While I'm disappointed to not have Miami again (couldn't we have NOT played someone else from the East this time?), the non-conference schedule (which we already knew) is very good, Penn State, Syracuse and Indiana is terrific, no problem with Morgan State as a 1-AA, just wish it wasn't the Info opener. Only one home game in all of October sucks, but at least we only have two away games against East competition - not looking forward to a trip to Mt. Pleasant, though. Overall, I think it's a pretty reasonable schedule (but we need to kick Temple out to stop this bizarre division scheduling).

I really like this schedule. Friday games are MUCH better than Wednesday games, so I am pleased. Especially because I don't have class on Fridays this fall :DI cant really complain about this schedule at all. Best schedule we've had in the last 3 years, IMO

Compared to the overall suckitude of the last few schedules I will take this one. We play an equal number of home and road games, we don't play any mid-week games (I don't consider Friday nights to be mid-week games as fans won't have to get up the next morning for work the way you do a Wed. or Thur. game) and our bye comes at a pretty nice point in the year. I'm not thrilled with Morgan State being on there, particularly to open the Info., but I guess it will have to do. Really, in terms of fan support is there that much difference between Morgan State and North Texas??? We should be able to win at least 8 games with this schedule. I also love that we have three of our first five at home, although that Buffalo, Syracuse, NIU back to back to back road trip looks a little daunting.

Looks like a pretty nice schedule to me. Seems very fitting of where the team is at. Also, it gives students like myself no excuse not to show up in hoards for the home games and cheer their brains throats out...lets keep the advantage over Can't students

It is actually OK for this year. My bigger concern is, as a 1st year season ticket holder that wants to continue being a season ticket holder, that I want at least 4 Saturday home games. They did it this year, but with 3 straight Fridays it doesn't seem that they are taking my advice (big surprise!!). Why can't the MAC just simply say NO MORE THAN 1 NON-SATURDAY HOME GAME PER TEAM!!!

Because it allows the MAC to get TV time. We aren't getting on TV on Saturday, that's just how it is. Friday, and mid-week games, allow us to get a game or two on ESPN network. That is a big plus for the school. I don't understand why so many people cry about a game behind on the weekday. You have to get up the next morning...ok?...You aren't going to be out there til 1 or 2 am. Im all for whatever gets the school, and this great new stadium, more exposure. Putting every game on Saturday would mean absolutely no national exposure. Which hurts the program.

Buddy, I get that. In my scenario, we get 2 games on National TV (though many don't have ESPNU!!!). And then, hopefully 2 more with MAC Champ and bowl game. Throw in the fact that PSU might be on the main ESPN networks (or Big 10), IU game will be on at the very least Big 10 Net., etc.= plenty of exposure.Andy why do people "cry"? Well, it depends on your situation. I happen to have bought tickets for my family of 4, and it is a heck of a lot tougher to go on a weeknight, especially if it is cold. And, I live 1 hour away. Not to mention, there is nothing better than a college football SATURDAY!!!! There are PLENTY of reasons that weeknights, even Friday nights, suck!!!

Friday night games, like others have mentioned, are just as successful as a Saturday game. The only possible issue with Friday night games is High School football. I could be wrong, but those Fridays are going to be right in the middle of the late-season games and possibly the playoffs, so attendance might go down slightly. That said, Fridays have always shown to be successful for High schools (attendance-wise), so we should fare well with those games.

The more I look at this schedule, the more I kind of like it. I only see one game on there that I can honestly say I expect to lose and that is the opener to Penn State (although I hope we can be more competitive there than we have been in prior visits). Other than that every other game looks winnable with the team we have. I would be kind of disappointed with anything less than 7-8 wins off of this schedule.

The more I think about it, the more I think kicking off the schedule with Morgan State is ingenius.Think of it, thing of the atmosphere...so many students getting their very first impression of Akron football on a game where we really should win big. Indiana isn't going anywhere, they'll get their shot at us and it will be a great time. But getting started with a win builds momentum, and is the smart way to go.

I like this schedule. My only two points of concern are:1. Three road games in a row is difficult for any team.2. Central Michigan on the road....again.Akron will be 1-1 after the first two with a chance to beat a bad Big 10 team in the third game. I'm not scared to play Syracuse on the road next year. I feel good about this schedule. Now the players need to step up their game and start winning.

Given the situation the MAC is faced with TV contracts, this is a VERY good schedule IMHO. The only slight negative is the lack of Miami for the 2nd year in a row. Otherwise, I see lots of positives.1) By pushing Can't towards the latter part of the schedule, we have a great chance of drawing good crowds right up until that game. a) Morgan St. --> Obviously the 1st game will draw, if only for the novelty. B) Indiana --> Chance to beat a "name" school and there should be some Hoosiers to help fill the place. c) Ohio --> A good rivalry has developed here...might be my 2nd choice (besides Can't) for the 1st MAC home game (OU alumni in the area too).2) IF the Zips can "steal" a road win over either CMU or NIU in the 1st three conference games, then I feel like there's no way we aren't competing for the championship down the stretch......a stretch that looks very forgiving on paper.3) Even if the Zips lose the 1st two MAC road games, there will be opportunities to get back in the race.4) The road trips should be sweet! a) Penn St. is the money game that will, at the very least, offer an iconic college football setting for UA to measure themselves. And who knows? B) I just might have to plan the long haul to Mt. Pleasant this year. The Zips owe the Chipps. c) A trip to the Anchor Bar is long overdue and will fit in nicely with some Zip payback over Turner Gill and his Bulls. d) Syracuse was a blast last year, and now that I know the Blue Tusk is the place to be it will be even better in 2009. Plus, I can't wait to see the Orange fans' faces after we prove that last year was no fluke. e) Whipping BG's butt at Doyt-Perry could be the fuel we need to explode down the home stretch.5) Sure we have those Friday games, but they are INFINITELY better than a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday game.In summary, the table has been set for a perfect start to the Info Era. I simply can't wait!!! Go Zips!!!!!edit: I didn't know the lower case b followed by an end parentheses resulted in shades

Heck, I wouldn't mind playing all 12 games on Wednesday nights, IF THEY'RE ALL TELEVISED IN HAWAII! :D Now my worthless prediction: Seven and five. I think this is the third consecutive year I've made the same prediction. I'd gladly be short on wins, but I have little faith in Mac's offense. Still, seven wins should make Akron a strong contender in the pathetic MAC East.Speaking of little faith; If they can sell out an opener against Morgan State, then Mack deserves a BCS AD job. I'll believe it when I see it.

I understand getting the exposure being on friday night. However keep in mind that it is northesast ohio and you are in direct competition with high school football on friday nights

People cry about a weekday game because some people need to travel from a long distance to get to the game. I used to have to travel 4 hours to get to Akron. People have limited amounts of vacation time and are forced to burn it because some prick in Cleveland thinks it's more important for the Zips to be on some side screen at BW3 in St Louis. People also have kids and can't tailgate before the game because the kids who have activities during the week. I know, I know, I should just suck it up and buy season tickets and miss the games so those guys totally hammered in St. Louis can spend 3 seconds looking up at the screen and say "What's a Zip?"

This is a schedule that I find hard to like. The opening is great with Morgan State and Indiana at home. But we have only one home game between Indiana on Sept 19 and Can't on Nov 7. How does that build a following? How does that create a football experience at the Info during the best Fall weather of the season? We follow Can't with 3 Friday night games. Not only do we go against the high school games but the weather will get progressively colder and possibly bring more precipitation. Loyalty is not built during lousy weather. I don't know what say we had in this, but I do think that the MAC has screwed things up once again just to get on ESPNU or ESPN360, channels that are carried in 1% of households. Real smart move MAC office! Meanwhile we once again lose a game against Miami, which was a budding rivalry. Another reason to get out of the MAC. I would love going to C-USA. But don't get me started on that rant again. :wall:
