my highlight of the night was him running/trucking full speed at an Urbana player in the corner and screaming and flailing his arms while doing so. The Urbana player just heaved the ball out of bounds when he saw steve running at him. I mean this wasnt a decent attempt at a pass or even a shot, it was just a straight "throw it away and run away from the monster coming at me" kind of play.

I'm just glad to see that Steve is getting some game action. I hope he really comes along. He's a super nice kid.

LOVE the hustle! Not a second on the court where he wasn't totally into the game. Would definitely change MY shot if I saw him coming at me!LOVE the enthusiasm! Reminded me of a puppy dog ... happier than heck to be out there playing and so much so that I thought he was going to wet the floor a time or two! The bench totally lost it when Steve dunked, raised his arms and yelled as if Akron had just won the NCAA tourney!Enjoyed the post-game interview even if he may have taken Frenchy and Dunn's questions a little too seriously. I'm sure he'll relax and lighten up as time goes on. Great to have you here Steve and we're happy you had the chance to show us your potential. Keep working hard big guy!

Lots of credit to KD for not throwing a totally inexperienced Swiech in against Pitt, but giving him a chance to start building his confidence against a greatly outgunned Urbana. Once he starts feeling comfortable playing against weaker opponents, that's the time to start increasing the challenge by playing him against stronger ones. Then it just becomes a matter of how he grows with the increasingly tougher challenges.

When he was in the game, it changed how the game was played. He was able to create an inside-out offense, which is something they haven't been able to do this year because JWood graduated. He's the tough guy under the hoop that this team needs, especially since the guards aren't shooting well.

Funny that this thread began after nbs95 swore off the Zips. He is to Sweich's PT what the "Opponent Look-alike Thread" is to the Zips football team.

uakronkid....great point.We virtually have nobody right now who is a good enough threat to score in the post to create the good inside-out play that we'll need to succeed in conference play on the offensive end.

I thought the big fella looked pretty good out there. Just think Rob Preston every time you see Sweich on the floor. Preston was a total bust untill KD took over and coached him up a little. By the time he was senior, he was a contributor. Give Steve some time.

Maybe we can use this thread to all agree on the spelling of his last name.If you Google "Steve Sweich" and "Steve Swiech", you get about an equal number of hits. Even when you focus on the hits that you think would be most authoritative, you see it spelled both ways.My eyesight isn't what it used to be, but at the Urbana game it looked like it was spelled Swiech on the back of his uniform. So that's the way I'm going to spell it unless someone comes up with a copy of his birth certificate that shows it spelled differently.

I understood how you felt right away, nbs95. It's no biggie to me. I've said/written plenty in the heat of the moment that, in retrospect, was short-sighted. After all, fan isn't short for "fanatic" for nothing. I hope Steve keeps working hard. I'm sure good things will happen for him if he does. BTW, I hope your feeling better too.

Sports = frustration ;)I think that everyone now understands why there was frustration expressed about Swiech not getting on the floor. Everyone now knows that he does have potential. We just don't know exactly how much potential he has or how far he will develop with experience. Judging by the Urbana game, he has the potential to do some things better than anyone else on the team. It will be fun to watch him develop, especially when playing man-to-man in the paint against an opposing player of his size and weight.
