  1. Do we really have 13 returning starter? I thought we had something like 17 returning starters going into last season and most were seniors . The numbers don't seem right. Help?

Great question! While the author did it in jest, there is a serious point to be made. That point is how little there is upon which to predict. The Zips lost a lot of seniors after last season so a lot of players on the field will be new. 34 is the best player on a defense that fell apart against a I-AA team last year. The QB situation is up in the air. Lots of new starters. Not a lot of information flows from the Athletic Department or football program. Given all of that, on some level I understand why the author wrote what he did. A paragraph joking about Zippy is more interesting than the team at this point. Makes me sad typing that. Want a better write up? Have a more interesting team.
  3. NICE!!!!Here are some quotes you may enjoy.
  4. UofA is a better school than X, Mount, Oberlin, John Carrol. Case and Carnegie Mellon are on par in many areas. CMU generates good engineers, but so does UofA. UofA is a very, very good engineering school. Case has a good business school, but I think the top students at UofA business school could compete at the same level as the top kids at Case.It isn't about how smart you are going in, it's about how smart you are coming out.
  5. I'm probably not smarter than everyone else, but I'm smarter than you.
  6. Excellent question. Here is what you are missing. Lots of people fall for this con so please don't feel bad. Most of these schools quality is based upon how difficult it is to get in. Granted, Akron is a public school and they have to let a lot of people in so things like average SAT scores and GPAs are lower. What they don't measure is what is in the head of a person when they graduate. I'd take the knowledge in the head of a UofA graduate upon graduation rather than a graduate of Kenyon College any day of the week. The kid from UofA will be better adjusted, smarter and more worldly than some spoiled kid from one of those small colleges. A kid from a small college is likely to spend his summer in Europe "traveling"....spare me. A kid from UofA is likely to spend his summer working or doing a co-op or an internship. A kid from UofA knows how to work when he/she gets out of school. There is a lot more to college than a comparison of SAT scores. I'll match both of my degrees, what I know and what I can do against any douchebag from one of these small schools. I fart in their general direction.
  7. Please name a college at Mt. Union that is better than what UofA offers. The truth is and with the exception of the Ivy League, kids of average ability go to small liberal arts schools so they can be pampered by the low student/faculty ratio. Kids who want to compete at a higher level attend a larger institution with publishing professors who challenge the students with current information and are challenged by the other students. With the exception of Can't, I can't think of a single Ohio MAC school that Mt. Union would be better than.
  8. Not a big fan of Pluto, but he wrote some points on CSU basketball recently. Take it for what it is worth.
  9. Go to the Mardi Gras Lounge before the game. The food is really good. If memory serves me correct, doesn't CSU serve beer at games? If so, grab a quick bite and go to the game early. You probably wouldn't want to walk from Mardi Gras to the game, but it is very close.
  10. A party bus is pretty cheap. It's the strippers that drive up the cost of the trip.Show up? I hope they kick their butts.
  11. Always a good topic. My opinion is PSU fans had better hope not. Once JoePa retires, PSU becomes as relevant at the University of Illinois in the Big Ten and nationally. JoePa is the only thing interesting about PSU football. Lou Holtz once said, "Penn State is fifteen minutes from Altoona by telephone." PSU won't find another person who could make that part of the country relevant as Joe Pa did. It will be a sad day on many levels when he retires.
  12. Are all the gravel UA lots getting paved? Or just this one?More importantly, why are there still ANY gravel lots? A first class university should have all paved lots.I will pass that along to Mount Union University. We're a better school than Mt. Union. They aren't even a first class university. In fact, they are second rate. They probably don't have a single faculty member who has done any meaningful research in 20 years. Our national championship in D-1A soccer means more than all of their football championships in whatever division they play in. Feel free to pass along the information though.
  13. No, I want grass right by the parking spaces, but no cars on grass.
  14. No dorms? Make the tailgating experience better until the dorms go up. There is a pretty cheap way to do this. From what I read on the board, this lot is not full. First, fill the lot. As part of the paving project, make a grass park in the lot somewhere so people could erect tailgating tents, etc. A few truckloads of topsoil, seed and straw isn't very expensive. I'm having trouble seeing the lot in my mind, but they might could create a type of boulevard the length of the lot that earlybirds could pull up next to and have grass right behind their vehicle...or a square park might work of positioned properly. There is an element of safety as well. It is safer to sit in the park or pass football in the park rather than doing those activities on asphalt with cars driving around. If they are going to have a premium tailgating spot, give the fans some benefits in the lot for the premium they pay....make it a nice place. Asphalt lots don't lend themselves to tailgating tents. The also get hot as heck. Remember the Rubber Bowl? Grass is a good thing to erect a tailgating tent in and it is a heck of a lot cooler to stand on than asphalt.

  17. Here we go again......
  18. Schedule LinkOn the whole, I like the home game starting times. Not a big fan of 6:00 starts as in the first game, but it looks like it might be an ESPN obligation. If they are going to have a 6:00 start, the first game is a good time to do it as the weather is GREAT to be outside for tailgating and cooling at kickoff.I really like afternoon games and this schedule gives five games starting no later than 3:30. If the goal is to bring people downtown for more than a game, this does it. Four adults could go to a game together, have it over at the latest 7:00, go out to dinner or do some post game tailgating and go home. There are three 2:00 games and I think that is a great time to start a college football game. There was once a time when almost every college football game started at 1:30. 2:00 allows for.....let's call it the "Proenza Trifecta" as he wants people to be downtown and take advantage of the Univeristy and City. Pre game tailgate, post game tailgate and dinner downtown at a reasonable time after the post game tailgate. That should be a trifecta in everyones book.I can't really complain about the starting times. Well done Athletic Department.
  19. I guess you would agree with the article the. Females are designed to squeeze a baby from between their legs. My sister told me it was like crapping a bowling ball. They are built to take pan a man never would.
  20. I don't want either. I just want to learn what is going on in the world.
  21. He did have trouble reporting in a timely manner. Even worse, he had trouble following the rules over and over again. There is no way on God's green Earth he didn't know giving a recruit a jersey was a violation. If anyone is interested, Google "lack of institutional control". A PDF file comes up as one of the first choices. It is rather long. It looks like an NCAA document that is rather detailed. Maybe one of the Mods could help us out and post it on this tread.
  22. Please look up the number of viewers FOX has on a daily basis and tell me whether or not you think that qualifies as a "mass" audience in comparison to the rest of the country.Hint: FOX primetime viewership in 2009 was 2.9 million, which is less than 1% of the US population. They have had a 29% increase in viewership since then which puts them at 3.7 million or 1.2% of the US population. The masses are not idiots. The people who are attracted to FOX News because they want their belief system reinforced are. The same goes for Keith Olberman and MSNBC viewers.
  23. I don't know exactly what the NCAA defines "Lack of Institutional Control" as, but when a coach is written up by the University and continues down the same road in an even worse manner, it would seem to me that institution is having trouble keeping control over a program.Tressel thought he was untouchable.
  24. It's starting to look more and more like it is owned by a criminal organization.Don't know about that. I am pretty sure the mob would run it better than that I don't know about better, but honorable might be the word I would use.
