xu9697
I would like to see them look very similar to BC's unis. Just replace all the maroon with blue and the eagles with our logo. I think a single thin blue stripe on the helmet with the logo would be sweet. I would go with these combos:home:Blue jersey/gold pants (5 games)Blue jersey/ white pants (1 game)road:White jersey/blue pants (4 games)White jersey/gold pants (1)All white (1)Obviously, we would keep our number style (unless Nike changes it), but PLEASE make it 15-20% smaller)!!! BC keeps just the right mix of old school look with some newer twists. I'd like to see Akron do the same.NOTE: BC uses Adidas/Reebok so I'm sure if we are using Nike next year it will not be EXACTLY the same. UAZipster0305
I was under the impression that Nike was contracted only for the basketball program(s) and that Adidas is the supplier for all other sports. Someone else please back me up or correct the statement.
zippyrifle32
only men's b-ball is under nike, but i forget when our adidas contract is up. it's still a few more years i believe. after the contract is up who knows?
zen
I really liked the all blue (with gold trim) uniforms against cinci
Blue & Gold
I belive you guys are correct - next year we'll still be wearing adidas football unis.I like this topic & give it thought on a regular basis. I also hope we go with a traditional, old-school look. The uni's this year have grown to be a little gaudy. I hope they simplify the look; clean it up a bit. I really like the BC uni's you pasted above. However, I do like the solid gold helmet w/o a stripe. But if they put a stripe on the helmet I'm not going to mind greatly. But if I had my drothers, I'd probably keep the solid gold. The year we won the MAC I really liked the blue stripe outlined w/ white stripes that we wore during the throwback games @ the RubberBowl.Apparently you didn't like the blue jersey w/ blue pants combo they wore on Saturday? I really like that look. I think they should make the blue jersey w/ gold pants their standard uni, but I'd also like to see them keep us guessing just a bit w/ occasionally going w/ the all blue look as well as the white pants look.I'd go w/ these combos:Home:blue jersey/gold pants (3 games; standard uniform)blue jersey/blue pants (2 games)blue jersey/white pants (1 game)Away:White jersey/gold pants (3 games; standard uniform)white jersey/blue pants (2 games)white jersey/white pants (1 game)and what about the possibility of a gold jersey? I've seen both Georgia Tech and UCF sport the gold jersey look now, so it's not out of the realm of possibility. And lastly, I STILL don't really like our signature logo. I've been hoping it'd grow on me, but it hasn't yet. I still think the "A" is obscure and that Zippy looks more like a donkey than a kangaroo. Also, from a distance it just looks like a blob. Could we go w/ the entire kangaroo silouette logo that we have? Or how about the vertical UA logo that the university generally uses. That logo is in a nice font & is sharp. Blue & Gold
Also, as with the solid helmets (w/o any stripe), I also like solid pants; no stripe.

I did like the all blue look on Sat. But I fear too many combinations will get us looking like Cant/WVU/Oregon with their 60 different combos. Kind of looks like a circus act to me. It could be their colors, though. The gold would not look as gaudy. I do like BC's uni's, though.Gold jerseys are too hard to read numbers. Purdue had them a few years ago, too. (may still have them?)
Blue & Gold
I just really love the gold. I'm quite open-minded w/ everything else. But the gold? That's where I take a stand! I was honestly PISSED when Lee Owens changed the colors from gold to yellow! Yes, that mad. The gold is so traditional and classy, not to mention good looking. That's actually one thing I wish our basketball team did MUCH more often, if not for EVERY home game - wear gold uni's. They're so cool! I hope our new Nike/LBJ23's come in gold! My checkbook is waiting!!!
K-Roo
That was the President, Peggy Elliot, who chose our Lemon Yellow Uni's... not Owens....
zip81
I've never really like the new logo ...the mean looking Kangaroo with his shoulder crossing the A....seems a bit over the top. We can come up with a much better logo than that.I've always liked the varsity A helmets we had when I was in school..but I'm a throwback fan.I realize it's dated, but I still like it. I didn't say to bring the "A" back. It's part of our history, and other than a throw-back game, should probably stay that way. It's a product of its era. 72 Roo
Great topic. I like your suggestion of a BC style jersey. Our numbers are too big for the field they are on. Especially in front. I'd also do away witht he slanted numbers and go with the style wore by the St. Louis Rams. On the pants I'd put a more dominant "A" and I'd leave the helmut alone. Not sure if i like it, so I'm giving it time to grow on me. Love the idea of gold tops instead of white.Get psyched. This is K.e.n.t. week! Enough said. xu9697
I'm actually a fan of the A/roo logo, but here is another thought for the helmet= go with "Akron" on the actual helmet, & the A/roo still on the shirt sleeves. The "Akron" could be underlined, ala Illinois, Giants (NY), etc. I'm not really much of a fan of the all blue look (not really a fan of all the same color in the pros or college), UNLESS they get some striping on the pants. BC has 2 solid striped down each type of pant= white & maroon down the gold pants & maroon & gold down the white. Blue pants with white & gold stripes would be sweet, and definitely could look good paired with the blue jerseys.I do agree that too many combos can weaken your "brand". So, whatever they decide, best to wear their main home & road combo at least 4 times IMHO. Good to see some nice discussion on this topic. I'm so glad someone hasn't busted out the "who cares what they look like, they need to win". Yes, we all know the most important thing is winning. But no doubt that the better a team looks, the better the logo is, the better the jersey looks it helps in marketing, sales, etc. which only helps in positive exposure for the team & the university. g-mann17
Sorry but the Roo-A is the sole reason that we have any merchandise sales. People were buying that before we even won the MAC Championship. It's sleek and stylish. The problem is most of you are stuck in the old school. The program (all programs for that matter) needed a new look. Mostly because we have no winning tradition. For the most part it has helped.Thisis so much more appealing to youth then this"A" lacks brand identity. Especially since we have little tradition at the school. The Roo-A logo gives us a brand identity. It seperates us from Auburn, Arkansas, Alcorn and all the other generic A logos that actually have some winning tradition and recognition. Now as for new uniforms. Especially if we end up getting Nike. I say we go with the Colorado style...
zen
I'm sorry too Zen...but to me, this looks like a donkey with an out-of-whack shoulder. That's true I suppose. In fact, I posted the logo on a non-sports website and some girls asked if it was a donkey... if I remember right.Perhaps it could be tweaked...slightly less donkeyish... but I agree with g-manns description of the difference between a "sleek and stylish" logo having some recognizably (and flair doing it) while the "A" logo is very generic. Not that you are suggesting we go back to the "A". Again, maybe it could be tweaked a little.... though I do like the "out-of-whack shoulder" because it looks sweeping or swoopish. Again, it's got style
g-mann17
But don't get me wrong. I am all for utilizing old school uniforms. The Blue and True Gold uniforms that we wore in the Can't St snow bowl game were awesome. But the old school uni's be should saved as alternate uniforms. We play Can't at home, pull out the old school uniforms. We manage to convince YSU to play at the info so we can have a home game before the end of summer, pull out the old school uniforms. But for the rest of the season yes the Roo-A and the sleek modern styled uniforms are the way to go.
Captain Kangaroo
Ask those 65-and-older at the "U" and you'll find this is the preferred new helmet logo:

And we're on the same page w/ the Colorado uni's! In fact, I almost mentioned Colorado's uniforms in my first post! But as for the logo, as Colorado has a buffalo on the sides of their helmets, could we possibly go with the jumping kangaroo on the sides of ours? I believe we have a logo w/ the jumping Zippy with Akron written just below it. That may make a really nice helmet logo that is recognizeable and distinguishable on television. I don't know where to find a copy of those logos, nor do I know how to post a picture anyway!

GP1
Just having some fun here....Good stuff zip81. How about something similar to what Temple does with a very simple blue lettering Akron on one side and one of three options on the other side:1. Akron again2. Zips3. The number of the player. UA1987
I like the vertical UA helmet logo idea. While Zippy is cute and all, I don't really like seeing a Kangaroo on our helmets. Thankfully it is sort of hard to tell what our helmet logo is. Pitt, Temple, and others abandoned the trendy idea to use school mascots as part of their football helmet logos. Kangaroos, Zippy pictures and the name Zips should be on sports apparrel gear for families, frats (or sororities), and fans, not on our competitive sports uniforms. These uniforms should only say UA, AKRON, or The University of Akron. As for the uniform design, just keep the true gold, and I guess I'll leave the rest up to our sponser.
