  1. Now we know. Further question. Why would a US Attorney notify OSU of the stash of OSU junk the guy had on him?
  2. AKRON is 10-8 against the spread versus E MICHIGAN since 1997 AKRON is 14-5 straight up against E MICHIGAN since 1997 5 of 9 games in this series have gone OVER THE TOTAL since 1997 E MICHIGAN is 1-0 against the spread versus AKRON over the last 3 seasons Eastern has only ONE mac victory on the road this year...Toledo, who only had ONE mac victory total. If we can't beat Eastern at home tonight, we don't deserve to be at the Q. Both literally and figuratively.......
  3. I really don't care how often you see them. You're part of the apology train. Half court execution?....If you mean that "5 Guy Stand Around" offense they used to run, I don't buy it. The party line about KD, and you should know it, is that the defense will turn into offense through transition points. We've been hearing about it for years. I don't have to masochisticly go to game after game to know that. Let's not try to create a new reality about the past. KD has always tried to get points in transition through good defense. His problem is he has trouble developing players who can score on a regular basis. I do agree that making it to the finals is a good thing. The more you make it, the better chance you have to either win or be remembered as a guy who won one and lost more than his share....Bill Cowher. After a while, the sweet smell of the one victory can overcome the stench of loss after loss.
  4. When aren't we rebuilding?....... He's been here seven years....how much more rebuilding can we take?
  5. I don't know if there was anything illegal going on or not. They may be bit players in something else, but it is strange that a US Attorney stumbled upon it. It could be as harmless as during an investigation of something else, an informant offered to tell the US Attorney about OSU players trading stuff for tats thinking it was somehow illegal thinking it would help his case. US Attorney is OSU grad and informs the school of the potential problem. It could be more serious. All I want to know is....How did the US Attorney come about the information first? My guess is this might be one of the best parlors in Columbus. If so, the guy probably makes a good living owning it. Knowing the future money these guys are going to have, they aren't going to go cheap. They probably have plenty of under the table money.
  6. Great posts DrZ!!! For those of you too young to remember anything other than ESPN, this is called "sports journalism". Good reporting. There is one thing I find most interesting about these stories. Why was OSU contacted by a local US Attorney? The government has no standing over the NCAA, so how did the US Attorney know anything was going on? Why did the US Attorney know about what was going on? Who was the US Attorney investigating? Was the owner of the tat parlor under some sort of investigation? Was one of the players under investigation for a crime? US Attorneys don't just walk around cities looking into tat parlors to see who is getting one. Getting a tat is not a crime. Selling that junk they sold for tats is not a crime so what was the US Attorney doing? Tressel breaking his contract is not a crime that I know of and if it was, the State Police would investigate it and not a US Attorney. Something is very odd with this story and the focus seems to be in the wrong place. Maybe there is nothing there, but how the information came out was very strange as should be looked into by the media.
  7. I looked through this entire section and I don't see a single person really complaining. I think all of the comments have been fair and reasonable. The questions Big Zip started this section with were fair and could be asked at any point the last couple of seasons. Patience? This is his 7th season. He's the highest paid coach in the Athletic Department. Nobody thinks he should be let go. That sounds like we are being patient. With the exception of a small non-blinded minority, this board is a little too apologetic for the underperformance of the program as of late. This is Division I college basketball, not Walsh (although you wouldn't know that from our schedule). This is how people talk about programs at this level.
  8. There is no doubt this is a good program, but not a great program. I'm not sure winning 20 with our schedule is all that difficult. I'd like to address the last sentence. I've always said KD is the Bill Cowher of the MAC. Cowher was a defensive/running game oriented coach who blew more AFC Championship games than he should have because of that. KD is the same way. The last sentence could also read...."His program has reached the conference final for four straight years, winning ONLY one, allowing a completely inferior Miami team to hang around and beat them, and going into overtime for a third (whatever that is supposed to mean)." Some said Bill Cowher could never be replaced by a better coach. I would argue the Steelers in fact DID replace him with a better coach with fresh and modern ideas, especially on offense. KD doesn't deserve to be fired, but never say he couldn't be replaced by someone better. There is always someone out there better. The only problem would be allowing our flunky of an athletic director to hire the next coach. If the hiring decision came down to Coach K or Dan Hip (or some other guy who worked with him somewhere out there), he would pick Hip.
  9. He brought that tradition with him from Akron. They were hurt by guys getting hurt late in the season this year.
  10. He sure was a tough guy. Wrestling in high school creates a very aggressive person.
  11. Can he do anything with one though? We'll see...we all know it's a building process.....
  12. Facilities are not the problem. Can't State has a horrible arena and they seem to do well year in and year out. If facilities were that big of a deal, we wouldn't lose a MAC football game. I thought we would have learned that lesson by now. I'm always patient with coaches. As long as KD continues to win 20 games, regardless of how it is done, the blame will never be pointed in his direction. Personally, I think he focuses on the wrong things, but we can talk more about that after the season.

Congrats on being the first guy to pinpoint the problem in this game. Could have mixed in a zone while Zeke was still in the game. Instead we kept with the man-to-man/wide-open lane defense. Notre Dame lost their main player yesterday and the switched to a 2-3 zone after giving up a nice lead to UCONN. Changed the game the final 4 minutes because UCONN depends on driving the lane. ND got back the lead and won the game playing a zone. Great college basketball game if anyone saw it.
  15. I don't think anyone - me included - was cheering for them to lose...simply pointing out that a 6 seed might provide Akron the best road to the MAC Final. I understand where you are coming from. We need a 20 win season more than the 6 seed. To be the best, you have to beat the best. I don't care who we play in the Tournament, we need to win.
  16. It is good for Akron to win every game. Last night was especially important because it would have placed them at the 20 win mark. If they lose in their first game this week, they finish with 19 making it an average season. I'd like to see them finish with at least 20 (22 would be even better because they would be MAC champions) to keep the run of 20 win seasons going. 20 wins is a good season....19 is average.
  17. Not if you lend money in a responsible way. You know, to people who can afford to pay it back. There are plenty of banks who have weathered the financial crisis well.

I guess another observation is we are a better team than what played last night. It was the first time I've seen Can't play this season. They are a shell of the program they once were....kind of shocking to see. They are the talent level of a team we should beat or at least be better than at this point.
  19. I think you political fans would enjoy watching the documentary 'Inside Job.' It won an Oscar this year. I think it gives a nice overview of what brought about the financial meltdown that put our economy in the situation we are currently in. Haven't seen the movie, but the situation we are in isn't too difficult to figure out. 30 years ago, 8% of the GDP of the USA was financial institutions. Today, it is 42%. The only way to really have a wealthy society is to make things. What do financial institutions make? What value do they bring to society other than getting people to sign on the dotted line and pass along a fee for processing paperwork? How many people out there know there is a tax incentive the US government gives you to move your company to another country? We have met the enemy and we are us. If the unemployment number is going down, what kind of job is replacing it? Let's look. Jobs lost during the recession were wage jobs between $19.05 and $31.40 per hour. These new and exciting jobs everyone is excited about are wages between $9.03 and $12.91. Another step toward the US becoming a Third World country complete. I'm a pretty conservative guy, but there is something really wrong in this country. I could care less about the rich or the poor. The middle, or shrinking middle, is a huge problem moving forward.

This is a link to the ABJ photos of the game last night. To all Akron football players, please take note of photo 13 of 14. You all should be ashamed of losing the Wagon Wheel to such a stupid bunch of people. Do yourselves and everyone a favor and bring that trophy back to where it belongs next season.

I agree 100%. Akron was able to maintain the lead the entire time Zeke was in. I was completely confident early in the second half that the Zips were going to win. Can't would make a comeback and get within two, then Akron would extend the lead again. I never thought Can't would take the lead. Zeke goes out, Can't is able to tie the game and get some confidence and things got away from Akron. I agreed 100% with KD taking Zeke out after his third foul. They were almost 8 minutes into the second half with a lead. Even if he didn't get the third foul, it would have been a good time to rest him for a couple minutes.
  22. George F. Will gets is right as usual. Quick question...When Will calls him a "vibrator" in the article, is he really calling him a dick? When Al Sharpton plays the race card, nobod is surprised because he is dealing from the top of the deck. There is a certain honesty to what Sharpton does because he makes no bones about where he is coming from. The problem with Huckabee playing the race card, which he is, is he is dealing from the bottom of the deck. He is speaking a type of code to a base faction in the Republican Party that decent people should be ashamed of. I wish Palin and Huckabee wold just go away. Curse the douschebags at Fox News for keeping them alive. Where is Z.I.P. on this issue facing ZNO?

Zeke was great on defense. He needs to do two things on offense: 1. Do a better job of quickly establishing his position in the block. 2. He needs a higher release point for the ball when he shoots from the field and the foul stripe. One other thing that makes it three. Establish a better routine on the foul stripe. He should get his arms moving by dribbling. This will establish fluid movement in his shooting. He looks stiff just flipping the ball around in his hands a little. It's a sport, relax and have fun with it. Physically, Zeke looks great.

I think the Diggs ejection was because the ref was putting his hands on him and Diggs instinctively pushed his hands off him. Touching an official. You are correct. It was pretty clear in the replay that Diggs shoves the hands of the ref away. He got what he deserved. It didn't matter last night, but if he is ejected for that, does he get suspended for one game, meaning the first Tournament game?
  25. I'll keep it simple for you guys. "The most dangerous team is a team with confidence and momentum".....Bill Cowher. Prior to Zeke going out with three fouls, Can't had no confidence or momentum. Zeke goes out, Can't makes some shots and gathers confidence and momentum in their offense...game over. Zeke going out with three fouls was key to the game. Even when he came back, the Zips couldn't get back THEIR confidence and momentum. Thank you and have a nice weekend.
