  1. That's absolutely absurd. No one in the mac is even CLOSE to Akron right now. And if anyone's better, it's certainly not emu. His entire argument seems to be that they lost to good teams. I can't believe i just read that.
  2. I believe three, but i may be wrong
  3. He was also a big contributor to St. V's basketball team, as many great tight ends are
  4. Reggie Rogers transferred from Massillon to Firestone in high school and was committed to Marshall. He was kicked off the team before his freshman year at Marshall and it sounds like he landed here, which I guessed would happen. I've heard from people at Firestone that he had some issues that hurt him at Marshall, so maybe that's what's keeping him off the radar here. A similar situation was Kevin Gladdney (WR), also from Firestone. Teammate of Jerome Lane there. He didn't play much as a freshman at Nebraska, but seemed to be fairly highly-regarded for the future, and was kicked off the team as a sophomore before coming to Akron. I've heard from Firestone people that Kevin is a real stand-up guy and they were all surprised to hear about what happened at Nebraska, so I'm expecting good things from him.
  5. Big dogs numbers actually back up his breakout quite well...he averages the second most points per 40 min. on the team, behind only pat, and that's while taking a lot fewer shots than pat. He's got the highest efficiency rating on the team and he gets to the line far more than anyone else, something that we as a team seem to struggle with.
  6. I'll I'm saying is that the rankings are a good tool to gauge relative strength...they are based entirely on fact and can be used to support "what if" scenarios, but are not in anyway based on them
  7. I hate to say it but I think that Hurley will be a success at ASU. They've had a solid season up to this point with a win over top-25 Texas A&M already and Bobby has already reeled in two top-100 4-stars for 2016 and another for 2017. I suspect they'll be a player in the PAC 12 before long.
  8. The Bulls are quite a mix of old and new faces this year. Gone are last year's top three scorers in Justin Moss, Shannon Evans, and Xavier Ford. Evans transferred out to follow Hurley to ASU and Moss was kicked off the team after an on-campus theft. Unlucky for the Canadians as they were set up to be very good this year. They lack the typical dominant big man that so many recent Buffalo teams have had with the trio of recent MAC POYs in Moss, McCrea, and Watt, and their top 6 scorers are all guys under 6-5. Their best player is one of last year's most promising-looking freshman, PG Lamonte Bearden. He, Jarryn Skeete, and freshman CJ Massinburg form a very big, athletic backcourt. Noah, Antino, and Josh will have their hands full with them. I worry about their penetration and we really need our guards to stay in front of them. I believe we have a big advantage in the frontcourt, however. Their leading rebounder is 6-5 Rodell Wigginton and they have a ton of inexperience among their forwards. I look for Big Dog to continue his strong play and cross my fingers that Jake and Pat will be able to go. Road conference games, especially at Alumni Arena, are always tough and we need everyone healthy.
  9. I think the closest comparison for jimond right now is deji. Not much shooting (dejis came on later in his career), plays above the rim, quick enough to get to the rack and beat the defender, and very raw. If his career trajectory ends up like deji he will be very special in a few years. As for kwan, i don't know if i can recall ever having a big man who consistently relied on their perimeter game as much as he does.
  10. I feel like the MAC doesn't really have the top-tier, elite teams that it may have had in other years, but the distance between the top and bottom of the league is very narrow. Not many awful or great teams, but a whole lot of decent, solid ones.
  11. Like I said, its close, but I personally believe the 12-13 team was better...they were marred by the ugly end to the season but that 19 game win-streak was something unlike any Zips team has done before and that team was the closest we ever really got to actual national relevance, fleeting as it may have been. And as for the use of statistical rankings, they are about as close as you can get to predicting and measuring something as unpredictable as college basketball. There's nothing "what if" about it, it's simply a tool used to measure and compare, and I believe that it's the best manner of doing so, as imperfect as it may be.
  12. Well it may have been ugly, but now that non-conference play is finished I have to say that I am definitely pleased with where we are right now. 11-2 is about as good as we could have hoped when looking at the schedule before the season. I did a little bit of research to compare this non-conference slate with past years, and Akron has never had as good of a record to end the non-conference as we did this year with 11-2. Here are the last five years: 2015-16: 11-2 2014-15: 9-4 2013-14: 8-5 2012-13: 9-4 2011-12: 8-6 And, Akron's current rank of 51 in Kenpom is higher than we have ever finished a season, with the exception of 2006-07. Even the 2012-13 team (which I consider to be the best Zips squad ever, slightly better than 06-07) was ranked down at 64. All of which just shows me that this season has the potential to be very special and that this could be one of the best Zips teams ever, regardless of a lot of the pessimism and whining that seems to be flowing through this forum lately.
  13. App state will be fun. Anyone know what marshall will look like next year? They've been great the last 3 years and im wondering what they have coming back
  14. Id be surprised if either of them go for it sadly. What would be really nice is if kd and shaka decide to play each other again and we get some games with Texas, but i don't see that happening either
  15. No, they didn't, but they won their conference tournament. One could make the argument that they would've had a shot at an at-large, even with an SOS in the 300s, had they not won the conference tourney
  16. Akron will not go undefeated the rest of the way, although should be pretty much favored in all of them. There are bound to be some clunkers in there, and league road games are always tough. But, if we can minimize those clunkers and come to play every night we are in position to have a very, very successful year. Also, the program that comes to mind with all this "30-3 but awful schedule" talk is Stephen f Austin the last few years. They've had great records but even worse schedules than the zips and finished the last two years in the top 60 of kenpom and as 12 seeds in the tournament, even winning a game (against vcu, sound familiar?) two years ago. I would love to see the zips do something like that.
  17. I don't necessarily think they are either, but last year the lowest kenpom-ranked at large team (indiana) was ranked 53. Ole miss also got in at 50.I still don't think we would really be in the mix, but just shows that we aren't that far off. Either way it's not like being rated so highly is insignificant, i think it matters quite a bit and also wish we could've grabbed that green bay game
  18. That's disappointing. Based on their reaction i would've thought he threw it down quade milum style
  19. Anyone have any comments for the reggie dunk? French and dunn were losing their minds and im hoping there's a video somewhere
  20. Read option after read option after read option....but hey as long as it keeps eating clock that's fine
  21. Attaboy, Stein. That one had me nervous but he's been solid today
  22. If so that's huge. That's 25 PPG lost, he's the 3rd highest scorer in the country
