Charlie Frye Senior Bowl MVP

Actually the he had three incompletions -- the third was called as interference, but actually was the TE dropping the second TD pass from Charlie. The only legit incompletion was the throw away in the back of the end zone.

Sorry to see Kiper still picking him as a late first, second or third round. Hey Mel -- is that what they pay you the big bucks for? Kiper, "Hey you know that Charlie Frye -- he's going to be drafted in the NFL." Mel -- thanks for the insight.

The Live Stats on the game at CBS Sportsline shows #5 as 11 of 12 for 134 yards.

The first blurb on ESPN.com reads: "Akron's Charlie Frye and K-State's Darren Sproles stole the show as the North beat the South in the Senior Bowl."

Regardless of what anyone else may have to say, Charlie Frye just plain looked more like an NFL QB than anyone else on the field today. The other QBs looked like very good college players. Charlie has a presence out there that I'm sure the NFL talent scouts did not fail to notice. He led the team on good drives and made all the right moves at all the right times. On one of the sacks he was blindsided by a defender who was unblocked and caught Charlie while he was still dropping back in the pocket. On the other sack he was surrounded by some of the best defensive linemen in the country. A play-by-play analysis of the game film will show that Mr. Frye is a lot more advanced than he was given credit for by the announcers, who struck me more as lightweight entertainers than serious students of the game.

That was great...........

Congrats and continued best wishes to 5 and his family...........

Several thoughts...........the announcers had a yuck about 5's answering a question about dating........that he really didn't have a serious lady..............guess they can't "read" a guy like they get credit for as interviewers..........5's all about FB and getting better at it.........25 or 26 hours a day and 8 or 9 days a week ;) ..............everything else is second place.............then comes his family followed by all the rest. He'll have plenty of company from members of the opposite sex whenever he chooses too ;)

It pisses me off, but I've got to learn to pay no attention to Kypers rankings.......Hey Mel, did you see the game? Some guys are best in "game action"..........I could name more of them but what the hell.........Hey Mel..........who was voted team captain? Never mind...........it doesn't really matter in the end.

I liked that Auburn QB also.

That Miami of Ohio DB got toasted a couple times..........you guys see that?

QB's couldn't take shotgun snaps or run the ball..............two of Superman's favorites......guess Mel K  doesn't know about that either.

I jumped out of my chair a couple times during the game on his plays........and something occurred to me at those moments "hey Z-P (that's my real name ;) ) from now on, for probably the next 10 or 12 years, you will be blasting out of your seat watching NFL games on Sunday following this young man's career"................and that gave me a real warm fuzzy.

I still hope he gets drafted into a program where he can learn and develop slowly.....guys get wrecked when they're thrown into action too young.....

Thanks for more memories Charlie!

I'm not sure how many of you on this board are NFL fans and if you root for the NFL team slightly to the North, but I selfishly would like to see Charlie last until the third pick of the second round -- so I could have another reason not to give up my season ticket -- I'm not giving it up, but would sure like to see the current no. 5 head out of town and a new no. 5 suiting up for the Brown and Orange. Whether you are a Browns fan or not - if you are local you would get a chance to continue following Charlie's career up close with out the NFL Direct TV ticket.

Awesome ending to an awesome college career! To steal a quote from Z-P: "Thanks for the memories, Charlie!"

Also, it was great to see Charlie pimping the Akron program with his gear during the "Outside the Lines" segment. I recall when Jimal Ball was in the Nationally televised slam dunk contest on ESPN he gave "shouts out" to all his buds in Canton...while all the other participants were pimping the school on the front of their jerseys.

Is it too much to ask if he could stop back at Akron for a day...maybe sign some autographs or pics for kids at a hoops game?

Did anyone notice the interviewee talking with Charlie and calling the MAC the Mid-Atlantic Conference. Man -- that doesn't make you look to professional. Especially when it was in the voice over portion and obviously got through the editing department. The must have had one of the Beacon staff writers there checking facts.

I have no idea how Mel holds down a job as a draft specialist. He is always wrong.

Do you ever notice that his picks never change? I don't think he really puts any time into it now that he as a radio show and has become more "famous".

Mel reminds me of the sales agents who work for me. Each week they turn in their project lists and all they do is change the date on the report from the previous week and they think they are getting over on me. Mel just changes the date on his draft positions on whatever web site he is on and people listen to it. He makes me want to :puke:

Watched the entrie game and when 5 got his chane in the thrid series, he took over than game. Orton got another shot to start the second half but by then it was 5's game. Probably a good thing the Connecticut kid was sick or 5 mihgt have been sucking total hind tit and not gotten a channe like the Arkansas kid for the South.

5 showed what he is made of, did UA and the MAC proud. Feels kind of good knowing someone who will be one of the next wave of millionaires. Well done my friend.

I really think Frye was due for this. I agree that with Dan O being out, he got more playing time. I killed me during the game when the announcers mentioned that Frye need to learn what to do when the pocket collapses around him and how he needed to work on throwing on the run. It was blatantly obvious these guys had never seen an Akron game. IMO, Frye was more successful than Orton because he did what he has done for the past few years, take care of the ball. When it wasn't there, he made a sure throw or took it down with him.

Great showing for Frye and for Akron. Looks like he took a deal from Reebok, he had some of their apparel on during the Sunday show. He's a humble guy, I think he'll do great in the NFL!

Whomever (get that good English?) drafts #5 hope they have an offensive line of some merit, Tim Couch, (and any other QB) that tries to run a football team without an O line

is likely to be short lived in the league. I don't think Garcia will be able to take the pounding either. No offensive line = hurt qb. Pray Charlie has an offensive line where ever he goes> Charlie--thanks for the memories.
