  1. I don't disagree with a single word. That last sentence scares the crap out of me though, because it could be true. 2018 is a long way away.I too can't take another building process, so I'm hoping that Coach I gets things turned around...and soon. There are always reasons why a team is bad. We'll know a lot more about this team after Saturday. Jesus....2018....how depressing.
  2. Interesting stat...the 187 number is almost amazing it happened two years in a row. I'd love a math major to calculate the probability of that happening. In order to score 187 points this season, we need to average 17 points per game...doesn't seem like that should be hard to do. I'm setting the over/under on our point total for the remainder of the season at 220.
  3. Amen. It is so refreshing seeing a more tough-nosed defense w/ 4 DL. If we get shoved around w/ 4 DL, so be it; our opponent deserves to win. But I was so sick and tired of watching our 3DL D get shoved up & down the field year-after-year. Seeing 5 defensive bodies on the line of scrimmage on 3rd and short, instead of 3, was a dream come true. I almost cried. Someone needs to start a "Why the Zips defense is better" thread. It will be a bright spot for the Zips this year. I can't do it all around here.
  4. No, but this isn't a court of law so we are allowed to use our brains. My only data to back it up is TW and Coach I worked together. This goes on all the time in business and in college athletics. I don't need to spend six months putting together Six Sigma cause and effect tables to figure this one out. As far as the last comment, I don't take what Zach says seriously. I don't expect you to issue youself an official ZNO demerit, but in the name of more civility, I'll be awaiting your apology. Claiming someone takes Zach seriously is one of the most viscous, almost violent, statements one poster can say to another. Shame! I'll say it again. Let's not call it a lazy decision...maybe it was an easy decision (is there really a difference?). That doesn't make Tom lazy. Lots of us do things every day to make our lives easy and on some level, that could make us lazy at that task. I think he made the easy decision in this case. I believe it isn't hard to look at the landscape of college football and conclude that a pro style offense isn't the way to win. Either TW didn't know this, or he willingly decided to take a direction that would not lead to success. The recent history of the MAC shows it isn't the way to win. I don't see how that makes him a good decision maker in this matter, which was the most important decision he had to make thus far. It's not a personal attack at all. It is an eveluation of his ability to make important decisions at his job. In conclusion, I agree that the personal attacks of the AD and Coach I have to stop. Especially in the case of Coach I. I find the attacks in regards to his personal appearance repugnant. I will continue to have philosophical differences with his style of offense even though I think his style of defense is one I enjoy.
  5. To answer my own question...nope. If you get cut by the Bungles, is that it? I can't believe the crap stew Cincy is serving at QB this season. I wonder what Brian Kelly would give for Dan LeFevour right now?
  6. Lazy? Yes, I think his hiring of Coach I was a lazy decision. I didn't say he was a lazy guy, just this decision was lazy. Try not jumping to conclusions next time. I know how close you like to get to people within the Athletic Department, so please don't let your relationships with them impede your reading ability. Have I ever met Tom? No. So what? Save me the nice guy and hard working stuff. People are supposed to be nice and hard working. Everything good about Akron sports today was in place before TW too over. KD was the basketball coach and the program was rolling. The soccer program was established. Other programs are good as well. We didn't need direction in those programs. We needed direction in football. The AD was responsible for providing that direction and he has failed badly. Soccer has maxed out. Basketball has shown it will attract the same 2,800 people a game on average and that is about it. Remember the Motor City Bowl and how many people were there? That could be every week, and more, at The Big Dialer. It's not like there is no proof it can be done. The MCB is the proof.
  7. I don't know if I would use the word coward. I would use the word "lazy". I worry about what happens if we have a terrible next couple of years. This downturn couldn't have happened at a worse time. It raises so many possibilities and none of them are good. Things could be bad in a way that they were after Faust's final season.
  8. Why do you feel you have to respond to all of them? I've taken just about as much of a beating on this board as anyone, and I don't feel the need to respond to all of them. I don't even read half the posts. It's a fan webpage. Take it for what it is worth. If you want to talk football, talk football without responding to the personal attacks. Don't worry what everyone says about osu, osu's cupcake schedule or the low character of their previous coach. This is a Zips board and we can say whatever we want. If you don't like it, don't participate. There are plenty of osu fan boards you can go on and have your opinions reinforced.
  9. It's called class. There is a better breed of graduate from Michigan than osu. Michigan is one of the best schools in the country. osu is one of the best schools in Ohio.
  10. OSU is just another game day experience at a bcs level program, only most of the fans have an over inflated view of the program. Most of the country outside of Ohio laughs at OSU because of their schedule and their inability to beat a top level team. Every school has a tradition that is overrated. Script Ohio is one of those traditions that is just boring...it takes too long. The same can be said for Clemson running down the hill into their stadium...it takes too long and gets boring. The lighting of the Olympic torch at USC take too long and is really not that impressive when the torch lights up. The fans of those schools love it because most never go see anything else, but it is tedious. SEC stadiums are extremely loud and the fans are totally into the game. They are also very polite southern people and the girls are hot because they all dress up. ACC games are the same way, with the exception of Clemson which is full of the biggest bunch of stupid rednecks you have ever seen in your life. Go to enough college football stadiums and you will see the traditions of college football really aren't that impressive.
  11. I agree. The team is better than last year. The question is, will the wins improve? It is possible to improve and still only win one game. I don't look at as we won three in lieu of one so we are better. I like to look at things in a range. 0-4 wins is a disaster. 5-7 wins is average in the MAC. 8+ wins in the MAC is a really good year. We may still be in the low range at the end of the season. If we win three this year and four next year, are we getting better or are we still a terrible program? Again, I don't want to speculate until Sunday. Let's see what happens and then we will have a better indication as to where the program is heading this season.
  12. If the Zips get run out of the stadium Saturday, and it could very well happen, they won't win more than three games this season. I'll keep an open mind on the rest of the season until Sunday and then we can all start talking about some hard predictions for the season.
  13. The only thing missing is gold shoes. I love it.
  14. Our QB needs to do a better job of looking off defenders. Less balls will be batted down when that happens.
  15. I wonder...If Can't went to cheerleader uniforms with a leaf on them, what would that leaf look like and what would the uniform look like?
  16. I do believe our offensive and defensive lines were stronger yesterday.
  17. I agree. Coach I does what he does in that he runs a pro style offense in an era when everyone who wants to get good runs some sort of spread with a quick footed QB. I'm sure he made no bones about what he wanted to do when he came to Akron. I have no personal animosity towards Coach I, and I really don't care what he looks like. When you hire the guy, you get the style. It is the fault of the AD who hires the guy who brings the style. TW has not been good for Akron football since the day he walked in the door and destroyed any hope for the first year of The Big Dialer. He hasn't gotten any better and at the end of this season, we MAY be in a position where the program is in worse shape than when TW took over. Everyone think about that..... Especially you Dr. Proenza....you build the stadium and give us this? Fix it!!!!
  18. You made me laugh when I saw this because I said something similar about ECU's back-up players. It was hot as heck last night and when ECU had to sub, their guys looked like starters for Akron. There was a huge drop off in talent and USC would take advantage of it. They looked like players who weren't ready to start and may never start because they could bring in someone better than them at the drop of a hat.
  19. Soccer is maxed out. If we could get good at football, the attendance would dwarf soccer even when adjusted for actual games.
  20. Ya does not bode well for the Zips on down the road does it? No Sir.
  21. How good of a team? Here is the problem with our offense. It requires top level D-1A talent to be successful in that offense. Of course we would be better if we had a better team...if you have good enough players, you can run the fullback dive every play and win. We get MAC level players, not LSU or Florida or USC. Just to say we would be better if we had better players doesn't take into account the landscape of college football and the things a team has to do to be successful. I don't care how much better we get, our offense doesn't present a defense with anything challenging and Urban Meyer said that yesterday. No option, elementary pass routes, etc. Pro style can't work at our level because we don't get enough pro players.
  22. I went to the ECU vs. South Carolina game yesterday. The score looks like ECU got killed, but they were actually winning by 17 in the first half until the old ball coach decided to put a real QB in the game. ECU is a CUSA team and has five guys who would easily be the best player at their position for Akron. Their QB, the two WRs #s 1 and 2 (their actual numbers), their RB #28 and a DB #26 would all be immediate starters for Akron. If any one of them played for Akron, he would be the best player on the team. What ECU does that Akron doesn't do, is get the ball into their best players hands in a spread offense. We are trying to run a "team system"...bull$#!+. Find a few good guys and get the ball to them. That's how average teams get to be good. As long as we run the offense we do, we can't win with it. I'll reserve judgement for the remainder of the season until next Sunday, but the scrimmage yesterday didn't make me look forwad to the season. The one thing I look for in a scrimmage game like we played yesteday is whether or not a team passes "the eyeball test". When ECU came out of the tunnel, I told my wife they passed the eyeball test (BTW, ECU sold 25,000 tickets to the game...at the rate Akron is going, they will be lucky to sell 25,000 tickets this season). They had some big guys who looked in great shape. They looked like the type of team that could hang with an SEC team for a while and they did. My problem with the Zips is they are a non-bcs team like ECU and nobody passes the eyeball test. Again, let's wait to see what happens next week.
  23. Let's not....
  24. Not after what I saw yesterday.
  25. I was wishing we could get a shot of him stuffing his plays down the toilet. There are a ton of out of shape coaches on TV. I'm always surprised by it since most of them work withing a two minute walk from some of the best workout facilities in the country.
