Valpo Zip
In the last Saturday ever at the rubber bowl. The last homecoming game there ever. BG commits multiple turnovers, doing all they can to hand us the game. We still refuse to win it. Unbelievable We go into the third quarter with a 13 points lead, we still mannage to loose the game. Simply amazing.
zipsbandman
I'm disgusted by this game. Why do we abandon the run and try to get cute when we were running all over this team with the lead to boot? I'm sorry but I'm not sold with cj. He looked like a deer in headlights when the going got tough and hisStupid pick killed us. And after that sack we needed the TO for clock and to get back some composure. What a poorlyManaged game. zip37
I repeat, J.D.'s gotta go, buy him out, fire him and make him fund raiser. We can go into new stadiumwith another coach that at least promises some hope.
zippyfan34
I have stayed off Jac's case this year. But on the bubble screen that was covered you have to throw the ball away. It looked like to me he tried to make a play and threw it to a player 15 yards down field. The only problem was since it was a bubble screen that guy was blocking and not looking at the quarterback, so the ball was picked off. Throw it into the stands.I thought the defense played pretty well, they were given bad field position off of that int and a long kickoff return. ZippyforPresident
Christ, this team could write a book on how to lose games they should have won. I can't say BG deserved to win this one, but Akron definitely deserved to lose it. I feel sick right now. Will we win a home game this year? Big Zip
Yeah -- you guys are right -- this one is on Jacq. Listen I'm probably one of the only people who seems to give the guy any credit while everyone wants to bench him -- I think GP1 is right this back up quarterback thing must be tied to NE Ohio. His play isn't fantastic, but he's certainly adequate enough. JD sees him and Rogers everyday at practice.Just wondering if all you guys happened to realize the offense put 33 points on the board!!!!!! You telling me that isn't enough points to win a game -- 33 f'ing points. Maybe we should look a little more closely at the defense. I will say I am puzzled at the trick play when we are close. Kennedy had a day today I thought we'd never see yet when the time to run the ball came -- we elected to not let him have the ball!!
ZachTheZip
It's not Jacq, it's our offensive playcalling which is just bizarre. Not to mention the 3-3-5 failing once again. But more than the playcalling, it's entirely mental. We fell into the "OMG we are winning! Don't do anything to screw up!" mindset, which always manages to do exactly what it is supposed to prevent. You NEVER sit on a lead, and you ALWAYS try to extend it, unless it's a blowout. It's a loser's mentality, and it infests our coaching staff's minds, and its symptoms are manifesting in our playcalling and defeatist attitude. Let'sGoZips94
I can use one word to sum up why we lost: DEFENSE! My gosh they sucked. If they would've showed up, it wouldn't have even been a game. I mean I know there were some turnovers and stuff, but not all of that was caused by the defense. Another thing is: GET ROGERS IN THERE! CJ just doesn't quite have the composure to play a whole game. Yes, I know lots of catchable balls were dropped, but try taking something off of those throws CJ!Positives: again our offense looks decent. I like the direction it's going. Our running game continues to be strong. Our special teams showed up.Against we were in the game. But how about we finish one?Being tied for second isn't bad, considering we are the best of the 2nd place teams IMO. BG will lose more. They aren't that good (which makes this loss even worse). Nothing else to do, but look ahead to Eastern and push this behind us. Go Zips!
72 Roo
It is insane to keep going with a QB that can not meet the challenges of the game. CJ was a huge factor in the Cincinnati loss and repeats that again tonight. Is Rodgers so much worse that we must stay with CJ and hope he doesn't kill our chances? Maybe some of you who are closer to the practices can comment on how much ability Rodgers truly has. I thought he had a lot, but I don't see that being developed in any game situations. JD owes it to his team, the university, alumni and the fans to get better quarterbacking. If this is his answer for last season and now this one, I can't support him keeping his job. I'm tired of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. Twice now this season. I thought I would be more upset about this, but I'm not. This outcome is what I've come to expect from this coaching staff. That, in itself, tells you how sad the situation is.
scottditzen
This was a classic Akron game at the Rubber Bowl. QUESTION:with the game on the line, who do you trust more to win it, our offense or our defense?I've seen enough that I excpect the team to lose. Not only that, we find a way to lose even when our chances at a loss look bleak.

What does it take to instill a killer instinct???? I've seen it way, way, way to many times where we snatch Defeat from the Jaws of Victory. I don't know why, but for some reason, this loss hurt as much as the loss to Can't State back in 2003. Will we win a home game our last season in the RB????? Kennedy had a day today I thought we'd never see yet when the time to run the ball came -- we elected to not let him have the ball!!I will never know why you defend this guy so much. That last drive was one bad decision after another made by Jacq. He never looks at his outs. Had he bothered to look at a -wide- open DK instead of a covered Bowser at the beginning of that last drive, we would have had a touch down. The one time I say he made a proper call in the final moments we got a first down out of it. The 3-3-5 is never going to work against a run up the middle. It isn't designed to. Every play, at least one LB blitzes. That leaves only 2 LBs behind the line and they can be eaten up by blockers and leaves a lot of the tackles up to the secondary. This is why almost every team we play has a huge success up the middle. It does do a good job of defending deeper throws and outside plays, however.JD just needs to stop play calling for the team he would like to have and actually call plays for the talent that is on the field. Our biggest offensive strength is DK and Tuzze up the middle. Why do we not rely on this more?On a positive note, I am extremely happy to see that we have gone to having one of the worst kicking teams in the MAC to one of the best. Cheers to Igor! ksu sucks
It's funny how just one week ago, I merely ask who else we have for jacq, and many of you freak. Now after one "bad" game, the same people want his head.If you ask me, he still looked like crap. But he did improve. Somewhat. At least he actually picked up those feet and started running when under pressure(except on that sack in the 4th). I believe it's becoming more evident every week that Jacq struggles in big moments in big games. That's not necessarily the best characteristic to have as a QB. Anybody else see DK out there? Damn, let's go get EMU. If we can run on BGSU with that simple (and stupid) play calling then imagine what damage we could inflict upon EMU.The MAC East Championship is still within our reach, calm down people. Do you all really believe that BG and UB will win out? Not with the inconsistent play the East has shown. We still need to just worry about what WE have to do, and go do it. Rich28
Im really getting tired of seeing the same running play on every 1st down... Change it up sometimes and who knows, maybe something positive will happen! The D looked pretty decent at times but still couldnt make plays at crucial times of the game!Jaq needs to learn how to look at his progressions. Its a trip how so many receivers are running wide open and Jaq just does not look around... He stares down his initial target and if thats not open he still forces it in there...We should have come away with that victory! Im still very disappointed in the suspect play calling.. I truly believe we were out coached~!!!!
ZachTheZip
What I hate the most is that we still had a timeout at the end of the game. Why didn't we use it?
Zipsrifle
Did we ever hit their QB in the backfield? Will CJ11 ever lead a receiver on a deep pass? Why do we give their receivers a 10 yard cushion? How many INT's did we drop? Was there any question in anyone's mind that CJ11 would throw an INT in the 4th? Are we now teaching the receivers to slap the ball up as we try to catch it? How many times are we going to run the reverse this year and get only 4 yards? Will we win a game at the RB this year?? We still need to just worry about what WE have to do, and go do it.I'm been against him this whole time. He still does the same crap that has gotten him in trouble in previous games. This game I did notice that for the most part he did a -lot- better job of either throwing the ball away or running for it, even if he did look awkward as hell.I've taken a look at the rest of the schedules. I believe very firmly that we can win at least 3 more games. That makes us bowl eligible. I for one won't consider it a huge loss if we don't win the MAC East. We were picked dead last. Second place isn't so bad and going .500 as we go into the Info isn't such a bad note. The fact that we won 3 games already got so many peoples' hopes up. But as I have said a number of times, those 3 wins came over some of the worst teams in football. If we didn't beat them, then we should have definitely called for JD's head. But we won. JD is doing better than expected. Give the guy a little bit of credit. Now for what remains. I still think we can win 3 more games. However, I can still see us going win-less at home. EMU and Temple are games that we MUST win. After that we MUST steal one from UT, UB, or OU (I think Toledo is our best bet). Buffalo and Ohio look tough. If we can steal one more game, I think that puts us at a lock for a bowl, but that is a bit of a stretch for a wacky MAC team. As for the rest of the MAC East, I looked over their schedules and I honestly believe that BG, UB, and OU have a very good chance of finishing out the season at 4-4 in the MAC. That leaves us in a 4 way tie (as we have already seen in 2005, this can and does happen). What will make the difference is who looses to whom. They only thing that really scares me in the East is Buffalo. They have been playing very well and I really don't know a damn thing about them. They can be the biggest surprise in the East this year. They lead the East in both points per game and passing yards per game and gave Western Michigan a run for their money tonight. But then again the MAC is damn near impossible to predict. Akron could finally find that killer instinct and put away the rest of the teams on the schedule. They have the talent do to it. It is only a matter of the whole process coming together, coaches and players, to make the right calls and execute them properly.
Valpo Zip
We've had three wins this year and all of them are against teams that have been in the ESPN bottom 10 list or that waiting list. What does that say about us?For future years, we need to schedule at least 6 games against bottom 10 teams per season and then pet ourselves on the back because, you know, we're bowl eligible. GP1
Another thing is: GET ROGERS IN THERE! CJ just doesn't quite have the composure to play a whole game. Yes, I know lots of catchable balls were dropped, but try taking something off of those throws CJ!What have you seen in Rogers that makes you think he would be any better? That goes for everyone else who is calling for him as well. I'm not here to defend Jacq....I 'm just here to protect the Zips against the Browns fan mentality of NE Ohio. The Zips will be 4-4 after next week and only have to win two of the remaining four to be bowl eligible and you guys want to start an experiment like this is some sort of science project or something. This is D-1A freaking football, not a Friday night watching St. V-M play (insert team here). Let's not deploy the same logic that has turned the Browns into what they are today. Look at tosu, they listened to their fans (mostly Browns and Bengals fans) and changed QBs and now they can't score an offensive TD against a 2-4 Purdue. Pryor is simply not ready to play yet. Do any of you think that will work against PSU?If the balls are catchable, why does he have to take anything off the speed of the throw? It would seem to me that if a ball is catchable and the guy misses it, we should be calling for a new receiver in lieu of a new QB because a bad receiver is bad regardless of whether Jacq or Rogers is the QB.If Akron can score 34+ points per game for the remainder of the season, the can win three more games. OU, Temple, Eastern (I saw then on TV yesterday and they are horrible and Akron WILL win next week and be 4-4 with 4 remaining) and maybe Toledo can't keep up with that scoring pace. My prediction was they would only win five and I will stick by it, but six is not out of the question. With the way the MAC is this year, winning the remainder of the games is not out of the question, but neither is losing the remainder of the games.
