infofan
I understand Dwight Smith has been released by the lowly Detroit Lions. If he cant stick around for his hometown team hes probably finished. But he had a great several years in NFL! For Minn, New O, and especially Tampa Bay. Where I still think he deserved MVP in their Super Bowl game- 2 int's for TD. And we all remember his time here. Wouldnt it be great if more of these guys ( like Alleman, Frye) would actually come back for a game now and then??

It wouldn't shock me to see Dwight end up somewhere else in 2009. He still has another year or two left in him...if he can stay out of trouble.Frye and Alleman came to a game last season. I got a picture of my son with Charlie. Alleman was having a big tailgate with a bunch of other former players.
Dr Z
Didn't Mr Tomlin coach him at one time? Hmmmmmm
Zippysgotagun
Dwight cost me $100 when he returned his second int in that SB for a meaningless touchdown. I had the winning numbers on the board until his score changed it Seriously though, it's good to see Zips have successful NFL careers. Congrats, Dwight. Hopefully you're not done yet, but if you are, kudos on a good career.
Lee Adams
one of the 5 best athletes i have seen play at Akron...has to be #1 or#2 best corner at least...maybe victor green is there with him...
Big Zip
With all due respect to Victor Green -- Dwight Smith was the best defensive back this school has ever had. The game he played at Can't (I think his senior year) to single handedly win that game was one of the most impressive games I've seen by a a Zips player ever. GP1
Didn't Mr Tomlin coach him at one time? HmmmmmmInteresting thought. Smith is a 4-3 cover 2 guy who might not fit in at Pittsburgh. Smith will contribute next year somewhere, but he may not be a good fit for the Steelers. Could someone please check to see if DomHix is a free agent this year? If I had to decide between Smith or Hix on the Steelers, Hix would be an immediate improvement over Nate Washington. Washington is a free agent this year and they could easily replace him. With an aging Ward and Sweed who seems to have forgotten that part of his job description is catching the football, Hix would be a great fit next year and in the future. The best Hix will ever be is a #2 receiver and he could fit that bill for a long time in Pittsburgh. The more I think about it, the more I like the idea if he is indeed a free agent. He would also be a great kick returner which the Steelers really need to improve upon.
