  1. We need to win instead of laying an egg every time we get a big home crowd. We do that you may see your sell outs.
  2. Well to really put it into perspective. Here is what the University of Minnesota has in store for it's band.http://stadium.gophersports.com/multi_virtual_tours.htmltake a virtual tour of the band room to get an idea how much money these big ten schools really have. I'd say it's better than most MAC school's football practice facilities.
  3. This team looks so frantic and unorganized at times when it comes to calling the plays. CJ's looking at the sidelines more than he's in the huddle. Then we see a delay of game on a field goal attempt? Are you kidding me? It's the same thing every single week. Turnovers, dropped passes, missed field goals, penalties. I can't take watching this team anymore. We're very much stuck in mediocracy. We can't and won't fire Brookhart if we finish 6-6 with 2 years to go on the contract, and it's going to be the same thing again next year. We've had a bye week and rest and the same problems are there. I'm really sick and tired of coming up short. We have and always have needed miracles to win football games.
  4. I know how this book ends. Good thing the cavs are playing right now.
  5. Our fan base is growing. Our campus is starting to attract the traditional college student. I think the BG game proved me right. Even with the weather, I never would have imagined seeing the rubber bowl packed to see a .500 zips football team against an opponent other than Can't State. I don't recall seeing a packed homecoming game period in my time at UA. When I was a freshman, the thought of a student section was laughable. Yet we had an entire section of Rowdies with thundersticks on Saturday. Awesome We'd be opening up those endzone seats if we had a team like Ball State's. Soccer games at UA are like going to high school football games. Those are even packed. Also, zipsnation is like a bee hive nowadays. Lots of new posters and tons of new messages posted each day.
  6. I think OU's got it down when it comes to halftime performances. When will the UA band get a clue that they are there to ENTERTAIN and to get people pumped for a football game? UA and OU may be two very different bands, but if you ask Joe football who he prefers, more often than not it is going to be OU's style, and so do I.
  7. As a zips fan, I sure hope this never happens. But seriously, how can a school with half the enrollment of Akron and Can't State and a school that has a lot invested in basketball just jump right to Division I-A? Where are they playing their games? Browns stadium? I suppose they get extra revenue from the convocation center. And joining the MAC for them is a pipe dream at best. Akron and Can't would never allow that to happen so then where do they go? CUSA? The sunbelt? The Big Ten lol?
  8. It's a combination of all of the above. The defense choked when it mattered. The offense choked when it mattered. Our playcallers choked when it mattered. Why oh why can the BG defense make plays in the fourth quarter when they've been on the field 2/3's of the time and we give up the big play? Why can't CJ get through a game without making pivotal mistakes that cost us in the end? If CJ is the best Qb on our roster than wow. He's terrible. We're obviously not doing our homework on the recruiting trail. And why do we not pound the ball down their throats in the second half? This is getting really old.
  9. They must have been at a different game than I was at. I thought the atmosphere was great and even though we lost it was a great night for football. First time I've seen a homecoming with this good a turnout and it shows me that the fans are out there. I'm kind of surprised with the hating BG fans. I always thought they were the better fans of this conference when you consider Miami, OU, and Can't fans. I'm guessing that they know that they have a generic high schoolish stadium in Doyt so they have to pick on a facility that is two games away from being retired. Do they really think that we have the money to throw at a crumbling RB when we are trying to pay for a $65 million facility? To say we are obnoxious when they want to take pot shots at an older facility? Lame The MAC can have their laughs now. Also, how about that new 35 million high school gym they are building to replace anderson? They won't know what to say the day that Akron announces a new arena. Sorry BG, you're not going to keep up with the Jones. But congrats on a hard fought win that our coaching staff presented to you.
  10. I'm disgusted by this game. Why do we abandon the run and try to get cute when we were running all over this team with the lead to boot? I'm sorry but I'm not sold with cj. He looked like a deer in headlights when the going got tough and hisStupid pick killed us. And after that sack we needed the TO for clock and to get back some composure. What a poorlyManaged game.

  12. Way to go Toledo. As bad as Michigan is, ANY and I mean ANY win over the big ten's most storied teams is a bigger win than I can imagine. This is what our conference desperately needs. And to think that Toledo is not even the MAC's best team!
  13. If our fans would actually buy tickets and come to games Penn State would not be necessary. Penn State will give us a larger paycheck than 2/3 of the Big Ten schools. considering our budget is around 13 million, a half a million dollar paycheck from Penn State is a sizable chunk of our income. The reason this game is first is because the big schools want a tune up game before going into their season.
  14. Just saw THIS and thought folks would get a kick out of it. Great insight, as usual Cap. Here's hoping we get over that .500 hump for good this Saturday. See you all at the bowl, stop by and say "Happy Birthday" to yours truly...GO ZIPS!Hahaha only at Can't State. That Can't Statecks sign has been everywhere and the Rowdies always find a way to whip it out at a Can't venue.
  15. This is how I see it. Last week we lost a game where we outplayed our opponent and this week we won a game where our opponent outplayed us. We're even now.Oh and I have not seen enough :screwks: Now that we have the wheel we can find a home for it at the completed infocision stadium.
  16. Akron student tickets are sold out. They were selling general admission tickets to students when I was there. Zips will be highly represented. All I can say is wow. With fans like that who needs a rival? And seriously, why do they even bother with football anymore? Carducci does not have to include us in his pity party either.
  17. I just want to win so I can read their board for another week of Can't fans trying to "diagnose" why they cannot build a football team.
  18. The rubber bowl is a hole (literally) compared to Stambaugh. And it is next to an airport miles from campus. Even though they compete at 1-AA, they have had an advantage over UA for years. We are still one of the newer 1-A programs by the way when you look at how far back many of these schools have been competing at 1-A. Our football team even had to practice in some pasture off campus for the longest time. We definitely had one of the ugliest commuter campuses in Ohio and there really was little pride in UA, making it difficult to build a fan base. *Enter Proenza* This talk of YSU's attendance and how great they are does not phase me at all. Yes, they outdraw us a lot, but YSU has seen its best days while Akron's are still ahead. The info will be the best facility in the MAC hands down and heads and shoulders above Stambaugh. The area adjacent to the stadium when the dorms are complete will look stunning and will definitely attract more students to games. When you factor in our enrollment (about doubles YSU's) and facilities, our potential far exceeds them. Akron football has missed some key opportunities in recent seasons and the Cincy game is prime example. That has not helped our cause in the attendance area. But when we get a winner look out.Any YSU hater might have a better argument against Can't State. They have been competing at 1-A for a long time and really have nothing to show for it. I guess they put a pretty canopy over their pressbox (wow) but where are they really going? So eguins you are not going to get really far on this forum. We like football here, but if you go to Can't's board half of them want to drop football all together or go down to your 1-AA affiliation. You might get further along over there. Here it is:http://www.ncaabbs.com/forumdisplay.php?fid=474
  19. Its like jekyll and hyde on their board. Some are predicting doomsday and want to drop football and some think they are going to win the east. I don't think they know what is going on at this point.
  20. The big east stinks. Not one of these bcs schools are in the top 25 so far. Cincy is obviously a good team, but the big east is not the big ten and it shows given that a mid-level MAC team outplayed a "good" big east team. I knew we could play with them at home and we did. With that said, when you essentially lose because of a failed extra point you hang your head. We missed a tremendous opportunity in a year prior to our big move into the new digs. For a school that has aspirations to play in this conference in the future, these are games you must win especially when they are in reach.
  21. Our run defense is IMPROVED. I feel much better going up against run-happy Can't state next week. Also, I DO NOT blame JD for going for it on fourth and one in the red zone. I think that was absolutely the correct call when you are an underdog against a BCS team and your kicker cannot make a field goal as it is. I am disappointed at the execution.Bad:We snatched defeat out of the jaws of victory today. Cincy tried to give us this game but we gave it right back. The refs were not very good of course, but we should not have let this game come down to officiating. We missed so many opportunities. I'm sure I am missing some. Not being able to get a freaking half yard to convert that fourth down in the end zone would have put us over the top right there. Kicking game was awful. We're back to missing extra points again? Defense gave up an easy touchdown in the third and went through our typical third quarter lapse. Watcher is right. This team is undisciplined. The penalties (while some were questionable) were a back breaker and helped keep us out of the endzone even though we moved the ball on them. There is something that I've noticed. Injuries are part of the game. But we're losing guys every single game? Is there a trend here? Maybe our luck is that bad. We also have trouble converting on 3rd and fourth down at the goal line in those power formations. It's like we never get a good push. Are we conditioned??Not too much good to take from this game other than our improved defensive performance. This is a very mediocre football team. So far, we've beaten crap but cannot get over the top when playing decent football teams. A win today would have convinced me that maybe things are looking up for JD's team and we can win the tougher game. Lucky for JD, fans are fickle and coming back with the Wagon Wheel would come a long way in appeasing the fan base. We loose next week I say get Akron a seat on the coaching carousel.
  22. I do not think we are overstating student turnout with this new facility. Akron is becoming more of a residential campus. You put more students on and around campus and suddenly there is more to do. You get more activity in the downtown bars, aeros games, house parties, etc. Also, don't forget private developers building student housing downtown. So while the population of students increases due to more dorms, there is a huge amount of students living in houses and apartments around campus already. Most of the students I talk to live in housing around campus and I have heard several say they would more likely catch a game or two if the zips played on campus. Lets face it. The bowl is an embarrassment. It's not the best place to watch a game especially when it is empty and you can say the same about the JAR. If we put a product on the field and schedule opponents like Indiana, the students will be well represented at games. Heck, I cannot even recall ever seeing a student section at the Bowl my Freshman year. It has come around.
  23. It seems to me that UA knows exactly what it's doing in order to put itself in a position to be considered. I think the Info will be a great place to watch a game. I walked by it today and the place looks huge even in its early stages of construction. If you expand it in a few years no MAC stadium comes close. They know they need butts in the seats and create a division I football atmosphere for fans attending a game. So what will they do to help that? They'll surround the stadium by dorms housing close to a thousand students. That complex will be one of a kind when it is all done. And if anyone is wondering where to tailgate. Phase I of the green space has been completed and it is a big open area to tailgate. Hopefully we can win in football this year to gain more excitement for the program. All that is missing facilities wise is a new arena. We know the JAR does not cut it. Dambrot seems to think that is a matter of when. And finally, Louis Proenza is our president. It's obvious he has his sight set on the Big East. It would go a LONG way in enhancing the reputation of the university. Lets put it into perspective. Our rival builds a canopy on its stadium's press box and builds a new scoreboard, but compare it to what we are doing.
  24. Didn't see much - check that, ANY - Zips gear this morning either. And I never do. Ever. You want to talk about frontrunners? Why is it that the basketball team consistently contends for the MAC Title, yet we struggle to fill the JAR? That is, until the Can't game and MAC Tournament, when all of the "die-hard" fans come out all of the sudden. Why is it that the football team has never had good attendance, even the year they won the MAC Title? The biggest Zips crowd I saw was the bowl game, when all of the "die-hards" who couldn't travel 15 minutes to the Rubber Bowl made the trip to Detroit. This isn't to say the people on this board are frontrunners...absolutely not true. This group is the core of the Akron Zips fan base IMO, and would follow these teams no matter what. But as a whole? Zips "fans", especially the student body, might be some of the biggest frontrunners in the state of Ohio. As BuckZip pointed out, OSU sells out their games every year, regardless of how well the Buckeyes are predicted to finish or how well the season is going. Frontrunners? I call that team loyalty. But many here are bitter. Bitter that OSU's football program will always be better than Akron's. That 99 times out of 100, OSU will have first shot at the better recruit. That local media covers OSU a ton (remember too - they cover what the majority of readers want). That they consistently sell out home game after home game. So when OSU gets drilled on the road by the #1 team in the nation, many will jump at the chance with a "Ha! They got beat!". They'll bash the program for being overrated, they'll bash the fans for being frontrunners. And they'll block out that the Zips got shelled by Ball State, at their home opener, in front of 9,000 people. Maybe that "die-hard" fan base will come out again if they make it to another bowl game...who knows. In closing, remember this. For the fan base to grow, "casual" fans must attach themselves to the Zips. Many of those casual fans currently cheer for OSU, not because they are a frontrunner, but because that's what they grew up watching, and because it's the only team they've had an attachment to. And many of you bash them, calling them frontrunners as our team draws 9,000 to a home opener, or making fun of OSU losing to the #1 team on the road as Akron loses to Ball State at home.Boy..., if I wasn't a Zips fan, that'd sure make me want to join your fan base. Bitterness, jealousy, bashing someone for following a team. That'll draw em in...Instead of all of that, why not invite them to a game? Let them see our product on the field. Let them enjoy a Zips tailgate. Let them meet the great, knowledgable fans that we have. Let them get a picture with Zippy, chant Can't State sucks, or cheer and sing to Blue and Gold. THAT is how our fan base will grow...getting people to see firsthand how great of a school this is. NOT by continuing to move on with our noses in the air and chips on our shoulders. And the reason the zips draw 9000 fans at a game and will always have trouble building a fanbase and program is because of the land grant down south. I want to get into the Big East for crying out loud. Who's to say we couldn't do it if our own students and alumni would support their alma mater, but they don't. With this OSU love fest we'll have a lot of trouble making a case if there is a split. Really, I have no reason to dislike OSU, and they really do have something great going on down there, but I am sick and tired of seeing more Buckeye crap on campus than Akron. The OSU fans on this board are great zip fans who know just as much about the team as any of us. I wish there were more OSU fans like Buckzip and sgm who will actively support their alma mater, and if more were like them maybe I would pull for the Buckeyes right along with them, but OSU DOES affect us and our fellow MAC brethren. I pull for any MAC school who plays them because of the effect it can have on our program. Can't State can take a hike though.
  25. You lose in the MAC you draw flies. It's simple. I can assure you that if the basketball team was this bad our average attendance numbers would be in the hundreds.
