  1. The most interesting thing is the suits are only going to grow and for good reason. The Supreme Court has told everyone involved there needs to be a collective bargaining agreement and a meeting hasn't even been set to discuss.
  2. The CFP continues. The buzz is amazing. I mean, I can't wait to see how bad Notre Dame blows out Georgia with a back-uo QB. That's the only interest I have. PSU is going to kill BSU. Texas will dismantle ASU. OSU vs Oregon will somehow turn into a blowout, I'm just not sure which way and I don't care because they already played this year. Are there any other sports on TV New Year's Day?
  3. Yes. It's a volunteer position now.
  4. Miami wins their bowl game against a well known G5 team. Again, I think losing bowl games doesn't hurt a program, but winning can be used to gain traction in recruiting. The MAC is representing itself well this bowl season.
  5. They have already made that decision. They don't care.
  6. Hard to say. It depends on what P4 requires. Remember, we're talking about professional football now. There are some schools that simply cannot compete in football at highest level. In reality, there are more P4 schools than NFL teams and far fewer capable of winning the championship. They are all either in the Big Ten or SEC. There could be a professional league of affiliated universities as small as 30 teams. 20 teams would probably be enough and that's probably ten too many. There could be a situation where teams like Cal, Stanford, Northern, Duke ,Wake Forest, etc wouldn't mind playing in a lower division if they could maintain their conference affiliation for other sports at the highest level. Not every FCS team would want to compete against even MAC level schools, but some could compete very well. What I'm certain of is nobody really knows what to future holds. Does anyone know a television executive what is going to happen? They are the ones controlling things.
  7. USC vs A & M = Awesome More bowls please. I'd say less playoffs, but I can't imagine being less interested. Maybe in some strange way getting those 12 teams out of the bowl picture has made the bowls better. Seriously, other than people who profit off of college football, who exactly was clamouring for an expanded playoff?
  8. Tech and Vandy was another great game. The Navy game was awesome in front of a packed stadium. Bowls mean something to a lot of people. I can't believe college football is committing suicide so television executives whe don't have the NFL will have something to show on their network.
  9. That's not what I see. I don't give a flying crap if players skip games or not. I'll take the non quitters. I see players competing hard and fans having a fun time around the holidays. There is not only nothing wrong with that, but it is awesome and something our society needs more of. The games mean something to the players students alumni fans and general community around their schools.
  10. I'm enjoying games no being broadcasted with Herbstreit as the commentator.
  11. I don't put much stock in bowl outcomes, but love watching them. Toledo played hard and with a lot of pride. The one thing the TP has done is narrow the gap between top level MAC programs and mid)low level ACC\Big 12 programs.
  12. A good article about why the CFP is and has been so bad. It's really about college football in general. There are loads of blowouts every weekend. https://slate.com/culture/2024/12/college-football-playoff-blowouts-reactions-paul-finebaum-lane-kiffin.html
  13. Pleasing everyone isn't the point of the twelve team playoff. The point is to please television executives who want to sell more advertising time geared towards drunks and degenerate gamblers. They are the ones running college football. Anyone who sat around yesterday watching all twelve quarters of that garbage could only fall into one of those two categories. It was utter trash.
  14. Next week, an idiot with a microphone will try to convince you that the only way to improve what is a horrible first round of the CFP is to expand it to 16 teams. Remind the idiot that this OSU game is exactly what would have happened anyhow. We aren't watching the next evolution of college football, we are watching the collapse.
  15. How tedious has college football gotten? The Steelers game started 30 minutes after the Clemson game. When the Steelers game ended there was 1:47 left in the Clemson game.
  16. I think you are right. That's why it is becoming increasingly difficult for me to watch. I don't think it's going to get better either because it is not institutionalized for parity and it is run by TV executives.
  17. The problem in college athletics is the blueprint for the P4 conferences being applied to G5. The MAC etc simply isn't set up to be successful and the divide is going to become greater because the business model requires more money than we will ever be able to accumulate. In fact, there are a lot of schools in P4 who can never be successful at football.
  18. Game 1 of the new playoff is over. It was a bit painful to watch, but since there isn't much else on TV, I guess the best thing I can say is it was better than nothing. It was never close and the level of play wasn't very good. Please don't tell me the score was close. College is now pri football. If a pro football team loses by 10 points, it's a lot. Indiana is not one of the 12 best teams and never had a serious shot. In closing, thank God the NFL is on today.
  19. That's a great idea. It doesn't even have to be huge. Harris Teeter has a small two story store in uptown Charlotte. It's walkable for a lot of people and serves basic grocery needs. I'm sure in the winter months in Akron an enterprising person could come up with some kind of delivery service for the store. I think Uber already offers services like this.
  20. They don't have a different definition. They just aren't willing to reach the level necessary. It's why they will struggle to find success in the TP era. It's also probably why I may give up my season tickets the year after Akron plays them. Between the night games, the length of games, my disinterest in learning a new roster every year, and increasingly feeling like college football is set up for only a few teams to be successful, I think I may have had enough.
  21. You missed the point.
  22. The sleaze today makes the coaches of the past look like choir boys. It's so bad now teams are going to have to start hiring general managers to manage parts of the sleaze.
  23. I could see it play out in a way that helps mac level schools. The MAC is a development league. I don't see it helping P4 schools much because they have appeal and money behind them. Their players mostly show up ready to play. My concern is cultural. Juco is a place for dummies and guys who are completely focused on themselves. The team just exists for the player to get to another school. I'm not sure how two years of that level of self centeredness is good for a future program. I addition, there is a big difference between a 24-25 year old and an 18-19 year old. I couldn't imagine trudging off to winter workouts at 6 AM as a 24 year old, or even wanting to live in places like Athens, Oxford, Bowling Green or Mt. Pleasant at that age. Seems to be the makings of unhappy people.
  24. I've had to attend open day games on Thursday nights the past few years and I absolutely hate them. Why can't fans just go to a Saturday game and enjoy a day off without having to take a day off? Maybe a nice community event? Good grief.
  25. Someone playing 6 years of college football at any level seems like a really unproductive use of life.
