Why do you feel you have to respond to all of them? I've taken just about as much of a beating on this board as anyone, and I don't feel the need to respond to all of them. I don't even read half the posts. It's a fan webpage. Take it for what it is worth. If you want to talk football, talk football without responding to the personal attacks. Don't worry what everyone says about osu, osu's cupcake schedule or the low character of their previous coach. This is a Zips board and we can say whatever we want. If you don't like it, don't participate. There are plenty of osu fan boards you can go on and have your opinions reinforced.

It's called class. There is a better breed of graduate from Michigan than osu. Michigan is one of the best schools in the country. osu is one of the best schools in Ohio.

OSU is just another game day experience at a bcs level program, only most of the fans have an over inflated view of the program. Most of the country outside of Ohio laughs at OSU because of their schedule and their inability to beat a top level team. Every school has a tradition that is overrated. Script Ohio is one of those traditions that is just boring...it takes too long. The same can be said for Clemson running down the hill into their stadium...it takes too long and gets boring. The lighting of the Olympic torch at USC take too long and is really not that impressive when the torch lights up. The fans of those schools love it because most never go see anything else, but it is tedious. SEC stadiums are extremely loud and the fans are totally into the game. They are also very polite southern people and the girls are hot because they all dress up. ACC games are the same way, with the exception of Clemson which is full of the biggest bunch of stupid rednecks you have ever seen in your life. Go to enough college football stadiums and you will see the traditions of college football really aren't that impressive.

I agree. The team is better than last year. The question is, will the wins improve? It is possible to improve and still only win one game. I don't look at as we won three in lieu of one so we are better. I like to look at things in a range. 0-4 wins is a disaster. 5-7 wins is average in the MAC. 8+ wins in the MAC is a really good year. We may still be in the low range at the end of the season. If we win three this year and four next year, are we getting better or are we still a terrible program? Again, I don't want to speculate until Sunday. Let's see what happens and then we will have a better indication as to where the program is heading this season.

If the Zips get run out of the stadium Saturday, and it could very well happen, they won't win more than three games this season. I'll keep an open mind on the rest of the season until Sunday and then we can all start talking about some hard predictions for the season.

The only thing missing is gold shoes. I love it.

Our QB needs to do a better job of looking off defenders. Less balls will be batted down when that happens.

I wonder...If Can't went to cheerleader uniforms with a leaf on them, what would that leaf look like and what would the uniform look like?

I do believe our offensive and defensive lines were stronger yesterday.

I agree. Coach I does what he does in that he runs a pro style offense in an era when everyone who wants to get good runs some sort of spread with a quick footed QB. I'm sure he made no bones about what he wanted to do when he came to Akron. I have no personal animosity towards Coach I, and I really don't care what he looks like. When you hire the guy, you get the style. It is the fault of the AD who hires the guy who brings the style. TW has not been good for Akron football since the day he walked in the door and destroyed any hope for the first year of The Big Dialer. He hasn't gotten any better and at the end of this season, we MAY be in a position where the program is in worse shape than when TW took over. Everyone think about that..... Especially you Dr. Proenza....you build the stadium and give us this? Fix it!!!!

You made me laugh when I saw this because I said something similar about ECU's back-up players. It was hot as heck last night and when ECU had to sub, their guys looked like starters for Akron. There was a huge drop off in talent and USC would take advantage of it. They looked like players who weren't ready to start and may never start because they could bring in someone better than them at the drop of a hat.

Soccer is maxed out. If we could get good at football, the attendance would dwarf soccer even when adjusted for actual games.

Ya does not bode well for the Zips on down the road does it? No Sir.

How good of a team? Here is the problem with our offense. It requires top level D-1A talent to be successful in that offense. Of course we would be better if we had a better team...if you have good enough players, you can run the fullback dive every play and win. We get MAC level players, not LSU or Florida or USC. Just to say we would be better if we had better players doesn't take into account the landscape of college football and the things a team has to do to be successful. I don't care how much better we get, our offense doesn't present a defense with anything challenging and Urban Meyer said that yesterday. No option, elementary pass routes, etc. Pro style can't work at our level because we don't get enough pro players.

I went to the ECU vs. South Carolina game yesterday. The score looks like ECU got killed, but they were actually winning by 17 in the first half until the old ball coach decided to put a real QB in the game. ECU is a CUSA team and has five guys who would easily be the best player at their position for Akron. Their QB, the two WRs #s 1 and 2 (their actual numbers), their RB #28 and a DB #26 would all be immediate starters for Akron. If any one of them played for Akron, he would be the best player on the team. What ECU does that Akron doesn't do, is get the ball into their best players hands in a spread offense. We are trying to run a "team system"...bull$#!+. Find a few good guys and get the ball to them. That's how average teams get to be good. As long as we run the offense we do, we can't win with it. I'll reserve judgement for the remainder of the season until next Sunday, but the scrimmage yesterday didn't make me look forwad to the season. The one thing I look for in a scrimmage game like we played yesteday is whether or not a team passes "the eyeball test". When ECU came out of the tunnel, I told my wife they passed the eyeball test (BTW, ECU sold 25,000 tickets to the game...at the rate Akron is going, they will be lucky to sell 25,000 tickets this season). They had some big guys who looked in great shape. They looked like the type of team that could hang with an SEC team for a while and they did. My problem with the Zips is they are a non-bcs team like ECU and nobody passes the eyeball test. Again, let's wait to see what happens next week.

Let's not....

Not after what I saw yesterday.

I was wishing we could get a shot of him stuffing his plays down the toilet. There are a ton of out of shape coaches on TV. I'm always surprised by it since most of them work withing a two minute walk from some of the best workout facilities in the country.

Is he your next door neighbor? Thanks for your typical valuable input. My pleasure. The real value in the post is there will be about 50 people who read it and get a kick out of the humor.

Akron September opponent's coach in hot water?
GP1 replied to Dr Z's topic in Off Topic, Smack & Jokes
I don't believe for one second they didn't know, at the time, taking those bags was a violation. What they did is Compliance 101, not sr., jr. or even soph. level compliance. They learned it the first day. Rules are rules even when the rules are stupid. Whether or not they turned themselves in isn't the issue. The issue is the culture of non-compliance Tressel created. If they don't break the rules, they don't have to turn themselves in. -

My biggest concern looking at this is the volume of points OU and Temple put up. Some other mac schools put up a lot of points as well. We put up zero points. College football is a game now of scoring a lot of points and making the other team keep up the pace. I don't see our style of offense ever putting up the volume of points needed to be really successful in 2011.

Akron September opponent's coach in hot water?
GP1 replied to Dr Z's topic in Off Topic, Smack & Jokes
I don't think you heard him right. I think he was saying to stop with the charity and other events for a while and just focus on the players. Does anyone have a recording of the game? It happened late third quarter or in the fourth. If I remember right, it was about taking gift bags. tOSU players shouldn't stop doing charity events as it is important for them to support charity. They should stop breaking ncaa rules while at charity events. -
Akron September opponent's coach in hot water?

Did anyone hear osu's next coach, Urban Meyer, just give his views on breaking the rules when he said they should tell the player to stop taking gifts, etc....for a while. Not forever, but for a while. One rule breaker replaces another. -
My thoughts on the first half. Won't be posting on the second half because I'm going to the USC vs. ECU game and quite frankly, this game is over. Early in the game, the Zips defense was aggressive with blitzing and slants to the strong side of formations and the field. I would have done the same thing if I worked on the coaching staff. It didn't work out so well and after making an in game adjustment to less blitzing and LOS pressure, they played better. Our d-line is better than I thought it would be. Not great, but better than last year and made some decent plays today. I think this group will play better when MAC play starts. Our d-backs, when they aren't falling down, didn't play that poorly either. On the first osu TD, we slanted to the strong side and containment is needed by a DB and the guy missed the tackle of the QB. That's not good at all. One broke up a pass downfield and could have had an int so that was a good play. OSU QB is playing great. I am extremely disappointed in our linebackers. The d-line is not a disaster and they are missing tackles or getting carried for a few extra yards. They are not getting off of blocks. Not a good day by any of the LBs thus far. My biggest concern is how soft they play. I expected much more out of this group....that means you Mr. Wagner....get off of blocks and stop getting knocked on your butt by the fullback...you're the leader of the team now start playing like it. Punter is doing a good job. Kicker struck the ball well, just missed. Percentages go way down on 40+ yard FGs. Field position has not been our friend today and has been our #1 problem. A lot of that has to do with poor special teams play. What do I mean by poor? Keep in mind, the front five on KO return get a ten yard head start. The osu players are beating to the point where they turn around to block. Punt return is not holding anyone up at the line and the defeners are running free down the field. We need to get some faster guys on the kickoff return front line or we'll be starting every drive inside the 20. The offense. Urban Meyer thinks our offense is a joke and he is right. They don't do anything that might even resemble misdirection. Nothing is working so the only misdirection a pro offense has is play action. That is ruled out because the running game isn't working. No option...no spread...no nothing. It's not 1960. The offensive line is playing well. It's hard to complete passes when QB accuracy is poor or the ball is delivered too late. Moore never looks away from where he is throwing and this has to change. We don't send enough guys out for passes...it's like the offense we ran in the 80s when Faust was the coach. Philosophically, I've never like pro style offenses in college in the 21st Century and today is a good example of why. Too many penalties in the second quarter. Halftime is about over. Keep this in mind. It could be a lot worse right now. Don't worry about what happens in the second half. The game is out of control and the offense will be forced to throw all the time. That's not a good way to evaluate anything. We'll know a lot more after next week. Have a safe and fun weekend with your families and friends.
