He left it in reverse and slammed on the gas

Wow, that's unbelievable. Just goes to show you how bad BG is. Edit: Shotgun formation standing in the end zone. Can't make this up.

It's mind blowing how often this happens with this clown. At least twice a game. So unprepared. So amateurish. So pathetic.

Screen on 3rd and a mile. Glad we came to win today. Kato sucks. Biggest bust in the history of Akron football recruiting.

Watts is so bad. Feeney is worse. 7-0 before all the fans even get to their seats.

We're so excited we can hardly think of anything to say

I remember a simpler time a few weeks ago. Akron was kicking Temple's tail feathers 14-0, Ohio was losing to Duquense at home, BG was looking a bit improved but still terrible. My dumb behind was beside myself with joy, counting all of the wins the mighty Zips were going to rack up this year. I began thinking about all the fun road trips throughout the year in my head, circling the easy drive to BG as a big chance to move to 4-2, 2-0 in MAC play. I could taste the Campus Pollyeyes' world famous stuffed breadsticks. Then it all came crashing down. Same sorrow, same misery, same God-awful coach speak. The only thing that could make those pressers worse would be Arth getting players' names wrong. I'm just going to stay home this weekend and watch hopefully the whole game. If the deficit reaches 21 points in the first half, I'll find another game to watch. Hell, I may even go check out the dump in Portage County for fun in the evening. Has anyone ever said that before? Akron football got me like...

ND is lucky to have played in that stadium in Winston-Salem. I visited the area and stopped by once, as a fan that's used to MAC-sized stadiums, I absolutely LOVED what I saw. And considering it is less than a 7 hour drive from Akron, it would be a perfect type of money game for Akron to have on the schedule. And by the looks of it, it is kind of like P5 Infocision. Imagine if Akron could provide a similar football experience in a beautiful facility, showcasing the best the university has to offer to the community while providing a winning product. It's a now 12-year dream I have. There's so much potential, and to think another *hopefully* successful rebuild would delay seeing it a few more years still.

I have heard mixed things and I greatly appreciate the insight, thank you!

I'll throw a couple of names I find interesting out there. I don't necessarily expect them to be guys that would come here, but considering the state of everything at Akron from the football program being a hot mess to the University itself being its own hot mess, I have no idea what direction we could go with this. There are still 7 games left in this season anyway. Nick Caley--New England Patriots TE coach. John Carroll guy (which pretty much turns me off) was a GA here during the Brookhart years. He's served as an assistant at a couple P5s, and has been with the Patriots for 6 years. He's not a guy you hear about too often, at least I haven't in any Akron circles. Bryan Gasser--Akron OC. If the U was looking to save money with this hire, this may be the route to go. DISCLAIMER: This is probably not a good idea. But here's my thinking. He has no connection to Arth other than he has worked with him since 2019. Basically, he isn't one of these cronies that are a cancer. And after the disastrous 2019 season, Arth took away the playcalling from Zagorski and turned it over to Gasser and I think most people would agree, it has gotten a good amount better. He's got a nice resume that is littered with success at Toledo and Iowa State with Campbell. If Gasser was the OC in the Bowden years instead of Milwee, those teams would have been much better. But ultimately, house will probably (rightfully) be cleaned and Gasser will put Akron in the rearview. Some kind of successful JUCO head coach--My thinking here is that they will be able to manage the personalities you may need to recruit in order to build something here, and they are used to being in programs that have absolutely no money. Can you get Teon Dollard and make him behave as well? That's so hard to do at Akron, and the "border" of Exchange St. is so crucial for both the school and the program. That mess over there is what's holding everything back right now. Why would a good player's parents want to send him to Akron when you can just as well send him to Kent where none of that crap is going to be an issue? Sure, this is much more of a university issue, but I'm not sure I trust anyone LESS than Tom Arth to deal with something like that. Pardon the long-windedness. I'm pretty much at a loss when it comes to this topic right now. I love Akron with all of my heart and soul, and I can't even say I'd want to coach at Akron right now considering what's going on with the program and university. Getsy or Charlie would be absolute home runs, but I'm afraid those are just fantasies at this point. Akron isn't good enough for its most successful alums. Reality hurts. Hope I'm wrong.

Last time around, the finalists were Arth, Ivin Jasper (Navy OC), and Stan Drayton (Texas RB at the time). I would love to have been a fly on the wall in whatever hotel conference room it was that the decision was made among the hiring committee. I get the whole NeO thing, but at the time Arth had proven that he was a shaky D1 coach at best. I would need to take some time to do research on who I think would be a decent candidate or realistic candidate, as the present conditions both in the program and university as a whole affect what that list might look like. Hell, Arth hasn’t even been fired yet and Lord knows when he even will be.

There’s really not a ton to say about that game today. All I could do as the game was so obviously slipping away was laugh and say to me friends “do you have any idea how bad the team they’re about to lose to is?” Honestly, I don’t even care about Arth at this point. He very obviously wasn’t ready for this level and he just put his name in the bin and ended up getting paid. Good for you buddy. And good for all of your John Carroll buddies too. The football program is pathetic. Simple as that. 4-29 since beating Northwestern and nearly zero improvement in 3 seasons of this coaching staff. Every time this happens, the list of quality candidates diminishes more and more. Why would anyone worth a damn want to coach at Akron right now? Enrollment is plummeting, budget is plummeting, you’re starting at the very bottom with nothing to hang your hat on, it’s just pathetic. Meanwhile, Kent, which is a football graveyard in every sense of the term, is now 1-0 in MAC play as the preseason MAC East favorite after a win on homecoming day. That makes me want to pull my hair out. In the past, we could at least say they sucked too. They may not be the football gods they think they are, but they’re heads and shoulders better than Akron. And it’s a dump. That should pee everyone at Akron off. There are so many discussions to be had about this disaster. As used to bad football as I’ve become, it just keeps getting worse and worse as the time passes. I think a lot of us saw this coming but hoped like hell it wouldn’t and denied that it would. But here we are. 7 MAC games left, all against much better teams than that. Shameful. Disgraceful. Basketball can’t come soon enough. I love you, Coach Groce. Thank you giving us all hope in Akron and something to be excited about.

At this point, I know Guthrie has seen enough. As for the buyout in this climate? Boy that’s a tough situation for a brand new, new-to-football AD.
-
Pardon my math, it may be 4. One each by the previous two staffs and two by this one. Thinking off the top of my head. Just dejected and disappointed.

About to be 0-8 in the MAC for the third time in 11 seasons.

2021-2022 Akron Zips Basketball- Looking Forward
LoyalZIP replied to clarkwgriswold's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
I like this. A lot. I'm hoping and expecting for a much more balanced offensive attack, and Castaneda and Walton's additions to the starting lineup should provide that. I also echo the optimism on depth. Once Wynn got his feet wet, he was a big contributor. And as I've said before, Dawson has an amazing physique and he can do a bit of everything. In this program, the sky is the limit for what he can do. I'm curious to see what roles the freshmen fill on this team. And I'm really excited to see what Aziz looks like. Can't wait!!! -
The best in the business.

I actually don't mind the Script Akron on the basketball uniform, and while I don't love the font of the numbers and the huge trim stripes, I'm cool with that new navy jersey. I'm a big fan of the black jerseys we got last year, though they would look a lot better on a navy base. However, on the football helmets, I hate it. Hard to read and doesn't look like anything. I miss the big fat Z decals or the Fear the Roo logo w/ the numbers that they wore a few times. Sexy as hell.

Thank you for the insight! I tend to agree that QB isn't necessarily the problem (looking at you, OL) but each one brings a different thing that could help. Kato is experience and the ability to be a great, proven QB, though horribly inconsistent. Irons is our best shot because he can work around the line, and Gibson is a decent game manager for what he is. He does some boneheaded stuff at times, but has a kick of agility for when the pocket collapses. Ohio isn't very good up front, so hopefully this can be a game like last year where we can establish the run and control the game to an extent, assuming the D doesn't get torched.

Welcome! As rough as the football has been for most of our lifetime's as Zips fans, it's still some of the most fun we have! Lot 9 and 10 are definitely the best for tailgating. I'm not sure how passes are distributed for these lots for non-season ticket holders, so giving the ticket office a call before Saturday wouldn't be a bad idea. You'll have a great time, Go Zips!
