSA? Hell no. And if you think so, please explain why. We have one championship in football and haven't been to the big dance in 21 years. Under the current D1 set up, the MAC is the perfect place for us. If and when the lansdscape of college football changes, i.e. how "national" revenue is shared, (via the bowl system)then we may want to talk about change.....This discussion can come back in 15 years..or maybe never. We need to continue to take care of business in the MAC. We need to continue our 2005 winning ways, which we hopefully lead to better overall attendance, more alumni involvement, and more tv coverage which will hopefully result in better streams of revenue. This, of course, will will allow for bigger and better faculities to attract better and better players and coaches. Unfortunately, this takes time....even decades, perhaps. It probably comes up because a split in the Big East is inevitable, and it will affect us whether we remain in the MAC or not. I'd rather mantain the status quo, and build a great program in the MAC. It's a perfect fit for us
  9. How sweet would that be if we snatch this guy? They were really high on this dude.
  10. If we followed UCF and Marshall to C-USA, Mack Roades would eclipse the immortal Dennis Helsel in my book. No way such a move happens. It will be interesting to see what transpires when the Big East downsizes. I think that could/will affect the MAC pretty severely. That's why you see all these MAC schools are in an athletic arms race. Everybody is jockeying for postition when the Big East comes calling. Although, I think a school like Memphis would go first. Akron needs to be ready, as I don't know if we can afford more BCS competition in Ohio if another school like Toledo moves up and not us.
  11. He was offered by the real Miami....nuff said
  12. hmmmm, very very interesting, and I must say I would welcome that particularly for recruiting. I assume that Joyce has lots of connections in the local basketball scene.
  13. I regretfully say that they will be good next year and will challenge us. They were not even supposed to do much this year and look what happened. All they do every year is reload. There is some great talent on that basketball team.
  14. Check out what Ball State's stadium will look like. I would love something like this here at Akron.A lot of schools are stepping it up.http://www.bsu.edu/stadium/
  15. Agreed, that's a small time Can't State mentality. Our staff will play to win every game.
  16. We will not put up over 30 points at State. I'm looking for our defense to step up and keep this close. Robison is a huge loss for them. He was to Penn State as Omar Jacobs was to Bowling Green.
  17. I'm not the only one who thinks this is winnable?
  18. Once again they forget Can't State.
  19. I would egg buchtell hall
  20. Discipline is what separates the good teams from the bad teams in ladies hoops. The bad teams are downright depressing to watch, and that's why you get so much parity in womens' hoops. Kennedy was a sweet person, but did she really get in these girls' faces and instill any discipline on this team? Akron may need to consider a guy or a sheman like Summitt.
  21. Oh, you'll fit right in on this board.
  22. Welcome! Finding a good program like North Texas instead of some I-AA team was a pleasant suprise and one of the few good things about this schedule. Definitely looking forward to it. I'm sure we will learn a lot more about your team the next few months.
  23. Here is a way to look at this schedule. Look at it as an opportunity, a big opportunity. We have three shots at getting our coveted BCS win. We have an opportunity to face Toledo, the team that has defined MAC football. A win there would go far. We have an opportunity to finally bear the hated Redhawks in our house, with them having some key losses. None will be easy of course, but the road to the next step is never an easy one.
  24. Try reading the buchtellite. There were more quotes She was pretty pissed.
