I heard something about Moorehead and UConn back at the beginning of January when I heard about Bill Bleil's imminent departure, but I didn't want to post it because he didn't have the job yet and making a statement like that could have a negative effect on recruiting, if a recruit hears his recruiting coach is on his way out the door while he's still on staff trying to convince a kid to come to Akron. Is it official now HulaZip?
Lee Adams
uconn?...guess he didn't want to stay here very badly...not like thats the upper echelon...better than here...but he must see 'the writing on the wall'

zipboy
I wish him well. I hope that we don't lose any recruits given his departure. Losing Biel and now Moorehead, 2 of our more tenured guys on the offensive side of the ball. Does JD go back to calling plays next year?I read an article where the osu top coordinator (probably tops for most coordinators in the country) makes 275K a year, about the same as JD and much less than the top 4 or 5 coaches in the MAC who are pulling in north of 350K. The other assistants ranged from 160K to 250K. I am sure they get other perks but not nearly as much of a difference as the head coach. Akron's top assistants are around the 90-100K mark from what I rememeber.

GP1
uconn?...guess he didn't want to stay here very badly...not like thats the upper echelon...better than here...but he must see 'the writing on the wall'Why would any young, ambitious coach want to coach in the MAC as an assistant for very long? It is a 1-AA conference masquerading as a 1-A conference. Of course UCONN is a better place. Staying at a MAC school too long for an assistant or head coach shows a complete lack of ambition. Schools are looking for ambition and not same old same old.If the "writing on the wall" says, "come to UCONN and more than double your salary so you can better support your young wife and family", then I really don't blame him for leaving. This guy has taken Jacq from a trainwreck to a somewhat competent QB who could have a really good year next season. Who would have thought after 2007? My feeling is the guy is probably a really good coach coaching in the wrong system for him.

I would have to assume that a promotion from within is the most likely solution, given this point in the year. I'm thinking that Brian Callahan will have the best chance of getting it. Perhaps he will also maintain his position as offensive line coach and JD could select someone else (is Getsy too young/inexperienced?) to handle QB's. ZachTheZip
Moorhead was both the OC and the QB coach. I would expect to see those two positions filled by a different person for each one.Getsy might be a little young to be the QB coach, but you can't deny that the QB play has vastly improved since he came back. I really doubt Mike Shanahan would take a job that pays what UA can afford, but there's no harm in asking him.The real problem that could arise would be Moorhead's recruits leaving, although it might not be a problem if it opens up space for some of the more highly rated recruits we're going after. Dr Z
I thought about the Shanahan / JD connection the other way.Shanahan comes back to the NFL next year, most of his ex staff will be hired somewhere else. Will he give JD an interview for OC or WR coach? Is JD happy in college? Just a thought.
InTheZone
Getsy might be a little young to be the QB coach, but you can't deny that the QB play has vastly improved since he came back.Getsy has been long gone since Christmas. He's the offensive coordinator at D2 West Virginia Wesleyan.http://www.wvwc.edu/athletics/sports/football/coach.asp

I would interview John Gruden too.

Although come to think of it, I'll bet Dave Snowball wasn't too much older when he became Owen's 1st DC at Akron.Given the opportunity, would Luke consider coming back here to coach QB's? More money (I assume, here at UA) vs. more responsibliity.....tough to say what might be more important to him at this stage in his coaching career.
