Captain Kangaroo
Many people don't have the opportunity to catch the show. I'd appreciate it if people could place any thoughts on the show content and how the "question & answer" segment played out in this thread. Hilltopper
They asked KD every question. He answered them all. Things don't look good for Sweich.

I felt he was pretty blunt about it. So based on who has played when the games count, he is behind a couple of walk ons.
hoops47
That a shame to hear. about Steve. Well at least he will get good education for free.
johnnyzip84
For all of you in Nikola's Fan Club out there (count me in BTW), KD did discuss Nik's playing time some. He mentioned the staff was concerned that, earlier in the season, Nik's emotions on the floor were getting in the way of what they wanted him to do. He seemed to indicate that they have been working with him on this and that his PT would increase as the emotions remain under control. It's a catch 22 to me. I think one reason why Nik is so aggressive out there (something we obviously need) is because he's an emotional kid. Let's hope they (Nik and the coaches) can work towards a "happy median" on this. I was not able to listen, but would still be interested in listening to some kind of podcast.Sounds like I need to start working on the Nik Fan Club name and graphic.PS One of my favorite things about KD is the way he answer's questions. I really appreciate his honesty.

My read on the answer, bolstered by being at a couple of practices is different than Hilltopper's.What Keith said was "Steve's a good kid .. has a great attitude (answering part of the question). He's working hard in practice, does what we're asking .. but I have to put my best team on the floor .. and right now .. that doesn't include Steve."I really don't think he inferred anything more than the current state of things .. and from asking him at a practice .. it's things that Steve is working through that will get him on the floor. Let's try not to put finality on a guy who hasn't cracked the lineup in the first 15 games of a 100+ game career. My take ..Go Zips!

I'm not ready to say he is a bust and I don't think KD is either. But the people on the board who are clamoring for more PT for Steve need to hear it from the coach. The coach says he is not ready for more PT and we should accept that.

hoops47
Thanks ZW for clearing that up as well. I would hate to see a player be written off. These kids want to play. please keep in mind that the players, do read this board. A comment from here could be very hurtful.
skip-zip
Concerning Sweich....Sure, what KD said is not writing him off, but considering the youth of all of the players who are getting the playing time, I am sure we can probably make the assumption that we won't have a chance of seeing him as much as we'd like until later in his career. It at least would put a damper on this season, it appears. And that's not what many of us wanted to hear. This is some of what I talk about when I see people getting too excited, too early, about recruits. I know there were a lot of people on here who talked about our fortunes this year with posts that included a phrase in them that read something like ".....and we'll have Sweich in the middle in 2008-09......". You just never know if or when a recruit is going to turn into someone who can help your team win games.
Z.I.P.
It's good to know Swiech won't be the next Brian Wood, at least. Check it out: http://news.politicswest.com/devlin/ci_11132984
Dave in Green
I don't recall anyone on this forum predicting before the start of the season that Conyers would have such a turnaround from where he finished with the team last year. As KD has said in the past, players get in his doghouse by not playing up to their potential. But KD has also said he doesn't give up on players, and gives them opportunities to get out of the doghouse by demonstrating that they are improving, and can be expected to help the team win games when inserted in the lineup. There's no predicting whether Swiech or Cvetinovic could become the next Conyers.
Captain Kangaroo
There's no predicting whether Swiech or Cvetinovic could become the next Conyers.Sweich...beats me. Who knows if or when it will click for him?Cventinovic? If he's "the next Conyers" I'll be sorely disappointed. Conyers is averaging 4.5points and 4.2 rebounds per game in his 4th year on campus (3rd on the court). I expect Cventinovic will be doing that in a couple weeks, if he can get Conyer's equivalent 18min/g.Is Conyers' performance a step up from his freshman or sophomore seasons? Sure. But 4.5 / 4.2...well let's just say he still has room to improve. Tonight would be a good time to start. BG has some bangers in the paint and we're going to need someone to crash the boards. Dr Z
Cventinovic is too talented not to see the floor. It's hard to bench production.Nik is an intelligent kid, and to me, it shows when he touches the ball. I hope I'm not jinxing the kid by typing all of this praise from a handful of hours that I've seen him play.I'm still waiting for Conyers to impress me. I can only judge by what I see at the games live.He always seems like he is out there thinking. Like he doesn't know what to do. Maybe it willclick for him soon (we all hope). Dave in Green
Of course Conyers has room to improve. Who on the team doesn't? But he went from riding the bench at the end of last season to earning a starting position this year. He plays tough defense, and is near the top of the team in several individual stats:#2 in field goal percentage (of players averaging more than 10 minutes per game)#2 in total rebounds (#1 in rebounds per minute played)#2 (tied) in steals #3 in blocks (#2 in blocks per minute played)
zipboy
End of the game right now the only 2 guys I feel comfortable with on the floor are Linhart and Conyers. They may not win it, but they won't hurt you.
RACER
next two games are big for the zips. Can't is in a downward spin.if the zips can win the next two we will be in good shape.they then play alott of west divison teams.there is no reason akron cannot win these west conference games.hopefully we at least come out with the splt of the next two though.zips cannot afford to lose both of them. Captain Kangaroo
End of the game right now the only 2 guys I feel comfortable with on the floor are Linhart and Conyers. They may not win it, but they won't hurt you.I think in the 10 years of participating on the various interations of our board, this is the first time I've ever disagreed with you? I must finally be wrong about something? Conyers, IMO, has regressed a little since his ok start to the season. His 1-2-2 stat line vs Buffalo was indicative of his overall play. Even his saving grace...the lock down D...was missing last Wednesday. He's the guy that got beat on the back door allowing Buffalo to go ahead at game's end. Unless Conyers was sick last night, I'll guess the coaching staff saw the same thing. Hence his minutes dropped to 5 vs. BG and he was absent from the starting line up. KD also made mention that "some" players may have started taking their minutes for granted, and he mixed up the line up to let everyone know "there's no free lunch"...keep working, or someone else will be happy to take the PT.If we have a lead at game's end, I'll take my chance with Conyers, I guess. If I'm behind, Conyers can't be in the game. Roberts, Linhart, C McKnight, Humpty and B McKnight would be my preferred 5. Mc Nees would be my 6th. Cventinovic my 7th. Then I'd ask Romeo Crennel to flip a coin to see if Bardo or Conyers was next.
Hilltopper
I get the feeling that Conyers is really emotionally fragile. It seems that when things start going downhill he just shuts down instead of turning it up a notch. KD keeps talking about how this team doesn't have the belief system that previous squads have possesed. I wonder who is the leader on the floor for this years team. The team played about as crisp as I have seen with Jimmy getting all of 5 minutes. It may be hard for him to get those minutes back.
